  • This is so ignorant.

  • its sad... thats all... here is an article about Isabelle Caro and her premature death... missance.com/blog/?p=317

  • Ugh the things we say when were lazy COUCH POTATOES!

Anyhow 125 for my height and just all around body appearance was just fucking nasty. It was gross.

I can now say I am one of the lucky ones who are FULLY RECOVERED and instead of fearing that I'm gaining I have an intense fear of loosing. I never count calories anymore. Just go to the gym and eat healthy! It works wonders!

  • You know I'm a chubby woman... and really, being bigger is not that horrible... Whenever I see girls starving themselves to death.. to "not become" like me.. in a way.. it saddens me..because really no one can touch you if you just learn to accept yourself and forget about what everybody wants you to be. I am aware of the fact that it is a mental illness, but I've been there and it genuinely springs from this motiviation

  • "i'm now fully-recovered" you NEVER recover from an ED people in the uk are so messed up >.> it isn't about being fat or skinny it's about control it has NOTHING to do with the media when are these people going to get it straight?

  • Anorexia isn't just about appearance. It is about the mind first and formost. It is a coping method, highly secretive, and unfortunatly it is very hard to treat even people with the disease don't understand. The media doesn't cause ED's, it doesn't help with knowing what the right body size is but doesn't cause them.

  • For fucks sake. Neither FAT nor SKINNY is attractive. Being on a balanced diet, doing regular excersize, and generally keeping fit and healthy is the way to be. And fit, healthy people aren't fucking fat.

  • Speaking as a bulimic I can say my weight has NOT stayed the same, it CAN fluctuate. I've gone from 165 to 140 to IDK what I am now, and I've gone from a (US) 14 to a (US) 4/5 and losing again (Trying to be healthy).

  • Also when was this film made?

  • It says who produced the film but who directed it? (Was it the same 3 people?)

  • THEY MISSED THE MENTAL ILLNESS PART. ugh. they talk about it like it's a cult, like people do it to "look" like celebs and other people. morons.

............ The girl who talked of firsthand experience was the only one who got the correct point across. Key point: "I developed it for MANY reasons.. a lot was going on in my life.."

  • what are the last two songs that u used?

  • i am 5'6 and i was 125 when i had a touch of ana and now im 160lb and i feel im overweight and i need to either tone up or not eat at all

  • I think 125 is great!

  • they dont do it for boys!

  • No offence but I would never ever starve myself for a guy, especially not those guys. I dont even know why I do it really.

  • good video but dosn't show what anorexia really is. there are way too many videos like this that only highlight the stereotype and not the real issue. some of them even glamourize it. They may SAY that it is an illness and that it isn't glamouros but they hardly ever state the consequences. there is far too little information about the inbetween stages. About he point where there should be something stop a person developing a mental illness in the first place.

  • A size 16 looks good on some women. While being morbidly obese is not healthy, not all overweight people are unhealthy just as not all thin people are healthy. We have different body types for different reasons. Everyone trying to be thin is ridiculous and homogenized thinking. Being openly criticized, some are even attacked, for being overweight is one of the last discriminatory practices that has not been morally expunged from society.

  • It's disgusting though how people hate on Anorexia and Bulimia for being "unhealthy" when that person very person is a sice 16 and likely to die from a heart attack!

People tend to glorify being a "Big Beautiful Woman", when in fact, it's just as unhealthy as an eating disorder.

  • hahaha isn't it ironic that the dietist's name is Bacon? XP

  • Look, if women out there were really so hurt by the media that they were all trying to be thin, then explain why it is obesity that is killing more women then anythting else. I seldom see women who are too thin, and see many women(and men) who are far too fat. Obviously people out there are very comfortable being a size 16. For better or worse. Why are there no vids telling people how dangerous it is to be overweight? This PC stuff is not helping anyone.

  • I think you assume too much when you state that "people out there are very comfortable being a size 16".

In my own contact with many women- you tend to find that EVERYONE is seemingly unhappy with their weight- thin or fat. Every woman I know has tried dieting and losing weight.

It seems mostly everyone feels some pressure about their appearance.

Does that mean we should ignore obesity as a serious problem? Absolutely not- but it does seem like I hear more about obesity as a problem than ever

  • Because the media makes people feel bad about themselves to the point where they give up any hope of being good enough or thin enough or pretty enough - and they do the same thing that anorexics and bulimics do dispense their fear through food!

