  • From what I hear, THIS is how you properly show recent American history.

  • Ebert looks like the retarded one

  • my all time favourite movie of all time

  • On the siskel and ebert website, there is a full video of a 1994 special that Siskel and Ebert did called Why Gump, Why Now where there try to explain how Forrest Gump became the big hit it did, and this was before it walked away with the Oscar, check it out.

  • The movie says look even an idiot can become rich and famous without hardly trying in the USA. If your jobless and homeless it must be your fault.

  • this movie is for everyone. philosophers, historians, critics, everyday schmoes; even the KIDS love it! I first saw this when i was in fourth grade, and now i am a film critic in training

  • I think Forrest Gump is one of the greatest movie ever made.

  • Life is a Box of Chocolate. You never know what You gonna get.

  • Forrest Gump may have won Best Picture, but Pulp Fiction has held up today in terms of relevance and popularity.

  • @seanvogt221 So has Forrest Gump... Don't get me wrong, I loved Pulp Fiction and still do. However, Forrest Gump deserved the Oscar.

  • @seanvogt221 i agree

  • Here are my problems with this movie: People came out, saying how "Inspirational" it was. I'm sorry, how is a movie, about a strongly autistic person, inspiring? He didn't even know where he was half the time, I mean, he didn't care at all that he was in a friggin WAR. AND, how overrated this movie is. I mean, I liked this, but guys, it's not that great, I'm sorry, but it's not. And now people are thumbing me down for having a differing opinion. How accepting you all are! :)

  • @Jman92854 It just presents a quirky man with a low IQ, who triumphs over everything that pessimists are too negative to even attempt. He's dumb enough not to care what other people think, and constantly puts himself out there without risk of embarassment. It is inspirational because it inspires a positive outlook on optimism... I think thats like the definition of inspirational.

  • "I'm not a smart man." Runner up for movie understatement of all time. And it was fake on top of that b/c most retard or autistic sufferers don't really 'know' that they are not 'smart' I mean thats part of it, obvoiusly they think they are 'normal' &or like any1 else!! i mean the only way they could know is if some one TOLD them they are 'dumb' or lack intellect and any1 who has seen THIS movie KNOWS that, THATs not the case, his MOM KEEPS him thinking he is normal, o

  • @CubbieBear1980 hes smart enough to know hes not smart... is that some sort of absurd concept to you... perhaps someone that doesnt realize that hitting shift_7 for an ampersand takes more effort than typing out 'a-n-d' wouldnt understand.

  • It's kinda hard to believe that John Goodman was originally cast for the role. That was a close one Hollywood, no offense to JG.

  • One Of My FUCKING FAVORITE MOVIES Ever.

  • @TheWheels777 dude are you series

  • @TheWheels777 Then you must be completly retarded

  • @shandelear you mistaking this film with your mother again?

  • the moral of the story is to not think too hard and you'll come out alright because the American system is just so damn-well put together to benefit the common man or woman

  • @bloboshitful So what. Does that have anything to do with the review? No. Does that matter. Hell No!

  • I think Forrest Gump is one of the most quotable movies of all time

  • @kfsfkakf This, Scott Pilgrim, and Watchmen

  • @ECL28E Lets not forget Pulp Fiction lol

  • I agree it was just ridiculous that they twisted historical events by having him there.Absolute nonsense.

  • @jkshrout131 stop hating

  • @badboymd50 Make me.

  • @jkshrout131 your dum

  • ive always wondered, jenny died of aids, after she married forrest, so she either cheated on him or always had aids & in that case she would have given it to forrest and forrest jr.

  • @DXFan1269 Cheating on Forrest would not be out of character for Jenny... considering she is such an unreliable person throughout the movie. Of course, you can also get HIV by sharing needles.

  • @DXFan1269 she had aids before she married Forrest and had gotten it after she had little forrest

  • @DXFan1269 She was sick BEFORE marring him.

  • If I was stranded on a desert island and had to choose only one movie to watch, Forrest Gump would be it. It sends me on a whirlwind of emotions and leaves me with an honest moral: Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get. It's so profound and beautiful.

  • @ThePhantom135 why not castaway,it was about tom hanks on a deserted island

  • @thedesiredfart haha. nice. didn't see that coming. lol

  • life is like a box of chocolates... you never know what your gonna get. Maybe chocolates?

  • @convans4ever Yeah, I never got that metaphor either...

  • @convans4ever

Its whats inside the chocolates: not on the surface.

  • @DrChristianShepard I know but still, Chocolates is what you'll get >.>

  • I like it when they argue, but with this movie I am glad they agreed. Forrest Gump is an Awesome Movie.

  • Wait, the scenes with Nixon and Kennedy were used with special effects? All this time I thought those were actors not the presidents! Wow this special effects truly were amazing

  • 1994 was a great year for movies. Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption and this!

    Fantastic year for film!

