  • ''No Spin!!" and the tires spinning behind him!

  • @church400c I drive a 1984 Ford F-150 with a 300 I6, with over 350,000 miles on it for my winter truck. It still runs like a top, does not burn a lick of oil and is just starting to leak a little oil -- maybe about 1/2 quart a month! Awesome truck! I like a Chevy for the road, but when it come to being dependable, well, you cannot beat an old Ford with a 300 I6, period! My Ford is getting a Spartan locker in the rear, and I am thinking about putting a clutch unit in the front.

  • The Raptor in any version has Electronic locking Front and rear axles as far as I know the F-150 only has rear.

  • @Pawandeep211 only rear unless u buy the $100,000 limited edition raptor

  • @aningloriusjew umm dude i can buy a raptor right now for 42000 where did you get that ridiculous price

  • where do i get this??

  • @church400c and dodge but toyota trans problems? i havent had any but the things not put together very well. had alot of problems with a 07. they go fast... handle nice but ride like crap for a half ton

  • i made my locker, with a 7018 eletrode and a lincon 220 arc welder, yeah there auto too

  • @75corvette055 thats the way to do it haha

  • @75corvette055 Have fun replacing tires every month!

  • @kc8ntp dont be hatin cause your s10 wount turn over both tires lmao

  • @75corvette055 WTF! Actually, guy, I have a Z71 with a 375hp 5.7L. But, I have "real" lockers in the front and rear; not some hillbilly bullshit! I can turn over all 4 without a problem!

  • Ford has an electronic locker which means you have to engage it, i prefer chevys automatic locker so mine will even engage in 2wd if i start slipping i think its all about preference and the g80 is an awesome locker its even more expensive then a detroit

  • @MrRedneck2013 sorry man detroit locker is not the best out GM has the best ones..

ford lockers are knock offs from chevy's lockers and ford's only offer them as an option not standard like GM

  • "No noise"... Ping

  • Why do you need a locker to do that? I've had my Tundra in some pretty nasty conditions and haven't needed a locker. Most offroading is in knowing your vehicle, and knowing how to drive it. You can add $50,000 in accessories to your vehicle and unless you know how to use them and know how to drive they won't help you.

  • @wildbill23c have u ever seen ice? and with out a locker or a limited slip (tundra has limited slip) the tire with less traction will spin while the tire with traction wont get ANY power....

  • that's such a good looking truck, that's even the color i'd get if i were to buy one.

  • chevys rear axle is an auto locker by eaton. both ford and chevy are building the best trucks out there. i saw a 08 4x4 dodge yesterday that the front driveshaft broke off the diff and jammed ontp the roadway destroying tcase and tranny

  • @bobcats330 dodge sucks.

  • rofl great wall trucks are ...... GREAT.

  • okay,

toyota is a good truck but they took ar jobs so fuck em

  • Fuck you.

    Toyota is the best.

  • @johnalmasmith toyota sucks hard core wimp.

  • GM doesnt know what hit them

  • ya the detriot may be better but only on fx4 Chevy has their locker availabe on any truck...it really helps on a wet boat ramp

  • what problem have all trucks, all they say "in this situation tundra will have problem"

i think none truck can caught tundra in real conditions and tundra is the best truck all over the world. sorry....

  • @helenaki8 Tundra is the best truck. LOL! LOL! It has to be about the worst truck on the market. Are you aware of its ancient frame and build an material quality? Drive a Tundra over a speed bump at 20 mph and the cargo box will bounce-off the cab and probably hit you in the head.

  • @helenaki8 your a goof.

  • @helenaki8 yeah thats why last 1/4, ford sold over 140k f150s and toyota sold just over 7k tundras

  • dude our 1992 Ford Explorer Sport has lockers front and rear. they're both 3:73 posi trac axles. everything's stock except the tires. theyre 31x10-50's. as soon as you click the "4x4" button everything locks up. our 1996 F150 has a non-limited slip rear axle, but it locks in when you put it in 4x4. the front's always locked when the hubs are engaged. hell even our old '78 F150 had lockers front and rear. research before yew post.

  • @dant387 Posi isn't considered a Locker, and congrats on owning the only ford explorer and trucks with "lockers" up front from the factory, some extremely rare gems you got there. lol

  • its posi in 2x4 and 4x4 high range, but when you knock it on down to low range the rear end locks up as well as the front. we put manual locking hubs on it too so i reckon that helps

  • @dant387 everything you just named makes no sense? posi is always locked... locking diffs are either locked electrically or manually not both. so?

