  • remember when a 128 meg hard drive was the size of a mellon? now i can carry 16 gigs on something the size of my fingernail. soo, maybe we'll have lightsabers soon. no more medieval swords for me!

  • I saw this episode.

  • magneto.................sith lord

  • There you go! build a training saber!...lightsabers are kinda too advanced

  • Comment removed

  • I LOVE how he smiles when he says "You need about 50 Megawatt..."

  • Excuse if this sounds stupid, but if ceramics clash against eachothet... Dont they break?

  • EIMarkz

Your gonna rob a bank with it

  • what the fuck are you gonna do with a light saber?

  • I like Michio Kaku, infact love him; however, I found the topic of this program rather boring and childish.

  • Dr. Kaku is in fact a Jedi Master, revealing his secrets.

  • This is awesome because this is probably how the Jedi developed their lightsabers. The originals had portable power packs that were attached to their belts, so this is not far off

  • 5:23-24 : he knows this stuff is retarded as fuck.

  • michio has diverted his attention from research to filming and acting. like athletes, they forget what their job was and just concentrate on ads, films, making money... wat a waste

  • You wouldn't melt from just turning it on? Its as hot as the sun.

  • Also you have you have to realize that in other galaxies there are different types of matters, crystals, and materials that can be used.

  • To build a Light Saber...we need a special cristal...

Thinking about us having plasma cutters...why does in the game Halo, humans still have bullet guns, and haven't yet develop a plasma gun? I mean, it IS in the future, and they have warp speed.

  • The first issue with the plasma blade- the one that doesn't clash- is it still strong enough to cut through anything? If i had a quarter-sized power source capable of powering New York (i don't.), and i didn't care if it would clash with itself would it work? Or would i still need the new Ceramic? Is this Ceramic obtainable anywhere? (I'm NOT trying to make one- i'm trying to make my World of Darkness Mage make one. World of Darkness is otherwise this world, meaning if i can buy it here...)

  • Darth Kaku

  • how about create a nano scale wire strong enough to be heater to high temperature but impossible to bend wouldnt make a light saber? just an opinion./.

  • They can use a mini nuclear reactor in the handle.

  • and the ceramic must be hard enough to withstand the clash between two "light" sabers or anything.

  • the power pack he speaks of is rather unnecessary lots of power yes but if you look into it light sabers aren't to much stronger than a regular plasma cutter they dont cut through everything and actually take there sweet time cutting through metal's

  • Little fun fact which I'm sure the mega nerds will also know, he mentions at the end needing the usage of a portable powerpack. That WAS actually meant to be with earlier lightsabers in the lore. Protosabers

  • Hes a japanese but lived and grew up in the us

  • I'm starting to prefer Kaku's version of a lightsaber over the fictional ones. Like, if I could have one, I'd choose Kaku's if it weren't so much more dangerous.

  • "it will burn trough just about anything, except with a hax!" i went like, wait what? but he said perhaps :(

  • if this thing gets to the temperature of the surface of the sun...wouldn't it burn you alive just by being in proximity of it?

  • @The80sKickAss Magnetic field is containing it.

  • the magnetic field will actually aid in helping the heat move through radiative transfer. He's not using the field to handle the heat, he's using it to mold the plasma into a shape. He completely negates the fact that there will be 9,940 degrees F radiating off the damn thing.

  • @The80sKickAss Err why do i post when i hadn't slept in 3 days heh sorry about that m8, apparently i was thinking the magnetic field was redirection most of the charged particles actually i cant even remember my entire thought train...

  • @The80sKickAss Check out the inverse square law

  • light saber was made in a galaxy far far away... earth rules dont apply

  • 5 people have joined the darkside.

  • I'd laugh if he dropped the ceramic and said "Ahh fuck its still hot!"

  • Why doesn't the military build this??? Haha

  • HE looks asian, but doesn't talk like one? what kind of sourcery is this!?!?

