  • Or you can turn it on its side and let gravity help. Turn it on its side, press eject a few times. I have a Dell XPS and it took 2 presses of the eject button with the computer on its side (cd rom vertical) but it finally worked.

  • Thank you! You saved me at least £50. This trick works on Dell Studio 1555 laptops. The disc got scratched up but the drive is back to full working order. Very helpful video :)

  • YOU SAVED MY LIFE <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

  • Or you can just hit CMD space- search for terminal- hit terminal- type in drutil eject and hit enter! thumbs up so everyone can see!

  • @fregrence5 macs dont have CMD

  • @Folcation serch for terminal then, and type in drutil eject and hit enter it works, i promise!

  • @Folcation Yes they do, it's the apple key with the swirly symbol.

  • @moosefuel apple does not have the program command promt on it.

  • @Folcation No, but they do have the CMD key, which is what fregrence5 was referring to. You assumed fregrence5 meant the CMD prompt, when he or she was referring to the CMD key.

  • lol nice

  • I tried it a couple of times and couldn't get it out. Then I put the cards in and hit the eject button at the same time and it came right out! Thank you!

thanks again U are a cleaver dude!!! love U kid.

  • doesnt work for me >_< (mac os x 10.6 snow leopard)

  • Step 1.Restart your computer

Step 2.While the system is booting or you have enter into your acc

Step 3.if you have mouse just hold it press for 5 sec.

This will tell the mac to force jack the CD

  • Wow this not only works for the iMac I just tried this with a stuck cd that was in my Buick Lacrosse! Great job man you saved me alot of time taking the dash down to remove it!!

  • @Escobar411 haha, snaps -- that's awesome!

  • i'm so glad this video is still helping people! everyone who said "thank you" - you're welcome!

  • well that saves like $400

  • Interesting trick, but there is also an force eject button next to the optical drive. Just stick a paper clip inside the little hole on the right side of the optical drive. But that may not work if the ejection motor inside the drive is no longer working.

  • Amazing. I can't believe that worked. I've had that CD stuck in my drive for ages. I've only just been trying to remove it now I want to reinstall windows. I used it on my Dell XPS M1330.

  • thanx a million man !

  • MAN!!!! ur great...!! thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

feelin much better nw!! damm thanks alot!

  • This video does not apply to iMacs from 2009 and on.

  • Got it! Same deal cd was spinning and none of the drutil tray eject fixes would do it. Had to physically slow down and stop the cd and thenwhile helping the CD with the two card pushing eject and the same time and finally got it out and that CD went straight to the round file! Thanks!

  • WTH you can do this by a boot key after the chime you idiot

  • i got my cd inside!but 1 question does the drive cause any bad effects for this kind of process?thanks!

  • @dlove9998 haha, damn - wish you were rich! :)

  • @dlove9998 Better method with all macs when you start up is to press command or apple, then left click and hold till the disk ejects

  • wow . i thought mac never stuck .

  • thanks alot it works

  • Simpler Method: Restart computer while holding down the primary mouse button. You must do this before you press the on button. The cd will eject, without the possibility of being scratched by the gift cards.

  • @weinerschnitzelboy this is for when that doesn't work

  • @weinerschnitzelboy

    you are genius!!!!

    thank you very much!!

it was the only way to remove it !!!

  • thnx so much man omg my sister was gonna kill me if she found out!!!!!!!!!

  • wow you guys are sooooooo stupid

use the manual eject button on the side of the cd drive with a paper clip

    dumb ass!!!!!

  • @Halfun1995 this imac doesn't have one, thanks for your input though

  • LOL This used to ALWAYS happen to me! LOL

  • two cards one mac

  • ghetto much?

  • this is awesome and works!! thanks!!

  • Thank you so much this worked perfectly. I had tried everything!

  • It fucking works thanks

  • it's funny they solved this issue on the PS3.

i have two 4 year old PS3 and they have seen more discs than u could ever trow at an iMac DV and it still works perfectly!

my imac dv drive broke after 2 years, really shoddy quality drive even compared to a now $299 game console...

which i also bought (ps3 slim)

  • lol nice

  • I'll give it a shot!!!!! Why don't you guys stop being a bunch of "Player Haters". PC makes good shit and So does Mac!!!! Don't get all fucking personal about it! Drives me crazy! Your like a bunch of fucking rednecks arguing over Chevy and Ford!!! Unless you computer gave birth to you or you gave birth to it!!!! I don't see the point in having so much pride in something you had absolutely nothing to do with. Except getting raped on the cost when you bought the damn thing!!!!

  • @989Tbird LOL rednecks... the original fanboys

  • thank you thank you thank you...you helped me remove the cd from my dell laptop!!genious..!

but unfortunately..a memory card was placed by mistake inside my slot cd drive before the cd..and when the cd finally got in...it got jammed of course..! snif..now i got out the cd but I can't really locate where the memory card has gone..i guess i will need a technician..if someone knows how I can deal with it,feel free to share your advice!!

  • you kan also try this:

restart your mac and than press the option key and release the button when an grey screen apearse and than press the dvd/cd remove key ;)

  • @PEPsiMAXextreem wouldn't work in this case, and when there is a thick label on cd or optical drive is broken

  • Or get a PC and not have to deal with that :P

  • yes you solve a cd problem and you get a thousand

    sofware problems, good thinking.

  • Lol mac user X3

  • @WULFY1993 all computer manufactures use the same brand optical drives.

