Do you remember in Eclipse when she goes with Jacob to the council meeting and she learns of the story where the third wife sacrificed herself to save her husband from the vampire? In the book, she never actually does it but in the movie she does. I think it made it a little better that she actually went through with it. It gave her a little more power in the fight to be able to help Edward.