  • Comment removed

  • Well, it does have a locker but...it does not specify on their site what brand. In a sense, the locker on the f-150 is a manual-electronic locker...because to engage it, you manually pull out on the 4x4 knob to engage it. Also, its only available on the FX4 trim.

  • i read somewhere that the the E-locker is supplied by GKN. It is not a Detroit locker which is supplied by Eaton like the title states.

  • I thought Eaton G80 LD was exclusive to GM. Did they make another designed locker for Ford?

  • Ford has finally put a gut traction aiding diff in their truck, the LS diffs have sucked for quite a while, I know cause I have one. Bet this one only works in 4wd Lo though, any one know for sure?

  • Im pretty sure that it only works in 4lo..

  • it works in 4 hi and low.

  • Limited slip does NOT do the same thing. It slips. Most LS diffs have bad clutches after several years anyway, and you don't know it until you need traction. A full locker is the only way to go.

  • wish my 2001 f150 had the lockers on it!!

  • im glad toyota figured out this concept 10 years ago when they put an electronic locker in a 4runner, im glad ford finally figured it out

  • yea to bad they were to stupid to notice they made good veichle but they made their trucks like crap.

  • i like tht

  • u never know when u will need a locker when 4wheeling... thanks ford...

  • I could do the same thing in my 2008 Toyota Tundra without the Locker. The Tundra's have a Limited Slip differential and will do the same thing. Also how often are you going to drive up onto a car hauler trailer with your truck, hmm NEVER. Try that truck out in the real world.

  • ha look up silverado vs tundra- twist ditch. the tundras limited slip is.. limited

  • lol. thats funny. a limited slip can not in any way do what a locker can. get your head out of your ass. dumb ass unpatriotic son of a bitch. lettin yourself get brainwashed by that jap crap. get a real truck.

  • Wow a locker had one in my 02 gmc great job ford

  • well darn. i guess thats why they are best selling for 31 years. i have an 08 f150 5.4 super crew. best truck ive owned. and dont tell me "its slow" because im not planning on setting any land speed records.

  • my brother and i rented one of the brand new f150 and its amazing! i really loved the comfort and power in these trucks.

  • only time will tell (=

  • Especially in todays market.

  • I do think that putting a locker in trucks is a great idea...it should be standard on all pickups regaurdless of if they are 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. It really helps out in place's like boat ramps where you need the extra traction.

  • Once again where we live it's more likely that you will be goin through a ditch, but it helps out just as much in that situation.

  • Yeah I live in west texas myself. The most part of are terrain is dirt and sand. You' can drive on sand with pretty much anything with just a little bit of knowledge of how to.

  • This is a great truck with all the meaning of the floor...

I think it's the best in its class

Ford's moving in the right direction, despite the current crisis

  • I agree completely with you...Ford is one of the few Trucks that is still it a truck, Its not built to be fast its built to haul and tow which is alot more than I can say for other trucks such as the tundra.

  • I've towed with the 5.4 ford f-150 quite a few times.. the motor is the weakest part of the truck... appears to be the case with the 09 as well.

  • I agree thats why im hopeful that they put the 6.2L into the F-150.

  • And you know the fact of the matter is, Ford impresses me alot more because it not weighs more and has less power...yet is still capable of towing more weight the the Tundra, And that says ALOT about the quailty of the suspension, and the frame.

  • And on that note Toyota is not on the top of the heap anymore with the 5.7L V8 as much as I hate saying this...GM's got them with the 6.2L 402HP V8 and if Ford does indeed slap the their 6.2L into their regular production trucks..not just SVT's...then Ford will be out performing Toyota by a rather large magin. And the 5.4L is by no means a weak engine..Sure its not the fastest...But its 390lb feet of torq is comparable to most other fullsizee trucks. I say the fords the best truck by a long shot

  • Ford is going to have a 6.2L Boss engine to boast soon.

  • Hell ya man...I just hope they Mass Market the 6.2L Boss and not just use it in SVT's like the Raptor and Mustang...Even if they had to tone in down to like an even 400 horses or so..it would still be an amazing engine for the F-150's to have.

  • Ive heard there going to put a different engine into the F150's soon, but I can't rember which one.

