Opel and Vauxhall make exactly the same cars, but have different badges, and Opel is German while Vauxhall is British. But they're both owned by the nazi Americans so that they can make money, and maybe in the future, GM will sell the two companies again, but of course to an Asian shit company, like they do and have done with almost every single European car manufacturer, and actually with all British ones.
Nissan Qashqai...is by far the best. I had the focus, honda civic hatchback, asx mitsubishi all in mind , test driven all of them but in the end went for the Qashqai.
All good cars mind you, but it bols down to waht one wants on the road.
By the way, thanks carbuyer for all your feedback, much appreciated.
I personally think the exterior looks a bit boring, certainly not a nice as the new Focus but the interior blows all its rivals out of the water. Its like a mini Insignia inside
Beautiful car. Looks much better than a 3rd-gen Focus and than a bland Golf. If GM had not killed Saturn this is what we would have here in the U.S. as Saturn Astra. Maybe GM should sell it under Chevrolet name instead of rebadged Daewoos.
"Vauxhall have really come along with their new generation of models. The Astra, Insignia, Corsa, Zafira, Meriva, Agila. They're all better than their Ford and VW contemporaries." Same level as Ford I'll grant them that but they definately aren't better then Volkswagen. I'm sorry pal if you think that then you are on your own there.
Vauxhall have really come along with their new generation of models. The Astra, Insignia, Corsa, Zafira, Meriva, Agila. They're all better than their Ford and VW contemporaries.
I have an Astra 2.0cdti Elite which in MY OPINION is the best in it's class in all aspects that's why I bought it. Focus and Golf owners obviously think the same about their cars so where's the problem, let's all live in harmony and enjoy our chosen motors.
I can't stand how Fords are dubbed "best driving cars" After working for Enterprise and driving every make of Ford its all commercial bull****. I found Astra J's/Insignias/Mk2 Mervivas to be a lot better on driver involvement and handling then Fords, the chassis remains poised and flat no matter what you do with it. Fords dig in to the tarmac and understeer when forced around a hard corner they aren't great. Just don't listen to these reviewers because you will end up wasting money on a Ford.
@1ns4ne1d10t You've never driven a ford in your life...you're just a mentally sick asshole who keeps hating on ford for years...i remember arguing with you 2 years ago about ford mondeo....you're still writing hating comments on all ford videos? I guess you really are an insane idiot.
@derbigpr500 I have driven Fords nearly all my life and if you explored outside of the box you might find better driving cars. Of course you wouldn't know anything about that because you have never driven anything else but a Ford because you are too scared shitless to leave Ford and try something different, typical Ford lover aren't you? Break the cycle, buy another make of car it might surprise you lifes full of surprises and little packages you just have to learn to explore.
Can't wait to see these on the road here, in Australia. From 2012, Opel will return with Corsa (first here), Astra (Holdern used to have - till Mk5), and Insignia. Meriva is on the horizon for final call with possble late addition of new Zafira in model lines. I want to have Astra, though :) I think they finally cracked it into real competition with class leaders, such as Ford Focus (also in late 2012 - NEW ones), and Volkswagen Golf. Happy drive everyone!
@timppa600 It's a spare, I know one other Vauxhall model has an optional extra of a pull out cycle carrier, maybe this model also has this feature, if so then the cycle would cover the plate, hence the need for one to place on cycle.
@wiganlaticsman iv owned the ford focus, i didnt like it so much either, it drove well but lacked character i think..... when i sold it, i test drove the golf and astra, and sorry, but the golf is a better all rounder, admittedly, the astra does look nicer, but the golf does everything else just that little bit better, it also was a lot cheaper at the time.
@wiganlaticsman Bullshit! The Focus is common for a reason, because its good. The Golf is overrated and boring ill admit, Vauxhall's are good but they're all driven by wankers!
@Deltamike23 As far as I know the reason is opel made machines for german army during the world war 2 and after that they needed to use another name at some countries.
@Deltamike23 Vauxhall was the name of a motor company GM acquired early on, and because it was familiar to UK buyers, the brand remained, even though it is essentially Opel rebadged.
@seauryakumar "Opel AKA Buick AKA Vauxhall AKA Holden" True, but all of those are originally OPEL's, they're engineered, developed and designed in Opel factory in Germany.... others (Vauxhall, Buick) just put their badges on and in Vauxhall's case do a steering wheel conversion to right side.
@derbigpr500 What a load of!!!Vauxhall are of English origin and the top designer of New Astra is English Mark Adams is his name.In a few years with your way of thinking people will be saying Rolls Royce Mini should be badged BMW.don't think so.
@MacGyver920 Well now they share 2 cars with Opel/Vauxhall and they are owned by GM which also owns Opel/Vauxhall. It's not exactly a same company but their relationship is more like Holden than say Vauxhall/Opel.
@seauryakumar correct but the Astra, Insignia, Corsa... they were all engineered and designed by Opel from Germany by German engineers and the rest just kind of got the schematics from them by the order of GM
@seauryakumar It used to be Opel AKA Saturn AKA Vauxhall AKA Holden AKA Pontiac, until GM killed the Saturn and Pontiac badges and tried to move down lower priced Chevrolets to fill Saturn's niche and make sportier Buicks to fill the performance gap left by Pontiac. :(
@Deltamike23 vauxhall used to have it's own car models but then GM wanted to save money, and as both Opel and Vauxhall were owned by GM, they decided to kill Vauxhall and produce only Opel's but they kept the name Vauxhall in Britain
Just bought a 2010 astra 1.4 exclusiv ,I find that its not the quickest car by any means but with the gf still being 21 insurance is still pretty steep otherwise I would have gone for the turbo sri ,inside its the smartest interior in its sector ,you really have to see it for yourself as pics and vids dont do it justice ,years ago I woudnt of even looked at a vauxhall but the insignia and new astra have came on leaps and bounds for them and its a sure thing that they will sell really well.
People who buy this car don't rally care if the ride is not so sporty, it is more important that is refine. If you need that buy Gulietta :) which is also a prettiest car at the market.
I bought 1.7cdti (125hp), and it was 3 000€ cheaper than golf, and you don't get electric brake in VW.
One more thing, it is comfortable on the rear seats.
If you mix your personal taste as the guy that make this review you end whit a CLASSIC FORD FOCUS (classic because the shape has years and year since 1995) and has no rank on the best cars since 1999, so yea it was a good car back in the 90's but is time to be on 2010.
So I think the conclusion is, Im agree that focus FEEL more sport, and the console buttons of the Astra are confuse, Golf is more expensive but not better in quality or technology and the OPEL EYE, that was not mentioned one the review, one of the most important technology attachments, that no car has on this segment, or the 5 stars on crash test makes the Astra the best selection.
Just a remark: Golf is more expensive than the Astra, by much more, and the quality of this model is better. This car is nominates for best car of the year, not VW Golf, and of course not the ugly (my opinion) Ford focus, and at the end the Opel Astra finish on 3er place.
every vauxhall i've had from a hire car company has gone back later the same day with faults.

But day by day I discovered all the mechanical advantages. Great car.

In sweden the Astra is actually cheaper than Golf(comparing turbo 140 with VW:s TSI 122).
I think they did a great job with the design of this model.
The Focus may be good but I cant for the love of god figure out what happened to the rear lights.
