  • squaresoft: great company. Enix: great company. Squareenix: mediocre company.

    How does this even happen?

  • yeah, Square-Enix needs to go back to being Squaresoft...I'm sure they can find a flux capacitor somewhere. Heck, I'll even get an old Delorean for them.

  • its like running into a solid wall of nostalgia, wow.

As i was so young when i played this, i never made it past level 8, yet i must have completed the first 2 or 3 levels 50 or so times, with different teams and crazy setups lol, epic doesnt even begin to define it.

  • Soundtrack reminds me of final fantasy tactics. any relation?

  • @Anthmasta yeah, both games had the same composer, Hitoshi Sakimoto.

He also did the Final Fantasy XII OST ;)

  • @Anthmasta Yasumi Matsuno, the creator of this, was hired by Square to create FFT, along with the same composer.

  • damn great music for 1993. Even way back in the early/mid 90s when I was ten years old I knew the music in this game was great. :)

  • One of my favorite themes at 7:07. It's too bad we didn't see a revival of Wall of Defense in Ogre Battle 64.

  • LIBERATION!

    LUCKY!

  • This.... This is the greatest song EVER. OF ALL TIME!

  • FUCK YEAH

  • What is the song at 1:36? It is awesome!

I have played this game many times (I even own the rare SNES version) and I love it.

But someone please tell me the name of that song! Thanks!

  • one of the best is at 2:14 great vibe and atmosphere

  • 3:12 best track in game, bar-none

  • I had the strategy guide for this game, got all 10 endings and played the shit out of it, I would say this is my favorite game of all time

  • FINALLY this game came to the PAL virtual console. Been waiting for this one for a long time :)

    Awesome music too ^_^

  • Wow -- the original SNES version. But the music seems way off from the Playstation remake -- it almost sounds like the songs were being cycled through, separately from the in-game track. But thanks for putting this up.

  • The SNES had a unique reverbaration crystal that made a lot of very unique sounds and soundtracks which was difficult to then replicate on other systems. I remember early SNES emulators even had a very hard to duplicating it.

  • I never knew that -- thanks. What I was actually referring to, though, was the apparent misplacement of the songs; rather than just a few songs that should have come at various stages, it sounds like every one of the game's tracks was being played throughout the demo.

  • That's just the way this author does his videos, he uses some gameplay as the background instead of a static image.

  • Very good, then; thank you.

  • i found this video because i was searching for a Queen song called "The March of the Black Queen". it came out in the 70s and so did another Queen song called "Ogre Battle"! i'm just wondering if the naming of this game is intentional. it would be weird if it wasn't.

  • lol same thing happend to me. i was searching for a queen song called ogre battle lool

  • The creator of the Ogre Battle series was a huge fan of Queen, hence the name.

  • @brightonrock74 highly doubt that.

  • @do0rkn0b Nope - it's true! Look it up online. :) "Ogre Battle", "Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together)", "The March Of The Black Queen", are all songs by Queen. The Rhyan Sea is based off of another Queen song titled "The Seven Seas of Rhye".

  • @brightonrock74 Don't forget this game is OGRE BATTLE : MARCH OF THE BLACK QUEEN, two musics in one. There is other reference on Let us Cling Together and Person of Lord Caliber... if u search a litle u will find eheheh

  • It is indeed. The makers of the game were huge fans of Queen.

  • I would like to play this game. It sounds exciting like Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis. I would also like to have a collection of games similar to this.

  • Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen was infinitely better than Ogre Battle 64. Ogre Battle 64 seemed like a gimped version of the SNES version (then ported to the PSX). The maps were smaller in OB64 and in general it was just made simpler, I remember the graphics being fuzzy. It also cost no money to deploy your troops.

I remember deploying a unit like the all high knights from the floating continent and it was a beyond sick cost to deploy them but it was all part of the strategy.

  • dude i couldn't get into this one. mainly cuz i sucked at it. shit i traded it in and now i wanna give it another shot. I love the 64 one still though.

  • OB64 looked absolutely gorgeous, but was far too easy. Still a pretty fun game, though.

  • Yeah they definately need to at least put Ogre Battle 64 on the Virtual Console on Wii.

  • I swear man, Square-Enix really needs to create another game in this series.

They own the rights to both Ogre Battle and Lufia, which were created by other companies, and they haven't done a damn thing with either series once they owned it.

  • @ShakinJamacian You really want square to take a shit on this series like it's recently taken a shit on every other thing else that's ever been good? You want your Ogre Battle filled with ATB bars, half of the development money spent on graphics and CG movies, spikey-haired anime cliches, and an angsty main character with amnesia who saves the world from a gender-confused villian who will probably have a great music theme but very little actual character development?

  • @Leishtek Sephiroth has tons of character development. If any game needs bashing, bash FFXIII or FFX. Please!

  • @ShakinJamacian looks like your wish is coming true.

  • @ShakinJamacian True, but Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story were made by the same guys who made Ogre Battle and they're both tremendous games.

FF12 was supposed to be made by them too but executives kept interfering and eventually Yasumi Matsuno had a nervous breakdown halfway through development. Without him in the picture they completely altered the game from how it was originally supposed to be. Quite a shame.

  • The song that starts at 2:13 "old mans prayer" is awesome! anytime Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata Get together for a soundtrack it's bound to be great

  • Defintely one of the better strategy/RPG games out there. One of the few things I remember about this game was when everytime a battle would initiate you would hear the words "fight it out". that was the highlight of my day back then.

  • why everyone named warren has to be great seer or oracle? lol

  • Because it would be almost a sin.

  • that song that starts @ 7:08 rocks soooo hard!!!

  • YES! My favorite song from the series. I couldn't find a remix of it in ogre battle 64 tho :(

  • Certainly one of the best od all time.

  • oh my god... this is one of my favorite games of all time. any chance of getting the Ogre Battle 64 music as well?

  • Sure, one day. It'll be a while still before I start N64 stuff.

  • alright. i look forward to that day. thanks for putting all this music up, btw.

  • nice sweet tunes