  • @bcometa in an optical drive in a pc you have that little hole where you can stick a needle in and -holy shit- the cd comes out! ;)

  • @bcometa haha suck again bitch ass trolling Piece o' Chit

  • @bcometa he got pwned

  • but pcs come with an eject button

  • @WULFY1993 poor boy

  • @WULFY1993 haha suck again bitch ass trolling Piece o' Chit

  • @WULFY1993 well cuz pcs really suck ass and r slow and it is more expensive when u have to upgrade it

  • wow! but we have no mac.

  • wots the name of the app with the icon that is on the far right side of the screen at 0:07

  • software update

  • thank you!!!!!!

  • Very clever!!

  • when i put the card in there, the cd is still turning and making weird sounds. Also i can't get the cd to stop because im trying to fix a cdj 400 =/

  • @mechwarreir2 try same process at startup, but while holding down mouse button

  • @bcometa this really works mate....

  • okay, i cant get the cards in.

    does that happen to everyone?

like this metal thing comes up?

and you have to wait for it to go down, and then quickly try.

or is that a bigger issue?

  • I used this on a macbook where space around the disk is possibly more limited than on an imac, a plastic card on the bottom with a piece of cardboard on top, together managed to slide the disc out

  • thanks so much this was the only way I could get a rented dvd out on time, was freaking out until I found this

  • Awesome. Worked like a charm!

  • IT WORKED! THANKS MUCH

  • Didn't work for me. I have an XPS M1530. The slot-loading drive is working but the laptop doesn't recognize the drive. So the drive is able to lock and spin the cd, but the eject button doesn't work. It's going to be a hell of a job to get this one out!

  • Look up how to do a force eject on bootup.

  • hold the mouse button on boot

  • dude that was a freakin life saver

    worked perfect...thanks!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice! But one must be carefull not to get the cards broken or stuck inside as well!

  • Thank u so much............ it worked for my Dell XPS M1330 as well... really thanks

  • Thanks so much! It worked for me too! It was a small CD-ROM that was stuck in my Macbook.

  • thanks soooo fucking much, saved my life ::D :D :D :D

  • Tanks a lot! Worked like a charm!

  • Thanks man, You saved me a trip to the Apple retail store! Legend!

  • thank you!!!! :D

  • dude ur a genius u saved my life literally ur amazing thank u so much for this awesome vid dude

  • You dont have to do this. You can restart your mac then as soon it turns off hold the clicker that will tell you if the cd is the problem.

  • man you saved my life!!!!thanks

  • I hate the fact that you have to drag the cd to the trash to make it eject no the button never works

  • lol

  • YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH YOU SAVED MY LIFE. HAHA. This trick managed to get out one of those small discs from my macbook pro. Little bro was sure glad i didnt kill him for even attempting to put one in!.

PUT THE CARDS IN THE LEFT HAND SIDE - LESS LIKELY TO DAMAGE THE LAPPY!

  • lol .27 it is giving a raspberry lol

  • i'm very happy this video has been so helpful to people!! yah!

  • Nice man!!!

  • You have no idea how much this helped me.....Steve Jobs could not have done it better!

  • you sir, are an absolute hero. Thank you.

  • I stand corrected about the usefulness of this vid. But there is a hole if the problem is a jammed CD rather than the motor failing to eject the CD.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH [;

  • Thanks! :)

  • Dude... Thank you so much for making this! I was going to bring my laptop to the mac store for them to remove the darn thing but your video just possibly saved me some money =] THANKS!

  • Thank you for this great idea. As mine was small CD that got stuck in XPS M1330, I had to use a enveloped sized cardboard which triggered the eject mechanism. Voila. Problem solved.

  • thanks man. I tried so many different things to get stuck dvds out of my imac......you may have saved my toddler (who jammed THREE dvds in the slot) from certain death:)

  • hahah, glad i could save your child's life :)

  • lol that is awful... I think I accidentally put two cds in my tray a few days ago.......

  • @vhudman78 WOW is that even possible?

  • worked like a charm! thanks, you saved me a lot off pain

  • Nice job! This worked like magic!

  • Genius! I just used this trick on my Dell XPS M1330 to remove a mini-CD! I had to stick in the cards almost all the way in to reach the mini-CD, but it worked! THANKS!!!

  • LMAO! me too i have the same laptop! My friend misunderstood my question online when I asked if u could put one in...guess not!

  • Thank you SO MUCH, you saved me!!!

  • thanks veri much 4 postin this. reli helped me out. =)

  • I wonder if this would work with a mini cd stuck in a macbook :\ I'm worried the cd is farther in though...

  • Or it'd just be easier to stick the end of a paperclip in the hole on the right hand side of the slot........

  • there isn't a hole, wise guy

  • IT's right there on the left... look closely-- or call Apple and they'll tell you hahaha... I hate people that use Macs and don't know wtf they are doing

  • wtf? I am on a macbook and there is no hole. Go dig a hole ...

  • Haha A hole so you can fall in it?? Hey Tard Biscuit- this video is for an older model iMac with a front slot loader, not a freakin old ass macbook!!! WTF are YOU talking about??? OH and BTW< there IS a pinhole on those old models, TOO-- call your apple rep!

  • of course the paperclip is the desired method for removing a stuck cd. but when the optical drive doesn't get power, this is not an option.

  • turn off the fucking power first mate !!!!

  • damn! not working. good idea tho.

  • Nice one man, very useful
