Just spent last week in Berlin and was amazing, but the germans really should improve their english or at least be more friendly, loads of very harsh germans refuse to talk to u if u can only speak english...I was trying to buy one curry wrust and the leady treated me so bad that i almost didnt get it.....

@jujubagirl You should at least try to learn some German. Really, what do you think a typical American would do if a German came up to them in their store and insisted on speaking German? I doubt most Americans speak German... although they should. :) Anyway, give them some credit. It is Germany after all, they should be able to speak German there.

@bobett44 I agree about learning the minimum german like "excuse-me" "can you help me" "thank you" but the germans were really harsh i went to a nice restaurant in nicolas area near alexanderplatz and there was all decorated for tourists, it was clear everything there was about tourism and when i asked the waiter something about the menu he was clear and loud " only deutsch" it really put me off, name of the restaurant is Kartoffelhauss. Lovely food but poor service...

Where ever Germans and French go in the west they have to speak english to communicate with other europeans or non europeans, they are resentful that others wont maje an effort to speak their language when they are in their own countrys, ut really hurts them alot.

@Zephyesa I understand that, but one thing is being defensive other really different is not being tolerant.... i am from Brazil and live in Ireland my english is not perfect i work with people with poor english and i make big effort to try to communicate with them, same if one chinese citizen come asking me something with a map in their hands, even if i dont understand a word of what they are saying i will look to the map and at least point the direction they should go....

The germans are a very proud people also, and they love their language alot, as do I.

Berlin IS a nice city. I felt at home there. Thank you to those of you who could speak English to me. I only had a teeny bit of Deutsch, mein ein bischen deutsche, or something! Promise I'll be back. Dunno when but I shall return (as foretold in the Bible!). And Berliners seem to have a sense of humour. Why shouldn't they? Thanks for the wonderful video. The facts are so right. You walk and walk but sights never ends. This city offer everything culture, leisure, entertainment, cheap and quality food, it is secure, has excellent free university for higher education and wonderful museums...omg list goes on and on...I love Berlin....:-)
