Most of the time they arent blged but are still failing, its best to change large caps if you have any electrical failure. 9 times out of 10 they are the problem
hi sir, my pc dont work. when i turn it on it will turn off in a few seconds.. i removed everything eccept the motherboard, power supply and ram and problem still exist... i test my power supply and its ok and the ram too.do you think its a bad cap? sorry about my english:D
@galeanoandres It really depends, Ive seen some pcs that had just one slightly bulged capacitor and they won't turn on. I've seen some pcs that had alot of bulged leaking capacitors and they work fine, like nothing is wrong. Then I've seen some that had bad capacitors that blue screened or had other unstable problems.
It would have been nice to hear the make of the bad and bulgin capcitors, this way we will stay away. Intel and ASUS seem the good leaders in motherboard technology wiht Intel being with the sly edge. However, I still have an ASUS PT4 that runs well. I make sure I have a good PSU and good ventilation inside the case. Bought the mobo in 2002.
Hey. I have the same mainboard on a computer at work. My problem is that if I enable usb2.0 in bios freezes when i plug my pendrive. Works fine only with usb1.0. I already replaced a capacitor which was swolen but still don't work. Already made bios update. Any ideas? Thanks.
@nickeyman81 i had the same problem. it turned out the case usb port plug that plugs into ur board, was abit faulty, ran USB 2.0 after i unplugged it.
On my Socket 462 one capacitor is leaking from the bottom (has leaked) and it doesnt leak it just does a high pitched noise when theres power but when u turn it on the noise turns off and the board works normally....
nessa@hotmail.rs Like the issue of bad capacitors, I had the opportunity to meet with a 100 motherboard in which 90% comes capacitors, a small number of motherboards such as the older ver. Socket A or Socket 478 hurt her im transistors used for iron stress .... My guess is the first osvemu ovem Capacitors replaced and then look for the problem
just look at the junk caps (light blue OST) they used for CPU VRM output (around the CPU socket).. yuck
as for the 2nd board, its a Gigabyte OEM board plagued by the manufacturing defect on nichicon HM and HN series. affected datecodes: 2002 - late 2004
3rd board is also Gigabyte OEM. The bulging cap is a Rubycon (looks like MBZ series), which probably means it got cooked to death (same as in the Dell GX2x0 SFF hotboxes) as those are very reliable caps
please one of the capacitors for my computer is big and i think it is conflicting with my hard drive it keeps saying i don't have a hard drive. i have tried about 4 hard drives now and no luck and when i try to reinstall windows it doesn't locate my hard drive either anyone know how to fix this without getting a new motherboard please reply.
@khadeem5 I would go into the bios and restore default settings. Its also possible you need to load a driver first before the windows installation will see the hard drive. what model motherboard?
@trufiend138 What brand and model monitor? Anything look burnt on the board? Any darker spots on the board from heat? Look at the solder joints real good and make sure none are broken.
Nice video, better than the other one!..but i got a question for you: is it possible to measure a cap that is still soldered on the board? I`ve tried to measure it but no readings, only when i shorlty touch the contacts it gives some reading but when i touch and hold the contacts it gives no reading, not even after a few secs...thanks in advance!
@suikerblok The only real way to check them in circuit is with an esr meter, but they are real expensive. If you take them out of circuit you can check them with an ohm meter.
great video, I am trying to figure out what is wrong with my pcchips A15G
motherboard. i had a powersurge over ethernet. from my phone line/router/modem.and now my ethernet port and my pci slots dont work. all caps look ok,and the pc still boots and runs windows fine. but my ethernet light stays on all the time.(even without ethernet cable ) any ideas as to whats wrong?
@MechaNintendoMast Yes that Asus board was a high end board at the time. It saw heavy use and probably took a power surge from a bad power supply which caused the bad capacitors.

@jrbadong18 Do you see any bad capacitors?
mjmcomputers 1 month ago
can a capacitor be bad even though it looks ok..
solitary76 2 months ago
@solitary76 yes, but without specially test equipment, you have to remove it from the board to test it.

@mjmcomputers cheers thanks for your reply..i did the caps and put in a new inverter board but the tv is still doing the same thing...nightmare!!!!

@mjmcomputers hi i have posted a video of my tv..if you have any idea what the problem could be it would be great...

I've had 3 that totally puked it's guts out and my computer still works. They are still blown, still running?
vlogsmack 3 months ago
@vlogsmack Yea some computers don't seem to be noticeably affected by the bad capacitors.

Very informative video. I just hope you were wearing an anti static wrist strap when you handled those boards?? I will be checking my caps tomorrow.

I just bought a motherboard with all solid capacitors. How would I know if there's a bad capacitor?
conyo985 1 year ago 2
@conyo985 solid capacitors will bulge at the top when they are bad. I have a video card with bad solid capacitors, will try to make a video of it.

@conyo985 He's just shown you on the video. Look for bulging or leaking capacitors.

@DJPaulgee1
Yeah he already told me. The reason I asked is because in this video he showed electrolytic capacitors whereas my motherboard has solid capacitors.

lol.. asus & server don't mix anyways ;)