  • @techdiner He's from USA.

  • He isn't making a light saber, he is making a vibro blade.

  • who cares if it doesn't clash, you could slice through anything on the planet..

  • FUCKIN MAGNETS HOW DO THEY WORK?

  • hahaha you can tell he has never used a plasma cutter before

  • The plasma would burn your hand

  • Plasma torch, ceramic core, dude, this is no freaking light sabre.

  • @perfuzz the core isnt ceramic the shield cup is and only to prevent melting parts... oh and i think this guy might be a little smarter than you... just a little

  • @bloodiedknuckles - So you basically saying, he probably understands sarcasm better then you.

  • praise be asians

  • He could just make a protosaber; it has a power pack on the belt with a wire connected to the handle.

  • The Nickel was on a ceramic base when they put it in the furnace, no shit it was going to survive- fuck it.

  • how to make a lightsaber:

    1 go to youtube

    2 find a stupid video

    3 dislike

4 come back several days later

5 look at the dislike bar

  • @frunlakiso2 Your not a Star Wars fan are you?

  • @VongolaAQW223 nah, i watched one movie of star wars and that's it, i'd rather watch something else ;)

  • @frunlakiso2 LOL!

  • @frunlakiso2 Wouldn't that be the lightsaber of the dark side? O.Olll But I wanna be the good guy, I would use the like bar on this video.

  • @frunlakiso2 but, i do not want to be a sith :c

  • @frunlakiso2 Ok

  • actually plasma is the most common matter in the universe unless you count dark matter

  • @thaister88 Your vocabulary is less than 2,000 words, most of them four-letter. Dr. Kaku's vocabulary is a bit over 45,000 words. I'd rather listen to him than to you.

  • @upajos

Actually...The average person uses 20,000 words, with another 40,000 in reserve.

  • @upajos i know the word interesting. i have an amazing vocab well over 100 words. which consist of mostly it i uhuh and hey. would you like to listen to me? i used google to google most of these hard words i used.

  • @upajos is that just something u pulled outa your ass? or did he really say that?

  • @thaister88 It's O.K. to be all talk when you know WTF you're talking about.

  • Good Job Dr. Michio Kaku

  • holy shit, even in 360p this looks like 1080p

  • Why am I getting a Chuck Norris joke out of this?

  • Fucking magnets, how do they work?

  • the earth's mag + a big lightening strike<boom! one big round ball of "where the hell is my 'father'?"

  • plasma cutter is a light saber? lol i used that in high school

  • @SROnivera

Regardless of whether plasma is added to the sword, it's still a sword.

  • This makes me want to work with science

  • wait idf it doesnt clash then its awesome! no things to stop you!

  • wow a jap that speaks english fluently... that's rare... i was in japan before and got lost.. i asked someone who knows english there on how to go to kyoto i was got to tokyo instead...

  • @ArticHound that jap you speak of is one of the greatest minds of modern day physics, and you are just a pale skinned potato munching sheep abuser, you're nothing pal. and he commands respect the world over. Live with it :)

  • @ArticHound japanese that only speak japanese that live in japan? how dare they.

  • @ArticHound Hes an American not Japanese. Man you don't have to be white to be American.

  • @and1dodger exactly....it's very ignorance, it's just like how most american think mexicans are brown and short and when they see a white mexican with blond hair and blues eyes, they are like "WHAT?? YOU'RE MEXICAN? OMG.." hahah shit is always funny to see

  • haha jk

  • cant you see? that little blow torch is a lighsaber! just a miniture one. just make the flame go longer and boom. lightsaber.

  • I want a plasma sword!!! xD

  • im not done watching all of the episodes...

but instead of stopping it at three feet and having to go thru all that trouble,

why not put a stopping point at the three feet marker almost like a plasma shielded steel wall. one thats about the size of a nickle or larger. holding it would be a rod attached to the light saber.

    idk just thinking out loud

  • ceramics will break instantly on impact and plasma will go out of control .... RIP

  • What is the name of this music?

    any help ?