  • Ive heard that there will be a 6.2L V8 rated at around 425 horsepower..but im not sure if it will be SVT exclusive or not..hope not..and also the new turbo eco tech Inilne 4's and V6's are suppose to be in with in the next year...they are suppose to make like 270hp for the 4cyl and 350hp for the 6cyl.

  • I doubt there's ever going to be a V4 in the F150.

  • I think the 6'cyl is inteded for F-150's and I heard other rumors that They are going to kill the Ranger in favor of a Midsize Ford F-100 model that would most likely be powerd by the 4,cyl and 6,cyl engines.

  • There used to be a F100, so if that's true they may be reintroducing it.

  • Yeah the F-100's were good trucks I think they quit making the in 1981 sadly. The old F-100s were built off the F-150 chassis and came with anything from the 300CI 6cyl to the 460 V8 very versitale trucks. I think the new ones are going to mainly gas savers.

  • We will have to wait, and see.

  • Yeah. I think they should stick to their roots and make The F-100 the versitale truck. have everything from the 4cyl to the 6.2L V8.

  • Id prefer the 6.2L V8 stay exclusive to the SVT team, maybe a F100 lighting?

  • Yeah a 425 horse Midsize would cerntinly be somthing to see. I have also heard that they are going to revive the 302 and 351 engine series under the boss name...have you heard anything like that?

  • I don't think they would put the Boss name with a 302, but it depends what they do to it.

  • Yeah the boss name is pretty iconic for Ford. I do beleive they had a Boss 289 though in the older mustangs..but im not 100% sure of that...I know for sure of the boss 429 in 1970 mustangs.

  • Ive seen a 429 in a supra. Which is ironic.

  • Lol a 429 Supra seems like somone that would build a Supra wouldnt have intrest in putting American Iron under the hood. But ya never know I guess.

  • At this point I was so enthusiastic about the Raptor I almost called in, and bidded on the one at the Barrett-Jackson Auction. I want the 6.2L V8 so badly!

  • I hear you man. That sounds like its going to be a really good engine. I'm sure if I had the money I would have bidded on the Barrett Jackson truck myself.

  • Im either getting a king ranch, and super charging it or a Raptor with the 6..2L boss.

  • I would like to have eaither an FX4 or Raptor..But I would supercharge them both lol...5.4 or 6.2

  • I have faith in the tuning of the 6.2L Boss, if not I think I maybe able to whip it into shape. It's going to be fun pushing the new hill decent control to it's limits.

  • Oh ya...ive never owned a truck with Hill Decent Control so I would have lots of fun playing with that as well myself

  • I don't personally live in a desert, so i'm hoping it will mud bog decently from the factory.

  • Surely it will a high horsepower engine with grippy tires and a locker..Cant see why it wouldnt do ok in the mud as well.

  • It's going to be awesome either way, but i'm not 16 yet so, it will be a year or so old before I get my license.

  • Ahh well im 20 and im far from having the 40K it's gonna take to get a raptor..so I think for now im going to aim a little lower for somthing like an FX4 but later on I'll try for the raptor.

  • I could just go get a corvette =]

  • Eww not me lol..I never did like Corvettes...Ide take a Shelby Mustang if I had the much money...Or a Ford GT for that matter.

  • I know, my mom had one when she was growing up it was a POS.

  • yeah that sounds about right lol.

  • The only reason the current 2009 F150 is not the best pickup truck in the world is because of the limited 5.4L triton.

  • Persoanally I condisder it the best truck in the world anywase. Its safe, I think it looks good, Its get ok MPG -for a truck- and ontop of all that it tows and hauls the most out of all its competitiors. So it does excatly what trucks are made to do...and it does it very well.

  • That's true, but the engine itself is a bit dated.

  • I agree that the 5.4L is out of date..it had a nice run in the late 90s and early 2000's when it was first introduced to pickups, but it has since been outpreformd by others. I think it is a potent engine though..I think if Ford went with a DOCH instead of a SOCH design and made it 4v's per cylinder instead of 3v's it would be much more competitve.

  • Just if Ford put an optional 6.0+L engine in there Platinum, and King Ranch trucks.

  • I also cant wait ti'll they start putting Deisal's in their halfton trucks...I was really shocked when I heard they were going to delay the deisal engine for the F-150...seems like that would have been very profitable for them seeing as how well their deisal superdutys sell.

  • It may up the towing even more.

