OMG I just fell in love with him and his voice when I saw this on TV a while ago. It's just so beautiful! My favourite aria from my favourite opera. Thanks for uploading!
The scar is a so-called Schmiss, from an injury recieved at fencing .
Lenskij studied in Göttingen,Germany, where he was member in a fraternity. In some/many german fraternitys there used to be (and still is) a big tradition of fencing.
hey! Lensky was the one who challenged Onegin to the duel. He brought it on himself! Onegin was haunted by this tragedy the rest of his life - he certainly did not want to kill his best friend.
I think this voice is absolutely gorgeous. I wish he would sing with vibrato on every note instead of all the straight tone singing, but I find his voice totally gorgeous.
Difficult to believe that this guy was a baritone. I would be very interested to hear how he sounded in those days... I hear very distinctly a tenor voice here.
I went to university with him and the first moment I heard him singing I figured he was a tenor... so ya it was pretty difficult to believe he was a baritone
His Russian is a bit funny but not nearly as funny as that of Ramón Vargas who sang Lensky at the Met. There are plenty of funny German accents in Wagner and funny Italian accents in Mozart. Should we be talking about his accent or about his phrasing and his overall ability to convey the meaning and the drama of the scene? Frankly, Kaiser's Lensky leaves me cold. Not because he is not "sobbing like a sissy girl" but because he seems to have little to say. Nice voice but only barely good singing.
FINALLY! a clip on YouTube that shows off the amazerizing powers of Kaiser! Although his tenor voice is not innately very remarkable, he certainly knows how to use it to interpret. When his voice matures further, he will be a true force to be reckoned with.
Kaiser's Russian only seems bad because he didn't sob his way through the aira like a little sissy girl as would Beniamino Gigli, BeniaminoGigli. And for Christ's sake, Wobblatura; how much more forward do you need it? Must blood spew from his nose?
Kaiser may be a bit of a Wanker, but he's a damned good tenor.
MokeySmitty-What is the definition of the word "Wanker" that you are so redundant and obsessed with? Gigli happened to have been arguably, the finest tenor of the twentieth century-after Caruso! Very few others compared.Have you any complaints as to the style or abilities of Jon Vickers, Giuseppi di Stefano, Jusi Bjoerling,Franco Corelli,Lauritz Melchior,or others as yet not named?
Love his voice! The Russian isn't very good though (according to my friend Yuriy Yuravenko). He couldn't understand anything "Kuda kuda". haha

Wonderful! Bravo! I saw him on Sat 4/23/11 in the HD live broadcast from the
Met Opera as Hamand in "Capriccio" and thought he was great.

Not realy bad for a foreigner but the tempo of the aria is too slow and some notes are made artificialy long.
