I went to Scotland last year. It was freezing and rained non-stop. The only food was haggis, deep fried Mars Bars and shortbread & everyone is fat. All the men are transvestites & the women look like men. I couldn't understand a word anyone said & everyone had false teeth. Most of Scotland is sparsely habited due to the midge plague. Most children have MS due to the appalling weather & the oldest person is 50-years-old. I couldn't sleep due to the 24-hour-a-day bagpipe playing. Avoid.
Well,I just found this and had to comment :) I live in Ireland, but my family's Russian. Ive done irish dancing and such, and ive been here for years now. And this is the first time EVER Im seeing such dance And ive got to say,its VERY impressive. There's ALOT of this Highland Fling videos and blah blah, and yourself and theese other three girls (together) are the most impressive i just say (:
This looks extremely impressive because i can imagine it takes much effort and great strength:)
Why do they always have one shitty bagpiper? Is it the same one in every video? He's got no sense of timing at all. Why not a full band? They'd also drown out the babbling idiots who make this gorgeous dance joyless to watch...
for SOBHD the ending can be one or two turns... I'm not sure about SDTA though. Most teachers don't like their students to do two turns in pre-premier until they gain control of their turns.
The SDTA has no control over the highland dances, they only issue a version of the National dances. The SDTA, BATD and UKA are all equivalent examining bodies under the SOBHD, which is the ONLY body that governs the technique of the four highland dances, and, according to their book, the ending can be one or two turns, even en the latest addition.
You're absolutely right--I thought of that after I wrote. In the same vein, the organisation in New Zealand also controls their highland dances. However, this dancer is in Canada, which is SOBHD, so only SOBHD rules apply, but you're right, I should have mentioned that!
i like the way you land on the last shedding turn in the last step. In the backstepping, it looks as it your heel is going to the side of the leg and you toes are at 3rd arial (spelling?) just make sure that they are fully at the front.
Watch your second positions. You have a lovely way of getting them out there but when you snap liek that and then come in for your landing you're stomping your WF into the ground thus creating a dabbing effect. So really watch that dabbing and you should do fine :D

Regarding Tartans. When I was a child Tartans were worn at a diagonal. Not as they are now being horizontal. Could anyone kindly tell me why?

The SOHDA does highland dances too... I have no knowledge of this organization so I cannot say if one or two turns are also acceptable.

Yes, the dancer in this video is an SOBHD dancer but 4EverGooners (who asked about the 2 turns) could be an SOHDA dancer... I have no idea lol

scottishdancer93 3 years ago
yup, im pretty sure you can vary it, but it must be the same within each step.. maybe im wrong?
baby12345 3 years ago
@baby12345 you can vary it as much as you want as long as you do the same within the step.

Think very light when tapping into second. Also your hands are a bit uneven! You have very good turnout. How old are you, love?