  • oh im sure it would...13 or so thousnd pounds or more.

  • Which just widens the gap between Ford, and it's competitors.

  • excatly! you know I remember back in 2001 when I was about 13 or so...I was reading an article on 1 ton trucks in a motor trend magazine and then they were only capable of towing about 14 thousand pounds. The F-150's getting close to that. and then you look at somthing like the Ford F-450 which can tow 24,000lbs and it shows you how far trucks have really come in the last 8 years.

  • Things that are revolutionary today will be old news tomorrow. Technology is really changing everything.

  • Yeah it just makes me wonder.....what will trucks be capable of in the next 8 years.

  • Or month's you never know.

  • You know Im a Ford guy Toyota would prob be my second choice...But its seriously turning me off to toyota products watching people like you comment wikiwikiwildwest...Its not even that you are trash talking Fords thats getting me...you just have this aire of erogance in the way you talk to people, Like you see yourself as someone above everyone else...And as far as the Tundra goes...Ford may be a little behinde in the engine catagory...but the Tundra has an terribly weak frame.

  • so it only has lockers in the back?

  • awe poor baby, dont be mad that a ford F150 has more to offer than any other truck and is best in class. for 2008 even with the gas crunch F-150 was the best selling Vehical in the US.

  • It actually has the weakest optional large V8 in its class. That would mean it has the least to offer in engine category... a pretty important aspect of a vehicle designed to tow heavy weights.

  • Still truck of the year

  • Sweet... and the Tundra won that last year when it was a new model... and the Silverado won it the year before that when it was a new model.

Winning the "Truck of the Year" award (more aptly called new model release of the year) means little to nothing. What you have under the hood is one of the most important aspect of a truck... and the F150 has the worst options in this category.

  • Have you Drove all the trucks in this caterogy? did you do your own Super test? run any down the quater mile? Huh? Numbers are nice but what happens on the road is what really matters.. Fords own

  • Are you suggesting that the F150 does not have the weakest optional larger V-8 in its class?

  • it may, but kinda sad it can still tow more than the competition :]

  • Why test the Toyota,we make it and it's sad.

Give me a tough truck with great MPG

    Kentucky build a different truck..

Toyota looks like a fag truck

Ashland, Kentucky!!!!!! Japan we don't want Your fucking truck, you let us build that piece of shit...Why!!!! we already have real trucks....

Always have, got it. The people that drive them are Japan Americas

  • he said they brought the tundra why don't post the video to see how it did....?

  • About time we put a locker in these trucks! Right on.. Ford baby!

  • The f series trucks are the best selling trucks in the world for what 28 years this year now!! well 27 and lets see if 09 can prove to bring on yet another year to the rain!!!

  • f150 sells 3x better or more then the silverado does. There is a reason gm is about to go out of business. they cant keep up with ford.

  • Too bad this locker is only offered on the model shown, the fx4. GM offers their locking diff. on all models, 2wd or 4wd.

  • My 2007 2WD LS Colorado has this... *yawn*

I can't believe they are trying to make this big news...

  • has anyone bought one of these? I am interested but the reviews are awful.

  • GM trucks have offered this feature for sometime. Im a Ford truck man but have to give GM trucks some credit, if it wasn't a Ford for me it would be a GMC or a Chevrolet. The truth is they are both great companies making great trucks.

  • gm (Gods mistake) does not have this tech. Fords is better. chevrolet:

    Cheap

    Hardly

    Efficiant

    Virtually

    Runs

    On

    Luck

    Every

    Time

  • wow.. your way behind. Just like gm (God's mistake) is. Weak.

  • No, it's "General Mismanagement"... :)

  • Too bad Ford will outlive GM...

  • looks like ford finally realized that truck owners go off road.

  • GM has had this tech for 10 years now. Nice try Ford.

  • you arent very smart are you...lockers have been around for a lot longer than 10 years and GM doesnt get the credit for their existance.

  • ford needs to bring back the 5.8 351

  • i was thinking the some thing, the 351's were very strong and dependable motors

  • good motors...but the triton is even better

  • they just copied chevy off that one

  • Actually Ford's is a world of difference from Chevy. Ford's doesn't slip into a lock. Its a "forced" lock by simply pulling the shift on the fly knob out. Once its locked...its LOCKED. It will even stay locked in reverse, whereas the Chevy will not in revese. The G80 by Chevy is "limited slip".

