I remember this song from the 'Shine' compilation i got when i was 12. Do you think nostalgia is perhaps tainted a few opinions here? Calling bands of today shallow by comparison is a bit much for what is basically a novelty single
my son was 2 years old when we watched this on totp, i distinctly remember it, and for ages after i had to sing it to him, even incorporating a "moo"!
Miles Hunt and the brutally underrated Luke Haines of The Auteurs were my two favorite songwriters of the 90's. In a smarter world, these guys would have been megastars. The Wonder Stuff were consistently great and yet many here in the U.S. had never heard of them........The Blue Aeroplanes were another wonderfully literate band. But I digress. These guys rocked and still sound incredible.....
@MartfulBodger I think the reason is because today's bands are influenced by garbage. A lot of today's "punk" bands grew up listening to Green Day, not 50-60's ska or other "roots" music. So, it's kind of incestuous - It's all very self-referential with no knowledge or curiosity about the source material (or at least the really good stuff that came before - Roxy Music, Eno, Bowie, classic blues etc.).
I have to endure this song all day on the bloody T Cup Ride at Longleat where I work! And for that reason I hate it. But I just wanted to check You Tube to see who these guys actually were.
Just Brilliant. 1991 was a fab year 4 me & in July that year had our best family holiday 2 California, LOL my dad had this on the radio in car on way to airport & I was singing 2 it
Mission drive was a decent tune.."Here comes everyone" was over produced and directionless.."38 line poem" was self indulgent, self obsessed pompous bilge"Hup in my opinion was far better but I respect your opinion too..
used to sing this coming home from the pub, we even bought the vinyl singles to put on the pub jukebox, grew our hair and bought acoustic guitars, when a band does that to you they must be good, stuffies forever
I LOVED LOVED LOVED them in high school. I just got the CD when I couldn't find it on iTunes, my tape is buried in storage. One thing tho - is this live?? Cause if it is - holy lipsync!!!
I'm so happy I found this...I had this cassette back in college (yes, a cassette!) and can't find it on iTunes to download. I agree with crowbroke...we ARE old!
lmao...love this band but i bet it's not pretty watchin if you're Miles or Malcolm.... I used think they were cool when i was a kid..but what are they wearing???
Ahh memories....sometimes they bite you in the ass.
Me I'd like to think that life is like a drink and I'm hoping that it tastes like bourbon - YEAH my anthem!!!!
