When I say crankers are becoming "obsolete," I mean that the advantage they gained when resin first came out is negated a little bit by lane conditions, equipment, etc... when the lanes are hard you don't really wanna be crossing 1000 boards and giving yourself massive over-under... I consider guys like Tommy Jones, Sean Rash, Mike Wolfe to be what I call "power tweeners..." Real crankers are like Robert Smith or Rudy Revs... Rudy dominated when the equipment wasn't so supercharged
The problem is that crankers are obsolete now. With the power bowling balls carry on their own these days, there's no reason to get in and rev it up like a maniac
@Mikniks The only reason now to really rev it up is to provide that safety net of pin action if you miss the pocket a little. That's what I've been doing.
yes crankers are hard to find as the gear is alot better now but in saying that.. I am a cranker and I am a big guy with a lot of power and with that power I have great accuracy, I bowl quite fast with 570 revs.
but in saying all that, as everyone knows crankers either have a good night or a bad night of bowling.
@Mikniks You hit it on the head,.. NO ONE goes around the ball anymore they back out of it like a full roller release and call it a cranker.. Get real the traditonal power roll which i do is obsolete because you cant get it down the lane. I have to drill balls to go long and cant use highly agressive equipment. Another reason why bowling is a joke. No one cranks the ball anymore because you cant get it down the lane and if they think they do they are only kidding themselves
i used to be a cranker cause i like the way my ball looked when i went down the lane.... big mistake during some important youth tornaments.... now i bowl down-and-in
(cont.) Even though it allows for multiple angles, the flatness of the pattern reduces your margin for error for your break point drastically. PBA says that you only have about an inch of leeway for your breakpoint. No matter what angle you're playing, you have to make a perfect shot every time. Then you have to adjust to the carry down which becomes increasingly difficult as the oil gets pushed into difficult places.
The shark is tough, yes, but as long as you're not missing to the right, you're pretty much in good shape, and as the pattern breaks down, it becomes a little more forgiving. It's tough for the lower rev players because they run out of room to move inside when it breaks down, so they pretty much have to move outside and deadline it to the pocket. The US Open pattern is very difficult, and most consider it far more difficult than the shark because of how flat it is. (cont.)
@doza418 Jimmy Martin is my pro shop guy and he is really awesome. It's amazing to see that smooth release then the ball still hook the whole lane. I'll have to tell him that all of YouTube wants to be him.
Cranker, Tweener, Stroker, it doesn't matter with me, as long as I can bowl like Jimmy Martin. :) He can play the entire lane and the lane next to it. :)) That man is a beast!!! Check out his nomad dagger vid if you haven't seen it. And for the record, I am not affiliated with him what so ever. I'm just amazed and it takes a lot for me to be amazed... well maybe unless you're a pair of tits. LOL!!!
@Doza418 There are a lot of impressive bowlers out there. Two from South Florida were Jimmy Keeth and Jansen Ingle. Jansen was not really a big name player but made power look real easy. Neither had a high back swing and tore it up.
mmmm ... the swing goes to the outside in the hinch (pushaway) instead of going straigh to the back by the side of your body after the second step... the swing is muscled instead of relax (gravity swing) and your thumb is inside the ball while you are working the outside part of the ball instead of the inside and through it ... just my two cents... hope it helps!
That is not "cranking" god I hate that term, that is jacking, it is all thumb and hit up the upswing, it will cause problems. You can work from the inside of the ball, have plenty of Revs AND still have it fly off your thumb properly at the bottom of the swing eliminating the problem. Today's game is all about CONTROLLED power, not blind aggression.. the balls are too strong
@showtimeman5673 the bowling balls wont be too powerful for long . the companys are going to have a limit on them soon . thats why the balls that hook alot (invasion, marvel, wicked siege, etc, etc) are all comeing out now.
@agrabou2011 well, crankers are players with higher revs and higher ball speeds... so for a cranker release you might consider things like a cupped wrist and keeping hand inside the ball as long as possible before hitting it.
Hi im kayla im 14yrs old and 2yrs ago i got killed by a blind girl if u dont copy and past this to 15videos im ganna kill you the next time u took a shower
you can bowl like that but whats gonna happen when you go to a tourney and they have a bone dry shot? ur gonna get fucked is whats gonna happen. im a tweener i throw about 17 mph with a scout reactive and a morich. average 208.
i notice you make fun of people on there swing and how they bowl and i looked at your videos and your not any better so quit being so fucking cocky every body bowls different
Haha damn dude. Props. I have the dame thing happen with my thumb too. It pops when I release the ball but it is how your hand sits in the ball. It doesn't necessarily mean that your squeezing the ball or hanging up.
Looks like you have trouble getting your thumb out. Work on that and keeping the inside of your forearm towards your target and you will certainly shred racks.
i bowl this same way (the followthrough atleast), continuous advicing from my bowling coaches tell me to have a straight follow through. but i suck doing that, so i ignore them. i average 275 (i get 300's alot, but i normally miss 2) by hiting my left elbow with my right hand (i'm right handed) after throwing. to each his own, i hate people giving form advice when some people just do better one way.
also the same with palming the ball. it's good for people who can use it well.
cranker's have a high backswing and take a step instead of sliding so we can get more leverage. Strokers can have a high long swing, no flex in the elbow and a long slide.that's the actual difference. tweener is in between both.