  • sorry, the G80 is a GOV-Lock diff. its just different in that it's torque-sensing instead of electronically controlled (just one more Ford electronic to die later on)

plus, if someone is dumb enough to leave the Ford's locked while driving it'll tear up the tires and diff

  • Actually ford announced they were going to do this in 2008 and thats when chevy did there's also ford said they were going to have a diesel in there 1/2 ton and then chevy and dodge said they were they are all coping each other

  • wow, no. Chevys been putting the G80 in for years, standard on Z71. I know for sure they had them in 1999. Even my 2004 Blazer's got the G80

they all copied each other on the diesels, i agree

  • my brother in law has a 2002 Z71 and all it has is limited slip

  • thats nice. look in the glove box, if it says G80 as RPO code its a G80 eaton locker, not ltd. slip

  • what do you mean in the glove box in the owners manual or something else

  • yah, i know its in GM but dunno bout ford or dodge. look in the glove box and therell be a sticker with a bunch of letter-number combos. if one says "G80" it has the locking diff. also, if it says GT4 it has 3.73 gears

  • and the GM G80 locks in reverse... I;ve worked for both companies on their trucks and now... try again with some real information.

  • I know that, what the fuck did your statement have anything to do with anything I said? idiot

  • PLEASE FORD! More engine options!

  • i want that truck

  • Check out Popular Mechanics review. They tested all 09 1/2 tons (Tundra, Silverado, Titan, Ram and F150). Results came in the following order.

    1) F150

    2) Ram

    3) Titan

    4) Silverado

    5) Tundra

Go to their site and check it out for yourself.

  • that's right ford's fram is strong

  • The Silverado did not get tested with the 6.2L engine. Every other model had biggest available engine except Silverado. The new F150 is a porky fat slob at almost 6000lbs.

  • i loved that review, i think they are right in putting the f150 in first. however i think that they should have placed the tundra in the upper three above the titan...

  • Hear about 2007 tundra rearend recall

  • Nope, but wouldn't suprise me. What is the source for this info?

  • Steep hills and low-speed terrain can be tackled with the FX4s best-in-class 41:1 crawl ratio in 4-Low.

The 2009 Dodge Ram also offers trailer-sway control, but it only brakes the Rams front wheels when it senses dangerous yaw input from the trailer.

  • Unlike the sticker-buffed Dodge Ram TRX4, Ford gives the FX4 Barry Bonds levels of offroad juice, starting with an electronic locking rear differential supplied by GKN. A key point about the locker is that it works up to 66 mph in 4-Low, so you can get the rear wheels really spinning if youre tightly jammed, and up to 25 mph in 4-High. Exceed those speeds and it automatically disengages. The locker also stays engaged in Reverse, unlike some other systems that have to unlock when backing up.

  • Check out Edmunds, Leftlanenews, Autoweek and pickuptrucks com for reviews of the '09 F150. How about this comment from pickuptrucks

First- and second-gear shifts were cleaner and more confident than in the five-speed automatic 2009 Dodge Ram we drove several weeks ago, even though the Rams 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 is rated at 390 hp and 407 pounds-feet of torque.

  • I don't give a shit if the 5.4 gets 2 mpg better then a 6.2, Your getting 83 more horse power out of the 6.2. I would definitely say that's worth a measly 2 or 3 MPG's

  • wow asshole, i never said drums were overall better. only better as parking brake. since you dont know what youre talking about stay the hell outta the comments

  • HAHA GM has had this kind of technology in their trucks since 2007, how can the 09 f-150 be so great when it is using stuff that has been around in a chevy for 2 years.

  • the GM locker has been around for longer than 2 years....which makes gm that much better!

  • Let me know why GM has cylinder de-activation in their pickups for mileage, but when the 4x4 is in 2x4 mode the front hubs and cv's are spinning. Talk about moronic.... you were saying about gm?

  • this is about the rear diff locker, even with 4 wheel drive this truck wont make it with out the locker, the rollers are on one side.the power gets transfered to the side with least resistance in a limited slip diff.on the second try the locker "locks" and power is applied to bith side and it makes it up.with the cylinder stuff 4 less cylinders using gas means better mpg's

  • wow Ford finally caught up with Chevy in a category other than sales

  • what other catagory? drum brakes in the rear of the half tons? (been there) or pushrod engines? (been there) gm is behind. gm is crap. but i will support them before the toy
