well the ipod classic uses a metal front case , and the video has a plastic, so that is a difference , but minor between the two.

Yeah I actually prefer the new aluminum front case over the old plastic, the plastic scratches way to easily.

No this method does not, however i have a method on my new account (please subscribe to it) on installing super cool custom themes on the 30gb ones, with that method you an use wine to make it work on mac osx.

lol i had the same prob preety simple to fix u let the ipod restart over and over agin till battery completely drains power then replug it back into ur coumptuer hen when u see the battery critacly low u hold the menu and middle button then that puts u into disck mode then ur coumpter can find ur ipod then open itunes then restore then tada ur ipod is back to normal hope this was a big help for all of the viewers and yourself! =D

firs i got 5g firmware on my ipod 5.5gb and it wos not working.after that i restored my ipod and got 5.5gen for ipod 5.5gen and now its work well .thanks a lot author.i got classic ipod software on my ipod video .its easy if you know . good luck everybody .

That is a hardware issue, if you haven't had it for too long, then the apple warranty should take care of it! Just take it to the apple store and show them what's going on.

There's a different firmware yes, but the casing is MUCH different. The thickest iPod 5G/5.5G is thicker than the 160GB 6G iPod classic. The case is also plastic on the front of the 5G iPod, when the iPod classic is an anodized aluminum front.

Yeah it will work on all 5G and 5.5G models. Just make sure you get the firmware appropriate for you iPod.

You should've mentioned all the differences anyway, because some people might think the anodized aluminium front is really important, it doesn't scratch as easily, and the back is polished and stronger. AND, that interface is very different from the actual one, which previews your current selection. Don't download this unless you want your warranty/service voided. It's unattractive, you can tell Apple didn't make it. Wait for a seventh generation to come out, or for your 5th generation to die.

u forgot the main difference in the 2 and that is that the new classic is all metal,whereas the older model is mostly plastic

well they both use a good amount of metal, to be more specific the new one uses (pretty much) all aluminum, which is why it has it's appearance. Although this was a good point to make, i don't think that this is a reason to update, i wasn't really trying to tell all the differences, i was just trying to prove that the differences are not big enough for a change in UI to not be acceptable in the older models (I felt the shell was not relevent, but you do bring up a good point).

yeah i have the 5.5 generation but im having trouble with my i pod. i downloaded and tried pretty much all the software they have. well with ipod wizard it keeps on telling that i cant access my ipod because itunes is using i tried connecting my ipod without itunes but so far it isnt working. How can i open the ipod`s drive but without opening itunes. But i dont want to unistall itunes.

Go to the task manager (control+alt+delete), then make sure all itunes apps are closed (including: itunes.exe, ituneshelper.exe, ipodservice.exe, etc)

then try write to iPod.