  • When are these people gonna get that anorexia is NOT ABOUT SIZE ZERO VANITY or looking good for boys?!

It's a MENTAL DISORDER...you cant help it...it doesnt make you attractive it makes you look grotesque, but you dont have the power to stop it.

  • I 100% agree with you but on the outside it is about being thin and being beautiful. Controlling your appearance in that manner is how you deal with inner turmoil. But yes, it is a serious disorder than many think is a life style.

  • @marky77 I totally agree we know in that same sane part of our brain that we are thin and know that we are not eating enough (or too much when bingeing) but it is hard to stop.

Its not all about the media not at all I don't think that is ever the cause. If media were the only infulence then people would not become anorexic.

I think people should stop blaming the media.

  • what a load of shite

  • They can't just say all that and say its okay to be whatever size and shape, I mean, that is true to an extent but it IS bad to be overweight.

  • These people are fucking morons. Anorexics are not dumb girls who want to not eat so guys will find them more attractive. They know that not eating enough makes you look BAD and it KILLS YOU, but they can't stop because it is a mental illness.

  • @shaunaplague when i starve myself fora week its not because i want to attract others. its because its a PERSONAL GOAL.

  • no.. but eh? topshop do not use ALL skinny models! i mean, sum yea, but so do all companies.. but topshop.. ughh the ppl who made this shud soooo get there facts right.! x

  • I don't get why a guy would starve himself because I like chubbier guys and girls who are too thin look a bit nasty with all their bones poping out.

  • good explanation

    stupid video

  • Wow,the dietician blinks alot

  • i know lol REPLY TO:Wow,the dietician blinks alot

  • lies, lies, lies... unless you've been fat you have no idea what kind of hell it actually is.

  • I so agree...

  • being fat is the absolute worste stigma that can come upon a young girl.

  • Then why are there more fat kids out there today then ever before? If they are so darn worried why don't they start being healthy?

  • skinny is probably the most beautiful thing in the world.

so these people can shut the fuck up.

they don't know what its like to be fat

  • i so agree....i look at myself and see pure fat and i would love to be model skiny but noone can see where im coming from when i domy diets =/ x btw this not my account im on my bros x

  • Wow...I don't have an eating disorder because I want guys to like me. This movie really sends out the wrong message...

  • kill all men, problem solved....

  • That would be perfect! ;D

  • sounds like a plan :)

  • why not kill all of humanity wile youre at it ;)

  • This is pretty much just a bunch of guys bashing anorexics.

It's a mind disorder over all, and almost uncontrollable- maybe people should be less judgmental and more open minded. Many many anorexics don't start out in hopesof being 'beautiful', it often starts from a core stress or depression in their life.

This is kind of a mean video, but it's all mainly opinion. Whatever.

  • But there are some men, in the U.S., who prefer the really skinny woman.

Particularly in Arizona, it seems that the sklnny women get more attention than the ones with curves here. But it's totally different in Florida (they prefer curves and such). I'm happy I'm moving to Florida next year.

It depends what part of the U.S. that you are, is what they prefer (some states prefer the curvy lady while some others prefer skinny ladies).

  • worst thing ive ever seen.

and wtf is with the retards interviewed, only good for the pure comedy of the GHETTOO BADBOIZZZZ pmsl what a fucking joke.

  • Oh God, this was the worst documentary I've ever seen.. They used false statistics and really, the media isn't that affective. Maybe they are to people without eating disorders, but the most common reasons for developing an eating disorder are family issues, sexual abuse and some other kind of trauma. For me, it was sexual abuse along with having to move away from my childhood neighborhood. I don't want to grow up. You can't cure anorexia by saying that "thin isn't in". That's stupid.

  • I'm so sick people criticizing ppl for being anorexic or weight conscious...I was never able to get a date or even considered by guys when I was chubby...they are bunch of assholes. All they want is naturally skinny girl who eat alot and make everyone else feel like crap!

