Swan Song was the Zep label but the albums were released through Atlantic who originally had Zep under contract. Presumably Zeps label wouldnt have coped with the scale of distribution world wide. The album is somewhere between a 'here is some stuff lying around the studios' and a possible 'last album' due to agreements with Atlantic. Ball crushing riff on this by the way! as the years go by I prefer early Zep to the later '77 rock God version.
Why was CODA released? Everyone says it was to fulfil a contract and make the fifth album to satisfy the record company. But Zeppelin's record company, after 1973 was Swan Song, a label they themselves set up. Could they not have let themselves off the contract?
one of the things that is crazy is how they just walk on stage as though 'right another gig'. putting out fucking mind blowing performances was just standard routine for led zeppelin.
@pyurmassacur JPJ's bass is the studio version, but Page had to tone it down because it was just too fucking awesome. Page mostly re-did the guitar parts, and John Bonham re-did some of the drums.
@The12karaoke I think that might have been a SLIGHT overreaction. Do you know what "prime" means? You can't have multiple primes. And because I think that Zeppelin's live performances were their best around this time, doesn't mean I don't like their other ones. I AM SORRY TO HAVE OFFENDED YOU GOOD SIR -__-
@randompandemic2 it's what's keeping the band together... bonzo nearly messed it up in the middle, but thanks to JPJ, they kept it together. JPJ, one of the best bass players in the world and one of my personal idols... in all bass-related things. and much of anything else. :)

When they were at their best in my opinion. They really rocked it in the late 60's - 1972.

Just awesome, I love them at their early intense best. Yes their age made a difference, as probably did the vast amounts of coke!
