very nice voice and great basic technique i hope you are studying. your sound is plenty heady just lighten it up a bit so the vibrato spins faster and more freely. you seem to have good support aswell keep it up man im impressed
Dang! That's a tough aria to sing my friend! Wonderful job! My biggest tip for you is to watch where you are placing your vowels. I felt like some parts seemed to have like a swallowed sound while others sounded great. Try doing some exercises to get your sound to place into the top of your head. Remember, you sing from the top of your head and your diaphragm. NEVER from your throat! ;)
thats silliness considering all sound is produced in the throat by the vocal folds not in the forehead. you simply want low breath and open sinus space. the support keeps the weight off the chords, i know what you are saying, but be careful with that advice because you can feel top of the head sensations and have horrible technique thats the same advice my first teacher gave me but it took another teacher with a background in speech pathology to fix the damage from that. feelings can fool you.
Also watch the body, lips, and tongue movement, which can be best witnessed with focus by turning the sound off the video. The more stable (but not rigid) your body, the more energetically your voice will flow. Allow your tongue to rest, rather than curl back, so as to free the throat. Let your jaw drop and your lips to move only enough to crisply tap consonants, you can float the voice. I hope this is helpful, my friend. I pass this on from my coach, who studied Mozart with Gedda. Bravo, Scott!
Nice job on this tough aria. Your voice is rich with wonderful sonorities, which allows you much strength. You said "phew' at the end of the video, which seems to accompany a sense of, wow that was tough work. Be careful, especially on Mozart, to sing from the light, top-down, otherwise weight will creep to make the voice heavy.
Thanks Tim...I posted this quite some time ago. Things are getting vocally better, (If I do say so myself!) Congrats on your tenor debut. It's a scary, fun transition. Still getting there...Keep up the good work. That's the secret, working hard at it, every frickin' day.
Hi Scott, I am of Brazil. Incredible your voice, congratulations. I think that to sing without attendance is still more difficult and you were excellent.Hi Scott, I am of Brazil. Wow... are you training with anyone? You have such a natural placement as it is, keep up with this. Wow... lol this is just amazing for such a random video ya know? Great work, keep going and you could be working in some major houses.
Thanks so much! Gosh, I've not even looked at these videos in so long. I'm working with a truly superb teacher here in NYC, and he's guiding me the right way. I'm getting some roles under my belt, and, I'd say, (hopefully) this time next year, I'll be out there working. We'll see.... Thanks for your words. They help a lot!
Quite an acoomplishment for one hard tenor aria to do beautifully and done acapella to boot! You are definitely, definitely a tenor. I was in your same situation...baritone who transitioned to tenor. I could never do this aria well. You have a beautiful voice. Keeping singing. I stopped to go to med school. Still dream of singing sometime (just casually. Hope to hear more in the future!
Hey Scott:)I used 2sing w/U @ Pacific Opera(uptown). I'm in the same situation as U...I'm also a tenor singin' Baritone! I'm very impressed w/U'r tenor singin'!!! Is it because U have a great teacher or U'r voice has just developed into it w/time? Whatever 'tis U'r doin', I want in:) I'd love 2catch up w/U & chat more 'bout this breakthrough of yours! No question 2me U'r a tenor buddy! R U pretty familiar w/Max Lorenz? I'd like 2hear U live. Keep it up:)
where is the accompaniment? you are too close to the mic, my speakers almost blew up, but.....since this is one of the hardest aria on earth, I am giving you 10 stars, check out my opera stuffs. BRAVO!
Bravo, bravo! This is my favorite Mozart aria, and with the right stage and opportunity, you'll do it as much justice as Kaufmann. Please follow your dream and thank you for letting us be a small part of it already.
Nice voice, but you're using some bad technique. The tongue root is pressing down on your larynx, causing a forced sound and making everything sound too strident and fatigued. Work on warming up with some tongue trills, etc. to release some of that tongue tension. Nice voice!
Thank you so much Florena! Hello from NYC! A salut back to you. Oh yes...I have some big plans for my voice. Thank you for writing and saying hi. It's very special to get a message from Romania's opera. :)
Bravo!!!!!! There are some personal issues I have with tempo, but those are mine. This was far more beautiful than I thought it would be! Very very very fine job!
Cool! Please post it. It's not a competition. ;) That's a great thing about Mozart in particular I think, there's a LOT of room for interpretation. The music and the meter and the notes have to stay in place, but everything else, color, dynamic, shape...that's all your own. Sing out man! :) Thanks for stopping by.
Very nice, natural voice. Hope you have a good teacher to guide you and help you perfect you technique. Very good top, but sometimes you are a little bit raspy in the lower middle, so be careful and not sing the top so "open". Best of luck to you!
Thanks soo much for commenting :) The thing about these videos- none of it is a "final product". It's all a work-in-progress thing, ya know? But it's easy to think of it as a done deal. Oh I'm just getting my tenor "sea legs" wet here. I've got a long road :) Thanks again for saying hi and your good words.
Thanks so much for commenting. See, the very first impressions are these arias I am putting on YouTube. But I have been singing baritone rep for years now. Just now, when I've turned 32, is my voice truly going in the direction of tenor. It's ok, I've learned, to be in between voices. The voice goes where it takes us, we just have to make sure we care for it. Best of success to you! Let's get out there and sing!
Okay, you're definitely a tenor and with hard work, who knows? Please listen to Pavarotti sing this, especially the version with Levine at the piano. Listen to how he modifies the vowels around the passagio, starting with that perfect F-sharp on "al cor porgera". And his high A's are perfectly "turned" on "un dolce.." Remember, you don't sing higher by raising your larnyx. Watch yourself and listen and you'll see what I mean.
I think this pretty not-so-great. Not terrible for the 7th time I've sung it in life, but, check back, good people, in a month or so. I'm going to re-post after having worked on it...let's see what happens...:)
WOW! You are amazing! How did you develop such a good vibrato? I am 15 and am really trying to develop a full chest resonance in my voice!

I can't figure out why you think you are a baritone? You are definitly a tenor there is no question in my mind.
I think you sang great. I am also a singer (try to be) and i am doing this piece myself. I find it very difficult.
If you wander whether you are a baritone or a tenor then you should have listened to me. I am really in between voices i tell you.