  • i'd preffer you as a friend than the skinny girls that make everyone else feel like crap...not because of the weight or anything but because you'd be more mature than them and yeah...i weigh 113 pounds and i'm 17 years old .. my mom always tells me how skinny i am and that i look like crap and ugly...and it bugs me but i just tell her w/e ..and yeah ...skinny and not skinny people get dissed it's stupid that people have to look at the outside ..if i picked friends it wouldn't be by looks

  • I also suffer from anorexia, and it has nothing to do with what I see in the media.

  • Im happy that they said don't eat enought-or next to nothing...its annoying b/c people think anorexics dont eat anything and when u see an anorexic eating -u think they're better some could even be a normal weight but that doesnt mean theyre not sick or not suffering-the media protrays anorexics as stick thin girls-the media needs to stop obesessing about body image and maybe one day this disorder can be reduced and girls wont suffer so much..i just wish i could be one of those who never became-

  • What was the song in the beginning?

  • i think i am now suffering from a eating disroder.. i tell my friends.. but not much now cus i thing they get annoyed or w.e im a size 12/10! and i eat only friut and saldads.. on the second day i was so tired and faint! but i carried on for a nother 2 months.. i lost loads of weight.. but then my temptations took over me and i have purgerd my food up in past.. i dont know if that is one?

  • i dont think it is shit. my ed is like that, i want to look like what i see in the media or people on the streets

  • People are so ignorant. My ED was to do with feeling depressed and out of place and awkward. And I didn't really want to look like anything I saw, except a picture in my head and I thought I would be happy if I acheived that. It was about control and seeing thin women in the media had nothing to do with it.

  • took the words right out of my mouth, that's exactly how its been for me.

  • you couldn't have put it any better. i cant stand how most people are just content to shove al the blame over to the media.

it has to do with the constant pursuit of perfection. i was raised in this "elitist" environment. Perfection, in my family, was pretty much the whole "basis" of life.

so when things got tough, i drew strenght from my ed, and like jessicastunden87 said, it was about control. it keeps you sane when everything else goes out of whack.

  • yeah, but that little picture in your head was influenced by what you saw around you, subconciously. that picture in your head was your own personal image of beauty, and you got that image from the world you live in

  • I was anorexic from the time I was 14 until I was 28 and it was mostly self abusive in nature when it began. I stopped eating the first time because I felt guilty about something then I became addicted to it. I am 5'7" and got down to 101. I almost died... Not because of celebs because of me.

  • I have suffered from anorexia for many decades. I can testify that it is in no way caused by the media or celeb's. It is much more serious than appearance! It is a mental illness all about "control".

  • for fuck sake!!! this is total shit!!

we dont all give a shit about the media

i havent picked up a magazine in about a year

we dont all care about the media,

why wont people just get that through their heads?

yeah some anorexics gain an eating disorder because of the media

    NOT ALL!!!!!

  • i aggree with you!!1 i am anorexic and i did not develop it from the media at all! it is shit!!

  • good video!

  • What people don't fucking get is that when those guys say girls with curves, THOSE GIRLS DONT HAVE FUCKING FAT ROLES. THEY ARE SKINNY TOO.

  • this documentry is a load of shit

  • Fuck the guys in this videoklip ! They say they like kurvs but they lie !!! If I and my boyfriend watch tv and a skinny pretty gilr comes he likes it ... not if theres a normalskinny girl whit some as and boobs ! :( I have anorexia ...

  • Anorexics make them self THIN for themselves not for BOYS to want to get funky with them :l

  • this is shit

its like they think by having boys say prefer curvy girls everyone will stop wanting to be skinny

its not true it runs deeper than that

  • thank you, its like im not doing this for you, its for me, its not gonna change b/c u like curvy

  • could you tell me what song is in the beginning?:D

  • be without you by mary j blige

  • this documentry is shit!

it winds me up that people still think its all to do with the media and models and thinking were fat!! for goodness sake! were not shallow people, its something that cotnrols us and we dont want it to be in our lives!!!!!

  • this is shit! yeh some of the stuff there sayin is compltly true! but wat people dnt relise is tht i dont hav an eating disorder to look like a model or a celeb OR EVEN TO BE THIN , i hav this mental illness because its the only thing i can controlin my life!

  • Ok, this video and some of these comments made me so sad...

I have an eating disorder, I am Anorexic, and it is not something I chose, it's something that I've always struggled with, and if someone DOES "choose" to have an eating disorder, that's not really a choice either, because they are obviously hurting and have issues with food.

