Daaaaamn, this has quite a bit of symbolism here. The mine could represent the mortal plane, or considering the fact that the miners are in a cave in, they could be transcending to the afterlife due to lack of oxygen, and the fat guy fully transcended considering he really got into the dance, and considering at the end in which the skinny guy remembers what happened and comments that the fat guy was having a darn good time, he survived the cave in , while the fat guy did not.

This videoclip -to me at least- is about people waiting to live until they do everything "perfect" and for the right time to come, the time they will be ready. But this right time, never comes so they usually behave as if they gaze their lives through a window or they live a "comme-il-faut", uninteresting life instead of living a real life despite all the mistakes and less than perfect things people do when they are living for real......

Actually, I think the younger man survived (notice the tambourine on the table at the end). The dance hall represents heaven (in color), the girls are angels, the judges are the judges of heaven. The older man dances, is found worthy, and "enters the light". The younger man, who refused to dance and be judged, fades back to black and white, and returns to the mine. Not my theory. Somebody else said this to. I'm just passing it along.