  • @sab00899 I really need it too !!

    help?

  • Those same ceramics if used in the right manner as in part as they are in some degree could be used more with cars Lining parts of the combustion chamber as like either coating the top of the Piston Head with a composite Alloy along with the use of Values made from as such so as to retain the heat increaseing the temp helping with pre-detonation kNock....then fuel could be leaned out Adding 100's miles to tanks of Gas, as well changing the out put of emissions output

  • @BruceMichaelAnderson Ummm.. they've had ceramic engines (parts) for over a decade... just sayin. Even further on gas.. my sister had a 94 ford Aspire. it got 53mpg. 53! and now, almost 20 years later, I think the leader is the Prius with 41. How is THAT advancement? ::sigh:: one of these days, the money-mongers will wake up

  • a minature black hole?

  • just create a force field shaped like a sword and coat it with plasma BOOM , exactly a lightsaber

  • @mickycheese27 How are you going to create the force field? Magic?

  • @GangsterNub packed photons to repel objects (that's how laser cooling works) all we need now is hologram tech.

  • @mickycheese27 You know what plasma IS.. right? you can't COAT something with it. Plasma is electrified gas. It gas must be contained. Oh, and how are you gonna cut something (say a wall) when your sword is being repelled from it? You would essentially have to use force to PUSH the matter away from it.. therefore you would need to be stronger than the object's molecule bonds.

  • @Talusmade I know plasma is super heated gas, it has a property that allows it to be confined in a magnetic field, a force field doesn't necessarily have to be repelled it can act like a certain material (like diamond) which can come into contact with anything like solid matter.you generate this field then around it confine the plasma generated from the handle. The bonds formed by the forcefield is at the sub atomic level

  • @GangsterNub I think your theory has a hole, If you're using a force field won't that repel the target making it no more useful than a stick?

  • @GangsterNub Exactly!

  • Not sure if trolling...

States of matter - Solid, Liquid, Gas, Plasma

  • @rykemapo that is not really accurate. it was taught in schools like that, but no, plasma isn't that simple. It's gas with an electrical current or charge. if you take a cup of water.. and keep applying heat. you will NEVER get plasma. Some kind of force must be applied to give an electrical charge. SUCH as the weight of the earth turns the iron in our core to plasma

  • @Talusmade Uhh no. The iron in our core is not a plasma, it's a solid. If you apply a large amount of heat to water, it will eventually turn to steam and then separate out into hydrogen and oxygen. If you continue to add heat, then it becomes ionized, aka a plasma. So yes, applying heat to water will eventually turn it into a plasma.

  • Comment removed

  • @NewRisingSong LOL it can be the seventh for all you know. There are a lot of other states that can be created in a lab, but they don't have "numbers". Plasma is known as the fourth state as it is introduced to almost all students who go through high school, while the additional states are usually studied in labs and universities.

    "Dump" ass (were you joking?)

  • Comment removed

  • @NewRisingSong The fifth element is Boron. Explain how plasma is the fifth element?

And when I said "were you joking", I was talking about the whole comment. I am arabic, actually, and although english is my first language, my father sometimes mixes up his "b"s and "p"s. I thought you were just an ignorant commentator who was quick to prove himself smarter scientifically than a quantum physics professor, therefore ignoring conventional English spelling.

  • Comment removed

  • @NewRisingSong For you, the fifth element is Heart! lol

  • Comment removed

  • @NewRisingSong Regardless, I don't see why you would call Professor Kaku a dumb-ass in the first place.

  • Comment removed

  • Kaku will be Yoda in about 800 years...

  • Kaku is a genius

  • 50 megawatts? we need to hook it to the clock tower precisely at midnight during the year 1985.

  • @youraveragematyou got that from back to the future!