Also, YES, I want to be thin, YES I want to be model perfect, but that's not why I'm anorexic,it's because I need to be in control of that part of my life!

  • 10% of men have an eating disorder?!?!?!!?

Hahahaha fuck off, that's a HUGE exaggeration. 10% of anorexics are men, but not 10% of all men!!! =/

  • no one said 10% of men were anorexics, they said 10% or men have an eating disorder, which may actually be less than what is true...don't forget not everyone with an eating disorder is thin...

  • You are made in the image of god so therefore you are perfect in the eye's of beholder.

GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

  • I was made in the image of my mother and father actually, as they created me...using their sperm and egg....

And I am far from perfect.

  • This video makes it seem like people just wake up and decide to starve themselves, but it's not like that. Anorexia and Bulimia are mental disorders and a lot of the time aren't caused by the disire to be thin. I had anorexia which relapsed onto bulimia, but it was never because I wanted to be thin... telling someone with an eating disorder to eat and love themselves is like telling a cow to do multiple back-flips.

  • THANK YOU, TooFatOrTooThin!! i'm so tired of these misconceptions that you can catch an ED like you catch a cold or something, that you one day wake up with an ED just because you see a couple skinny celebrities in magazines. ridiculous. you can't just turn it off and on at will. it's in your head & runs your life for years & years..you can't just decide to love yourself again..or just start eating again like a normal person..*sigh*

  • I have sufferd with mild eating disorders throughout my life, I don't eat allot, especially when I was in school i'd eat no breakfast throw away my packed lunch and then leave half my dinner I'd sometimes feel like I was going to faint in school because I hadn't eaten enough I still have a problem now with eating in front of people.

I'm now 18 and weigh 110 pounds or 7 stone and i'm perfectly fine :)

  • your "perfectly fine" so you have recovered from your eating disorders then?!

  • OMG, all those people that're talking on the street,s like "girls shouldn't do that, 'cause it's just stupid" "it doesn't matter, you chould just be happy" WTFH

it doens't matter what other people say it's not about looking good. I hate how people think it's about that. it might be an outlier reason for some people, but there's always somethng beneath that.

  • Exactly. I mean it's not like I just thought one day well I think I'll just starve myself to look good. It has a LOT to do with things that have negatively affected me from an early age.

  • Leave skinny girls alone

    whats the point.

be who you want to be its our life at the end of the day.

  • you influence the entire world by participating in it. All you do, say and think does, everything is conected.

  • The reason they ask guys is because most girls think guys like skinny women but most men love curvier girls and women, and thats a fact....

  • I never thought men liked really thin girls...they like girls with big boobs and wide hips.

  • This documentary seems to make too many generalizations, in my opinion.

And what is the point of asking all the guys what they think about thin girls? Anorexia isn't about being attractive to men.

  • But it does play a part for some people. Also I think they are touching on the distorted view people with anorexia have of themselves.

  • My god, how thick is the girl doing the commentary? Sounds like Karen Taylor on "Glamorama".

  • Well, I'm jut saying that it doesn't make sense for someone with an eating disorder to aspire to look like a fat person...

  • I don't mean to be rude and don't take this as a personal attack, but stuff like this is one of the reasons people do stuff they do, like sticking fingers down their throats or just simply not eating at all. Because of heartless comments like that.

  • Thats your opinion....but keep in mind at the height of her career she was pretty darn thin.....and she gained weight for Victorias Secret to become a big curvier.

  • Omg.

    This is shit :O

  • Hang on, this video says that 10% of men have an eating disorder, but that 9 out 10 cases are female. Assuming that the number of men and women are roughly the same, i could be wrong, but doesn't that imply that 90% of women have an eating disorder? I know that a lot of people suffer from this kind of thing but that many, really?

  • It should be: 10% of People with eating disorders are men. Not 10% of the population in general. 90% of individuals with eating disorders are female, not 90% of all women have eating disorders.

  • this is the worst ddoc ever!!!

  • Okay. Really, this is a lovely job. But it really annoys me when skinny girls say "Oh, be yourself" but really they have no clue what its like. And when you said that media is critizing girls for being too skinny. But the reality is the front always reads "SUPER SKINNY. THE EATING DISORDER EPIDEMIC.... PAGE 7, BRITTANY SPEARS GAINED A POUND, OH MY!" It is so annoying.

