In my langue durian is called "Sau rieng" or "Tu-ren" I think Tu-ren is original from Campodia but we also use it to refer to durian's name. Not many people know what is "Tu-ren" even some Vietnamese so it's pretty fun when I call durian by that name and people have no clue about it =D

I'm not Asian, but I believe hotels prevent it because they value their white foreign customers more than their locals unfortunately. Imagine a French hotel, not allowing escargot or their funky smelling cheeses to satisfy their non French customers. It's a big double standard.