  • @patrickwellerwrites you have saved the day once again captain obvious!

  • @youraveragemat it's 1955, and you'd be overpowering it because that's not 50 megawatts, it's 1.21 jiggawatts

  • @youraveragemat actually that scene was in 1955 IIRC.

  • @youraveragemat no its 1.21 gigawatts

  • @youraveragemat It was 1.21 gigawatts =P

  • @youraveragemat um no you need 1.21 gigawatts. Megawatts won't do anything to that magnitude.

  • @youraveragemat I am from 3 months in the future. You will make a cool comment. You will be famous and I will love you.

  • there are three things a lightsaber blade cannot cut thru a lightsaber blade a vibrosword and cortosis thats right i read up on my star wars

  • @moxinnoliblast except that the reason it can't cut a vibrosword is because the have a cortosis weave on them... so really it's only two things. Armor was also made with Cortosis but it equired much more and the ore is VERY expensive.

  • 0:37, he must use those googles procteting his eyes with a simple plasma torch... Imagin a lightsaber...

  • nicola tesla would be able to build one :)

  • lightsabers are coverded by same magnetic fields which stops them from going into each other by "blowing them from each other" but it still can cut through virtually anything

  • A lightsaber exactly like the one explained in wookipedia will never be possible. because with the lightsabers in the movies, games, shows etc. the blade is housed inside a coating of the force which keeps it together. the force however does not exist.

  • not the Force, but a force field. basically a magnetic container.

  • @MSKproductions123456 Sorry. you are mistaken. a lightsaber has NOTHING to due with the force. Not directly at least. a saber is pure technology. (even in StarWars)

  • Best Cup Evar

  • Where the hell did you get that awesome cup??

  • Get over it. It will never be possible.

  • @HHHdahman

That's not entirely true. In the Star Wars universe, it took millennia to master the technology behind personal lightsabers. They evolved from very primitive ones that required an entire backpack reactor in order to power it, then over the next couple thousand years, they refined it and built smaller and more robust power cells to put in the blade shaft. I believe we will do it the same way, continually improving throughout many years to achieve the technology behind lightsabers.

  • I KNEW IT! THERE IS A FORTH MATER!!!!

  • @kaymo211 unfortunately boba is too stupid lol

  • you could use antimatter for power if you could get enough of it

  • Finally, these Sith swords do no good for my back.

  • hey dr michio kaku can i build one

  • hes got the same laptop as me haha. random but it made me giggle. it obviously means im just as intelligent as him lol

  • @theUKatheist

    lol obviously :)

  • or take 3 125wat lasers duck them together build something to keep them then build the body of the light saber put them in and done u can burn things with it really quick

  • well, make a steel rod wear you can heat it up in a different color, it will make a lighten up appearence and would cut through stuff but not as easy

  • @kaymo211

    NO

    NOT CERAMIC SWORDS!

the only this lightsabers cant get through other than another lightsaber is a vibroblade.

  • @betheperson1 dont go making knight of the old republic references where do you hear about vibroblades in the movies nowhere no im just kidding

  • @fes12in

    actually, it's in episode 5.

  • @betheperson1 when do they mention vibroblades

  • @fes12in

    watch it

  • @betheperson1 its in episode 6

  • @fes12in

    oh.

    my mistake.

  • @betheperson1 And anyone with more than half a brain will immediately put 2 and 2 together and decide "vibroblades are clearly made with ceramics!" thus completely negating your objection.

  • @Crazael

I am sorry but you are incorrect.

    look up vibroblade in wookiepedia.

    good day sir.

  • @betheperson1 Cortosis, more specifically. I know someone else probably already pointed it out, but I just wanted to seem like I knew what I was talking about. ^.^

  • @betheperson1 But that's still making sense in the concept that "lightsabers" = some form of energy and energy > matter but not other energy hence the effect of the vibroblade protects it's material component and why force lightining is deflected/absorbed/drawn to a lightsaber correct?

