TomTom GO 530 730 930 Lane Advanced Guidance

I am not a fan of the advanced lane guidance and actually turn it off. I'll explain, basically when you have multiple "off" ramps, although it tells you distance to run to the off ramp, it doesn't give you a moving map display to you can visual note how far you are away, and relies on the fact that you can accurately judge EG. 600M/500M etc.. If there is multiple off ramps close together then you don't really know which one it's talking about unless it gives a ramp number. Just my opinion.

Shoppers: TomTom's no longer offer FM transmitting of voice instruction due to laws in Europe they have DISABLED FM Transmitting for the entire world.

Existing Go 730 users: if you perform the necessary firmware update above 8.01 you will LOSE FM transmitting of voice instruction. TomTom has disabled this feature for the entire world. Garmin, took a much more logical approach and only disabled it in Hungary and Poland (the two countries that ban the FM tranmission).

i would think that no one really decides ime getting a tomtom over a garmin bc of the one feature of a fm transmitter

its more of price

and there is really no point of a fm transmitter because there is a loud speaker and if there is a headphone jack

any new car has a ax port

and the cables are like a few dollars

It's right on the box actually:

"FM Transmitting allows you to receive music or voice instructions through your car stereo".

Except no its does not.

Some people care very much about the FM transmitter. For those who could care less, and I don't doubt there are many - everyone should care about a company that lies and falsely advertises. They should also be aware when you perform an update TomTom may remove vital functions without your consent and without disclaming it.

you have to buy a seperate stand/mount with the actul transmitter in it

so its not a outright lie

you just have to pay lots of $ more to get it

Their tricky updates that remove vital functionality has outraged many once loyal TomTom users.

Garmin is by far the better option now.

just because they claim that they have fm transmitter but it got removed doesnt mean its garbage

i think that most ppl care less about if it has a transmitter because it has a good speaker and cars have ax ports now

they care about price, screen size, and mainly how updated the maps are and how logical the routs are

not about a transmitter that is so old

and even if they super wanted that

they could get one designed for the ipod

and just use a head phone jack

Garmin 265wt ~$150-160. The trafic is not accurate. 255w~ 130-140. Tomtom 335se. Costco had for 100$. Basicly same features as 255w, 30$ cheaper.
