This is in standard tuning. Nice trick. David Honeyboy Edwards and Muddy Waters both played some of their E blues in standard with slide. The trick here is muting both behind the slide and with the picking hand: pick blocking commonly used by lap steel and dobro players. I wrote and shot a brief video about this in my article on Robert Johnson's playing for Acoustic Guitar magazine back last November. The first video, Come On In My Kitchen, demonstrates the muting technique well.