  • @joemama114

I cant exactly specify how the vibroblade protects it's actual blade from super heated plasma.

im thinking there might be some kind of electromagnetic shielding based in the metal? or maybe it's not metal at all?

    i'll look further into it.

  • @betheperson1 Well that's how they did it in that K.O.T.O.R. video game you could add different batteries to the blade and cause odd or focused resonations in some kind of enegey field that surrounded the blade. I honestly It'd be easier to design some kind of better vibroblade that had an energy field or sonic resonance field or something that made it cut better XD but then again I have no physics training so it may be more complicated I got no clue.

  • @betheperson1 WRONG! It needs cortosis weave for it to be able to stop a lightsaber. Check with Trask Ulgo in the beginning of Kotor when you go onto the bridge. Yea, I said it. If your gonna nerdly correct someone, do it right. Necros out. lmao

  • @DarthNecros215

Yes, But all vibroblades are made through cortosis weave.

If they weren't, it would be next to useless.

Thats why they are effective in KOTOR. because they have already undergone the process of corotosis weave. if your going to nerdly correct some-one, do it right...

  • @betheperson1 Cannonly speaking (and a touch of developer) not ALL vibroblades have cortosis weave (in game, yes, they all did. But honestly that would just waste to make a 'completely' new weapon series just to fit it into the cannon). It was a very common thing to put cortosis weave on it, but there were still quite a few that didn't.

  • @DarthNecros215

Ok first, there is a reason they are called vibroblades, it is because of the massive amounts vibration it gives off to make slicing easier, without corotosis weave, it's just a blade.

Cannonly speaking, it wouldn't at all be a waste creating somewhat of a new weapons genre. it's not so different from the lightsaber, nor is it a totally different genre of armament.

So yes, there were a few who didn't undergo corotosis weave, they were called knives and swords, the end :)

  • @betheperson1 Cortosis weave is a protective outer casing, not a material to make the sword or whatever you think it is. What makes a vibroblade a vibroblade is a small emitter in the hilt that VIBRATES the blade, making basically any cut you get 5X more potent. A cortosis weave was used on (basically) all Vibroblades in the KOTOR timeline, which is the reason they didn't need a down graded version without it.

  • @betheperson1 Sorry, my mistake. Not an outer coating. It's fused with the metal.

  • @DarthNecros215

Cortosis weave, no matter what form it takes, is both the method used to create the outer casing and is the outer casing. for the emitter to actually activate, there has to be the outside casing of cortosis weave or else it would simply fall apart.

If they were to create a vibroblade without using cortosis weave, the emitter (as explained in wookipedia) wouldn't take effect as with the material used to make the blade isn't strong enough without cortosis weave.

  • @betheperson1 yes and no. A vibroblade has a magnetic lacing which basically gives it a forcefield. THAT is what stops the lightsaber... therefore, anything with that lacing can stop a lightsaber. and there are actually other materials which are resistant to it as well.

  • @Talusmade

    Exactly, cortosis weave.

  • you can make cold plasma and use that to cover hot plasma shoot it out a barrel and boom you have a plasma gun. much better than a laser.

  • soon kaku will invent somhting very cool and he would be the next einstien.

  • That blowtorch consumes about 2700W. That is alot for a blowtorch, but one single house consumes much more. Which makes the energy of the blowtorch ever more amazing. Or just the way we use our houses utterly ridiculus.

  • @David1531992 ..it's not a blowtorch... it's a plasma cutter. YES, there actually is a rather large difference, although their function is similar

  • @David1531992 I would totally agree with the Later.

  • If the plasma is confined using a magnetic field, as was suggested, then won't the interaction between the magnetic fields of two lightsabres create the physical clashing effect? Then you wouldn't need the solid ceramic core, which really goes against what Star Wars had in mind.

  • @m0ffx Star Wars never had reality in mind either. :P