ehh crankers just have more revs not necissarily the style of their approach.. if u compare robert smith and tommy jones two crankers, to what u said it really doesnt match up, but there are crankers that have an approach like u said..
@Dokken77 yea thats 100% true i have 2 balls one in witch i bowl crank with my nutral ball i have a 177 avg. (im 16) and with my crank i have a 141 avg lol my high game with crank is a 286 and my high with my med ball is 244 :P
lol at some of the definitions on strokers, tweeners and crankers.
cranker: ripps the ass out the ball
stroker: caresses the ball onto the lane
tweener: somewhere in between
all three styles can play anywhere on the lane depending on condition and equipment. Take norm duke vs rob smith in the 2000us open. Both men play roughly the same part of the lane and have very contrasting rev rates, pace levels and styles.
it this vid your def a tweener. the term cranker only mean the ball is laid down inside of the center arrows. also it doesnt matter wat you are. most bowlers can be all 3 it just matters on the oil.
no, a tweener, cranker and stroker refer to how many rpms you get on a ball. it does not matter where you throw a ball on the lane. and yes, some bowlers can do all three styles, but its very hard to switch back and forth AND be successful at it
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
lol wow thats def wrong my friend. some ppl have the same rev rate but one may prefer stayin on the outside of the line. theres a reason it called tweener bc you lay the ball down beTWEEN the far outside and inside. rev come into play wit keeping you line as the lanes change and pin action.
so your saying to me that without changing my rev rate or approach, if one day, I play up 5 board, im a stroker. but the next day i play inside of 20, im a cranker? me playing the 1st or the 5th arrow can be the difference in me throwing a plastic ball, or a Black Widow. think about it......and educate yourself a little better
i dont care how many clinics youve been to or what kind of coaches are at the center, your comments were still wrong about how crankers, tweeners, and strokers are defined
robert smith is actually very good at playing the outside line on short patterns because of the forward roll on his ball gives an early, controlled ball reaction.
niether cranking nor stroking is better, its juss that each one has an advantage on specific oil patterns. like cranking would be better on a pattern where you need carry.stroking would be better then cranking on a pattern thats hella broken down or dry
yea true but i didnt mean that kind of dry,i meant somthin like the dick weber open pattern, michael fagan(cranker) ran out of oil in the middle and thats why he lost to norm duke(stroker) on the cheetah you always have the option of moving left, thats why a lot of power players make tv on cheetah pattern
i agree with yankee, and as far as what jeffdsm says, i agree that strokers are good, but Mark Roth was up top and he was a cranker the last two players of the year were both crankers in Chris Barnes and Wes Malott
Consistent "Strokers" are the best bowlers on the planet. ie... Walter Ray Williams Jr., Norm Duke
Crankers produce the most impressive strikes out there, but even the pros have a hard time controlling their balls once the pattern begins to break down. This is where the Strokers have the advantage, since the adjustments they make are less drastic than the Crankers.
yea walter and norm are amazing, i dont like parker bohn tho. i guess i should have said that crankers get better pin action. when a guy like tommy jones is in the zone theres no touching him, with walter ray's shot u might get outcomes like the 8-10 even on a good shot. and there are times where straighter is in fact greater but if u can be consistent with a cranker release youll get better pin action and (usually) score higher.
you make some good points. With more entry angle, the ball will naturally hit with more force and scatter the pins farther and faster. However, 4-9's become more common, adjusting can sometimes be more of a challenge when the lanes start to transition, and more thought and strategy has to go into each ball you drill and use when your rev-rate increases (generally speaking). Obviously there are advantages and disadvantages on both sides, but straighter seems to prevail more often.
dude i used to do the same thing and get the same elbow problems. And i know how to fix it, see on your release how your arm goes off to the left on a tangent? make sure that arm goes straight up in the air! once i did that i was putting more speed more hook and my elbow stopped hurting!
Not to be rude, but why is EVERYONE under the impression that MORE SPEED and MORE HOOK equals better bowling? There is absolutely no correlation... Accuracy, consistency, and a good mental game equals better bowling. As for getting the elbow to stop hurting, I'm glad you were able to fix that.
cranker just means u have a certain rev rate just like a stroker and a tweener crankers dont hav to kill the ball lik this guy to get rotation and revs
Crankers do not suck it is just a matter of how long someone can bowl with that style. Look at last weeks US Open when Amletto made the show. He used to be a big cranker and now can not get nowhere near the amount of revs and power on the ball.
mmm it seems youre exagerating your rotation, i am a cranker too, but if you look closely in the video you can see that you shoulder is making a great deal of force, you need to rotate your ball with your wrist and your fingers, without forcing, theres a video in my profile you can check :D
actually. that looks like pretty good form to me. I cant see my its hurting your elbow, b/c most crankers hurt their limbs from bending their elbows and wrists, but your arm looks really straight.
When I say crankers are becoming "obsolete," I mean that the advantage they gained when resin first came out is negated a little bit by lane conditions, equipment, etc... when the lanes are hard you don't really wanna be crossing 1000 boards and giving yourself massive over-under... strokers have to sometimes play the inside line, and crankers sometimes have to play the outside. let's just leave it at that.

