Ah memories I remember watching this video in the early 80s with Pat Sharp and Skybox. The song was so good that I just had to buy the album , its a masterpiece. Thank you Bluebells for the memories.
we from the 80's who remember watching the original or hearing it live are extremly thankful for this heritage and we don't complain about quality....hahaha....who was talking about digital recording in the 80's anyway :-)))
a forerunner to Aztec camera...folk roots with a discerning bow to old rock and roll and dare I say a wee nod to the Bay City Rollers too...excellent production very underrated and forgotten lately!
Once in a nightclub, Young at Heart had just been played; I remembered I'm Falling, which I consider to be even better, so I requested it. Would you believe it, the DJ actually refused, saying it was too slow!!!! He should have tried his utmost to fulfil every request!
Sadly, I feel the value of New Wave records in Goldmine is underappreciated; I just got a promo 45 in VG+ condition in a record lot. If this records was promo only, it's quite possible only a few thousand copies of this record were pressed!
I agree Gaffer96, this is a very underrated band, and this is a very underrated song aswell! Shame about the quality of this upload! Doesn't do it any justice!
lead singer now works in a college in Glasgow...very underrated band.....out same time in Glasgow as Simple Minds,Strawberry switchblade,Aztec Camera,Fruits of Passion.great days.
Thanks, I couldnt' agree more...this was taken from an old VHS that was recored in slow mode...so the quality was bad to begin with..just glad it's survived this long!
When I was buying my brand new Golf GTi ('93) it came with a CD single of the Bleubell's "Young at Heart" cause of the German commercial, this song was.... B-Side ;)
Be grateful to hear and watch this rare and unique footage of the Bluebells from early 1984!!! They were a great and classy band,so be fortunate to watch it!!! And stop the moaning about the quality, its 25 years old, you groaning spoilt shit!!! Benja :-)
Got this on 7", with a rather lovely b-side 'H.O.L.L.A.N.D.', great single, from another of those bands that should hae had a bit more recognition.....
Well please let him know how many people still love their music.....the Bluebells were a very talented band without a doubt. Their label London records was the definition of cool back then as well...
i love this song but the sound on this vid is v poor...you've got the conection....so get a us a better quality vid ..Ta Muchly :) send the big man some love xxxx
Pamiętam ten kawałek z Przebojów Dwójki w 1985roku. Wtedy to nagrałem i od tego czasu chyba tylko raz to słyszałem w radiu. W swojej klasie naprawdę niezły numer.
You're posting this from the states?! Oh my...Did you have a compilation cassette tape that had a yellow cover and the tape was see-through and this was on it along with other tunes that were never going to make it to the states? I haven't heard this song since then.
They had a hit over here (UK) with 'Young at Heart' that Bananarama later covered on their 'Deep Sea Skiving' album. Check it out.
Actually, yeah, I saw this in the States, what you are seeing is the first and last time I heard this song or anything else by this band here sadly...I couldn't find their stuff here I'd love to hear an entire album.
@FredericaBimble I had it, and still own the cassette. Bought it new in my junior year of high school (1984-ish). I had the can and paper insert for quite a number of years after buying it but lost track of it over time. I do still have the cassette though. Aztec Camera, The Smiths, China Crisis, King Crimson, The Cure,
Stan and Aber both look like girls.. So does Bobby, and that's saying something. Coolest band in the world for a fleeting moment until the "Fruits of Passion" took their Scottish crown. Davie and Spike were better looking anyhoo and Sharon is my sister. Glen wasn't too easy on the eye and fuck knows who the drummer was.
Hey, you're welcome! This was actually the only thing I've ever seen/heard from this band, they weren't really known here in the States, so sadly, this is all I know...
This record reminds me of my late teens back in 1984. It was a really wonderful record on such a cool label bac then..London Records had some great bands. This song could have fallen from McCartney's pen with no doubt. A tender, uplifting, wistful sing filled with hooks and a killer melody. The Bluebells should have been massive...they really weere that good and made s many overlooked songs.
One of my favourite songs. I had the 12" when it came out at first. I played it all the time. Very hard to find on P2P. Thats why im on here looking for it. My computer speakers dont do it justice. It needs to be played loud.
I had this song on a couple of mixed tapes and it was always one of the good moments when it rolled around to this moment of the cassette, never once did I hit the FF when this came, it's a great song, worth getting a good copy of.
I saw them on Sunday at the Women of Influence awards in Glasgow - god have they aged! Babysat Bobby Bluebell's youngest child a few times. He's erm ... different!! ;o)
i think they were mcluskeys & had something to do with the female group called "strawberry switchblade" ( one hit wonders) but a bloody good song no less.
f#ckn brilliant!!!! any idea just how hard it is to find this song(just the song...no video) on a peer-to-peer network ?? I thank you from the heart of my bottom (or is that the other way round?) thanx mate.
Jsbx5, thanks a lot for posting this song. They were a great Scottish band in the 1980's. Two of their other songs were, Cath and Young At Heart, both as good as this one. They had a brief resurgence in the mid 90's in Britain thanks to a Volkswagon advert featuring Young At Heart
I think theyre the McCluskey Bros ( band in their own right) and Bobby Bluebell who went on to open as owner Glasgows first main `gay` club in the 80`s, `Bennets`. Closed within the last 18mths due to a major fire. P.S. was never in it!! Had Bobby Bluebell in mt taxi a few years ago, same shades less hair though. Think he still has a few bars in Glasgow.
Hey! It's great to see one of my favorite bands showing up on YouTube - I have all the records (and cds) but have never seen the videos since they never made much of a splash in the US. Thanks for posting this.
Wow..hey, you're welcome! How did you hear of them? Honestly, when I recorded this video, it was the first and last I ever heard of them. I'm just glad I held on to the tapes!
I'm from Glasgow and there was a lot of music coming from here during the 80's...
Bronski Beat, Altered Images, H2O, Simple Minds, Fruits of Passion, Wet Wet Wet, Deacon Blue, The Silencers to name but a few. It was a good decade for the locals haha
This song got to #11 in the UK charts in 1984. Their follow up single Young At Heart peaked at #8. In 1993 Young at Heart was re-issued following a a Volkswagen television advertising campaign & this time it went all the way to the top of the UK charts.