  • i agree, i dont bother telling my friends how bad i feel about myself because wen i have done in the past they dismiss it and say "diets are stupid" or "its ur personality that counts" which really annoys me because they dont know what its like.

  • I think you might have misstated a statistic. At 2:39 you stated "10% of men have an eating disorder".

I don't think this is true. I think what you meant to say is "10% of all people who suffer from an eating disorder are men".

Please note that there is a big difference between the two statements.

  • I an currently anorexic and I'm a male

  • all the girls saying "you should be yourself, not worry about your weight" are all skinny anyway

how the fuck do they know what its like? :/

  • Most people who have intense worries about their weight are some of the most physically attractive people... They do know how it feels because they think that they look like that.

  • what's that song that starts at 2:15?

  • Unfaitful by Rihanna..

  • I think its "Unfaithful" by Rihanna

  • O JESUS CHRIST NO A SKINNY PERSON ehayh what is POPULAR fucking obestity haey get the fuck outta here and go hang urself if ur fat u werent made that way fuckin ftases FUCKING FATASSES

  • I have recently created a pro-recovery forum for people suffering/recovering from an eating disorder. If you would like the url for the forum feel free to message me as Youtube won't let me post links on here.

    Take care :)

  • it wasn't a film. its hollyoaks. the english soap programme. :)

  • what is the name of the movie you see on 4:04-4:14?

  • ahahahahaha- pat bacon! and i thought my name was bad!

  • i feel ashamed of myself, i'm not proud of what i am =[ everyone has such a bad opinion of people with an ED! It's a mental thing like self harm i guess, there should be more help, but there isn't! i'm 6ft tall and weigh 98lb, so i know i need help! To all the other girls out there with an ED, get help!

  • and stop trying to defend somethign thats wrong!

  • Weight is usually a bullshit indication of an ED. My BMI is 18.8-19 and I weight 96 but I don't LOOK like I have an ED...and seriously what's with the notion that people get eating disorders because "they want to look hot". Seriously not true.

  • DON'T BLAME THE MEDIA

people don't develop eating disorders to copy stars

  • i am rather chubby and i don't really care but what hurts me the most is i get bullied for it i always get judged by what i look like not by how nice i am guys go for skinny girls never fat girls or agirls that are slightly chubby it isn't fair don't die to be thin it's not worth it

  • notice how they only asked like black guys if they like skinny girls, they all like big boobs and asses, so biased.

  • yeh thats right!

  • sinny is better then fat!!!!!!!

  • i agree.

    :]

  • You know what sometimes it's not even about the wieght,

    it's just about the contol.

Some anorexics might not even be that thin.

  • That's impossible.. People with eating disorders might not be that thin. You are not considered anorexic unless you fit the anorexic criteria.

  • (in reply to thinspiration1's comment)

  • Actually he/she's right. A 240 lb person could be anorexic; they would lose 40 lbs in a short amt of time, fit all the other criteria of anorexia, drop down to 200, but people would have a hard time noticing the problem because they'd still be fat, and would think there's no problem.

Thus it is actually a very dangerous misconception that all anorexics are skinny..

  • i completely agree.

  • actually you HAVE to have a BMI of 17.5 or lower to be diagnosed with Anorexia

a person who is above that but who is losing weight rapidly from self starvation would be diagnosed with EDNOS

    look it up

  • That may be written somewhere, however there are still people in the world diagnosed with anorexia who do not have this bmi.The physical effects are symptoms essentially the disease is in the mind. And that may or may not be hard to diagnose depending on the person and their circumstances in the real world.

  • you're an idiot.

  • its a mental disorder, they don't think they're skinny they think they're obese. Also thet may just starve to self harm and hurt themselfs, they feel they deserve it. they're are so many diffrent reasons.

  • I don't know why you've got so many thumbs down but I think you are SOOO right! Whether guys have a mental disorder or whatever, they shouldn't TRY to be thin anyway, they should grow muscles and be athletic-shaped!

  • With guys, they have eating disorders in hopes of looking more athletic. Either they think they look fat or too skinny and try to do something in order to appear more athletic

  • Damn, that was shallow!