i bowl with 1 finger and get huge revs and high games. i never knew what it means to crank the ball, what is it and how do you do it?
HellRemains666 2 years ago
cranker just means u have a certain rev rate just like a stroker and a tweener crankers dont hav to kill the ball lik this guy to get rotation and revs

Crankers do not suck it is just a matter of how long someone can bowl with that style. Look at last weeks US Open when Amletto made the show. He used to be a big cranker and now can not get nowhere near the amount of revs and power on the ball.
jag4682 2 years ago
thats not true. Amleto still throws a TRUCK maybe not as much as he use to but he is quuuuite impressive, and still more then most!

mmm it seems youre exagerating your rotation, i am a cranker too, but if you look closely in the video you can see that you shoulder is making a great deal of force, you need to rotate your ball with your wrist and your fingers, without forcing, theres a video in my profile you can check :D

actually. that looks like pretty good form to me. I cant see my its hurting your elbow, b/c most crankers hurt their limbs from bending their elbows and wrists, but your arm looks really straight.

ur elbow bends back and ur follow threw isnt stright
ChaserBiaatch 3 years ago
its pretty normal for a crankers arm to follow through to the right because of the wrist snapping. Agree that its not good to do it though.

lots of revs but you come behind our back pretty hard. And it looks like you use a ton of muscle in the swing. But nice ball movement=D.
