Hmmmm yes, I'm sure the, 'Pet Shop Boys' would have stuck it to the Nazis. It's not like they had rep for ruthlessly murdering anyone who got in their way....
This was my favourite song when I was 9, and after 10 years hearing it again makes me feel happy. But now with an adult's thinking, and a decent english knowledge, I finally understood the lyrics, which makes me wonder, how could I listen to this music back than.
Far too good for a b-side. Very great track! (I once heard that when they recorded this in the studio, the studio-people thought, that this would be the a-side and not opportunities... okay, "Opportunities" is also a great one, but "In the night" really hits the score!)
SAW THEM PLAY THIS TUNE IN AMSTERDAM PARADISCO !! WHAT A TUNE WHY ONLY A B SIDE !! CAN U TELL I CANT !! IM NOT INTO THIS KINDA MUSIS BUT KNOW A GOOD TUNE WHEN I HEAR IT
The original american DISCO movement was swept away in the very early 80's. Around 1984/1985 the pet shop boys and a few other Euro-Disco artists helped to put the style back on the map...
....although euro-disco / high energy sounds a lot different from the original disco.

@83gilles typical francophobic criticism from blokes, it is so massively idiotic, zazous was a youth subculture phenomena, not a resistance movement, did the goths bomb the parliament of england to stop the falklands war? did the new wave gays organized a coup to topple that sociopathic bitch thatcher? no, they did absolutely nothing. the zazous were protesting the only way they could without being "disappeared" by the gestapo, with fashion statement and enjoying modern music.
@quaxk I'm not either a musician nor a gay guy. But I really think that for perception like yours [New Wave Gays], that consider gay all the new wave music is that PSB an other fantastic music bands or duos are underrated in some parts of the world. At the very beginning of the PSB, no one could certainly tell that Neil was gay, until he openly admitted it.
I remember back in the early days [in da mid-80's] when I played the vinyl 'Disco' version on my brand new Pioneer music system (which I still got & still works...) 'til my ears bled, literally into 'the night'... lol
During the 2nd World War, when Paris was occupied by the Nazis, the "Zazus" were a French juvenile movement, a kind of Hippies. In this song they are a little bit criticized because they didn't make anything against the occupation of their country.
The sentence in French: "Comment allez vous?" means "how do you do", but I think it was introduced just because it is French, it has no special meaning in the context of the song.
brilliant. 3 years after my wife was born. boooooo

PSB's best homage to Italo-Disco for sure. (With a nice Bobby O beat too) Perfectly shows their influences and still sounds great.

@quaxk And as usual there's absolutely no humour or irony in the lyrics of PSB. They´re 100% serious in this song.

Comment allez-vous: it pretty much just means 'how are you?'
