Congrats, she got accepted by the Fudan University in Shanghai, but I think that it is just the beginning. So years have passed, is there a sequel? No need to answer this question.
(3 Days away from the National College Entrance Exam) Narrative: Wang, Shen. a normal high school senior is going to take the exam like everyone else. Wang: We do so many tests everyday, and this is only English, and there are still Physics, Math, and Chinese. We need to memorize a lot of stuff everyday. Are these things really useful once we enter this society. So, for a closer goal, we do the prep. to enter a better college, but look farther, is it for our job?
I wish the vid had English subtitles. It looks very informative.
Many East Asian cultures and countries put a very heavy pressure on students to study study study. It's a wonder the youth don't have wrinkles and gray hair from all the stress.
The girl's not completely right. The purpose of the exam is to FILTER. Those who work hard, and are willing to work hard, can get to good schools. But only those who were born smart can go to the TOP schools.
By taking the exam, you're just trying to send a message to the colleges out there about how much you're willing to do to get there.
@NegativeNick Exactly. "Born smart" is just another way of saying "born into a wealthy family". It means nothing more than that. I used to believe that crap until I started to study really hard in university. Then all the people who were "born smart" seemed really stupid to me.
Thank you so much for Posting this documentary. Although I am a Chinese-American, I can truly appreciate the diligence of the Chinese students. I hope those of us in the U.S. can learn from this studious girl, and feel an appreciation for the American educational system.
