Wow, talk about comments getting out of hand. It's just about a guy that's gone insane thinking he's "Hitler 2.0" and the hammer guys were his Nazi army. His mental conception of of Nazism and the SS are all brought out deeply as his own incarceration for being crazy as he tries to control his emotions, he can't until he explodes and locked up - then I believe the hammers are his way of blame and hide - the hammer is oppression, anger, blame and to want the world to walk on by.

When you unquestioningly accept what the power wielders spout off (in such reasonable tones), then you become their tool, you are their hammer to accomplish _their_ aims, to squash those who oppose their power. It's also a technology: technology is two sided in that gives us power to do more, but it doesn't care whether the end result is for the good of all or for evil. (more)

I think the hammers represent destruction. so in this movie, when ever we see the hammers, something destructive is about to happen (we see the hammers before we see pinks father die, we see the hammers before pinks wall is torn down, and we see the hammers when pink has an hallicination of attacking people.)

I just watched all 10 parts. I own this movie, making this the 20th time I've seen this. I've seen it under the influence and not and have always had the same feelings about this film. This movie proves that war is not the answer. War causes emotional destruction to the survivors, and/or the families associated with these brave combatants. The very end where the kids are cleaning up and pooring out molotov cocktails displays how war will only end through educating our children. PEACE!