  • Simply the most magical movie I've ever seen. I remember seeing it in the theaters when I was 11 and the first time I thought to my self "that was a great film" First time I realized what a Director did, what makes an amazing performance as an actor and realized film could be a work of art in story telling.

  • i thought this was a great family movie

  • I like the cookoos nest. Gump has one thing going for it, the cut and paste special effects. Other than that, not much, imho.

  • In the book, Gump gets high, has sex with lots of women, and says that the war was a crock of shit.

  • @milascave2 and one flew over the cuckoos nest was mostly in the indians point of view, the book that is, and i loved the movie more, somethings just work better differently

  • @milascave2 and goes in to space =)

  • @KissesLoveKawaii and is an autistic savant who aces an advanced physics class. And at the end he leaves home and starts a one man street band in New Orleans.

    Realy a different Gump,

  • #7 on my list of the year's best

  • this is one of the very few movies you can watch over and over and itll never get old

  • but you ain't got no legs lt. dane?! classic line..... damn right it is!

  • Great movie, but now the special effects aren't that special. The dubbing is kinda obvious, but still. Love it

  • also a beautiful overview of American History, great soundtrack and is not a happy go lucky film, it´s actually immensely sad for anyone not paying attention to all the deaths. really funny too and so many great lines. That´s my rant defending this film, though, Pulp Fiction still maybe was better cause of its originality and impact. though it was just a stacked year

  • those films aren´t way better. All are amazing, but this film is sheer genius. Deals with so many different issues: single parenthood, race and women´s rights, war, child abuse, drug abuse. It has strong religious undertones but not to spread a christian message but rather to show the importance to the character. Tom Hanks definitely deserved best actor too and all the others are great. he does an amazing job characterizing a less intelligent man that wants respect just like everyone else.

  • what the hell happened to Robert Zemeckis? People used to compare him to Spielberg! But the last ten years have been dreadful. He needs to get back to live-action!

  • how the hell did this film beat Pulp Fiction at the Oscars?

  • @austinthebookworm5 What about this film beating the Shawshank Redemption at the Oscars as well?

  • @YB71KV I know right? This movie is truly magical but "Shawshank" was a masterpiece but ultimately the best film of '94 was "Pulp Fiction".

  • @YB71KV

yeah it's a great film, but both Pulp Fiction & Shawshank are wayy better

  • Puh lease. Forrest gump = happy comfort food

  • You got new leyagz :D

  • Great movie..Even greater musical score...Gets ya right in the heart.

  • @WiseGuy5674 Agreed, not just the pop tunes, but the score in its entirety,

    Haunting....

  • easly my fav movie

  • So they're saying the IQ of collective America is 75? Can't really argue with that, I guess.

Lt. Dan is definitely Gary Sinise's best role.

  • Siskel and Ebert's reviews are like a box of chocolates... You never know whatcha gonna get.

  • @YouthEnergy Yes you do. One will love it, one will hate it.

  • @lewisner Which of them hated this movie?

  • @YouthEnergy In general I mean.

  • @YouthEnergy mabye........chocolates

  • 1:45-2:18

One of my favorite scenes in the movie

  • To answer Ebert's quandary about how the speech scene was executed, The Mall was partitioned into a grid, and the filmmakers would film an entire grid square filled with people, and then in post production that grid square of people was replicated to create the illusion of hundreds of thousands of people in The Mall around The Reflecting Pool. Thank God for DVD Extras, lol.

  • "Wha' don't you love me Jennay?"

That line just breaks my heart.

  • thats all i have to say about that

  • one of my favorite movies.

  • @juliusyeung0330 fuck this shit ass sentimental movie beat pulp fiction and shawshank redemption, wat has this fucking world come to?

  • @malows1234

what, so you think this movie is shit?

I think you're one of those assholes who only think conservatively.

this movie inspired a lot of people, it was funny and well told.

I had a great time watching this movie.

  • @juliusyeung0330 having a great time watching a movie and watching a great movie are 2 different things my friend. I had a great time watching avatar, but i wouldn't call avatar a great movie now would i? avatar is not a great film its an entertaining film, and forrest gump is just an entertaining film

  • @malows1234 so they're can't be any sentimental great movies. really makes a lot of sense. btw if u dont like it why r u watching the review just curious?

  • @AmericanIdols580 brooooooo, come on are u serioulsy going to tell me that forrest gump is not sentimental to a point that if ur watching with someone else, it just makes u feel embarrased? come on you know wat i am talking about, its so unrealisticly touchy feely.

  • @malows1234 yea man i get where ur comin from i don't agree man but i get where ur comin from. DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS EH?

  • @juliusyeung0330 What do you mean ONE of your favorites? There is no, and never shall ever be a movie even close to half as good as Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump is without a doubt the single greatest film of all time ever made!

  • @miamimagicians

In my opinion, the Godfather is the single greatest movie ever made. that movie is just epic

  • @juliusyeung0330 never watched those movies