And did anybody else feel like they could have slowed down a bit (and maybe said something with more content instead)??

  • This is bullsh*t!! Having an eating disorder isn't anything to do with the size 0 epidemic, looking good or for men! Its about control. Usually something traumatic happens in our lives, like parents divorcing or sexual abuse. Like cmon people!

    <3 Anorexia

  • thats bs. My parents are divorced and I had the world's strictest and sometimes meanest parents. I weigh a good 105, but i am NOT anorexic nor bulimic. I love my self. you girls just have LOW SELF-ESTEEM, and i feel really sorry for you guys! I LOVE to EAT. Honeybuns and candy are my FAVORITE foods, and my faveorite restaurants are BUFFETS. I'm sorry for putting caps on everything, but you girls need to WAKE UP and stop killing yourselves!

  • Well then i guess you're LUCKY you didn't develop one for that reason. And i'm GLAD you love yourself. But telling us to "wake up and stop killing ourselves" doesn't mean anything to anyone reading this. you're just another ignorant person commenting on a youtube video with no real idea how FXCKING EVIL THIS SH1T IS. get over yourself, and grow up.

  • here here!

  • Darling, I am grown. I wasn't being a bitch about, its just that, you shouldn't feel so disgusted about yourself that you have to do this to yourselves. Its horrible, and I just completed a 16 page term paper over this shit... I see these gruesome pics about the affects of bulimia and anorexia. Its really disturbing.

  • "you shouldn't feel so disgusted about yourself that you have to do this to yourselves" - Its not just that.

PEOPLE STEREOTYPE THINGS SO MUCH IT FRUSTRATES ME.

TAKE IT FROM SOMEONE WHO KNOWS.

ITS NOTHING TO DO WITH GUYS.

and I'm glad you love yourself.

  • i agree everybody thinks that girls do it to look good for guys!

  • also, writing a 16 page term paper about eating disorders doesn't mean you know what it likes to have it. all you know is the side effects, what happens but you'll never know why we do it unless you ever experience it.

  • you know not eveyone can eat honeybuns, candy and go to buffets, and still weight 105. I agree with whaT you're saying....it's still not right to deprive yourself of food, but not everyone is blessed with a super efficent metabolism.

  • bulimics do not necessarily consume 'grossly excessive' amounts of food.another point, when someone has an ED the opinion of boys and other people becomes irrelavant and the only person you are trying to please is yourself.also it is not about seeing a skinny celeb and trying to emulate them its about seeing a distorted body image of urself and the need to fix it.

my response is based purely on my own struggles with ED's and i am in no way speaking for the entire ana/mia population

  • Agreeeeed. 100%. I'm sick of people's sterotypes ESPECIALLY ones where people think this horrible mental disorder has to do with wanting to get a boyfriend or something, or when it's to do with attention. I think some people might do it for those reasons (but I'm not sure obviously) but it's definately not the reason for at least 99% of EDs.

  • ha the dieticians name is Bacon.... how funny....

any on a more serious note.... why cant people realise... ANOREXIA IS NOT ABOUT LOOKING GOOD

  • Basically this is just preaching. It's not even enough for a good trigger. It's just people talking who don't really know what they're talking about, because most/all have never been there.

  • its nice to say that all people are beutifull but lets face it people who are very fat are not. anyone over 200 pounds can be beutifull on the inside but not on the outside. when people admire a stranger it is not the heavy person that they look at.

  • 90% of females are anorexic? That angers me! in the UK, 1% is anorexic.

  • no, 90% of anorexics are female lol

  • hahaha funny as hell

  • This is stupid. Most women with eating disorders don't do it to be attractive to men--people who diet do. I wish people were more educated about the difference.

  • I totally agree

  • I compleatly agree with you.

and men can be anorexic too!

  • my sister's boyfriend is anorexic. The other day we were at BurgerKing he ordered some burger fries and WATER as a drink. I swear he ate 10 fries then asked for the rest to be packed(+ burger) as take away. I wouldn't be shocked if he gave the food to some homeless guy in the streets

  • Poor guy, I really hoppe he is okay soon.

one of my cousins is anorexic, it so sad.

get well soon to your sister's boyfriend

    x

  • i feel bad for the people who think there fat... when the truth is .... there really not!
