Are you not american? Or at least no where near NY? Because I got a lot of your signs, but they mean wayy different things to me. But that would be easily explained if you're not from the northern US.
nevermind the critics. This is Beautiful!!! The expressions are great. And ASL SHOULD be an interpretation of the emotion. Not just a stiff accurate motion to each and every word. This is Perfect. GREAT JOB YOU TWO !!
when i heard this song for the first time i felt that in the chorus Adele actually meant that she would never find anyone like him and not that she did not care about him. but here the expressions are telling differently. i don't know... maybe is the way she sings. but i really think that when she says "nevermind i'll find some like you" she is not minimizing the relationship AT ALL. -i apologize if i'm confusing with my writing, i'm not a native English speaker-
@jaboncitolux good points, and I can see what you mean . We took the song to be very emotional and signed in accordance with the strong emotions. But everyone's got thier own interpretations... :)
@jaboncitolux .. i agree to that... lol but if u look at what they saying it makes sense of them signing.. but i see ur point of when he said nevermind.. ill find somone like you.. but he should have made it in another signing for it beside nevermind... cuz it didnt sound right with the song.. but idk.. but i love the song and also the signing.. so im not companing about it:)
@jaboncitolux I am a native English speaker and I also understand the chorus to be far less defiant and more resigned and sad. Beautiful video though! :)
I'm not crying >.> Yea I am. That was so beautiful your NMS was perfect for each sentence, and I could keep up with you very easily though I'm just learning.
"Hurt" might not be signed correctly like some of you are saying (probably because of the heart shape they make) but i think they add more meaning with they make a heart and then sign hurt. It adds emotion and shows exactly where the hurt is. The description says it is more metaphorical than signed English. I thought it was beautiful! Thanks so much.
Solid gloss, expression, and performance. Be careful to always sync up the video and audio very precisely. It's especially tough when cutting together separate segments as you did here, but it's worth the effort. If the video is unsynced, you lose a ton of the musicality and rhythm matching that goes with songsigning.
Work on it for future videos. I still thoroughly enjoyed this! :)
Ignore the haters. Signed English is fine, but what you did was beautiful. Pure ASL. I strive to sign like you guys. Absolutely perfect. I couldn't find a better video in you-tube. it is excellent.
Why are people saying that they signed the song wrong? They didn't go by the book, which is the point of ASL. If you go by the book good luck actually talking to someone from the deaf community fluently.
Brilliant guys! loved it! your interpretation is Awesome! I sign Auslan, and even though you are getting particularly odd remarks - keep going of course!
I love how people who dont even know ASL are so critical of song interpretations, the videos are to be enjoyed by the ASL community, not to be used as a learning tool for someone is high school ASL or to be critiqued by someone who barely knows ASL
if you take a sign language class before making a rude comment... you'd know that the emotion of how your feeling, or the song, should show in your face. so since the song is.. sad, i guess you could say he had an unpleasent look on his face rather than a happy one
I absolutely loved this. It's inspiritional. (: Do you think I could get the glossed out translation of you signing the verse that starts with her singing "Nothing compares, no worries or cares." Your translation of that verse? (: You can message me if you like.
its not being signed wrong, as a deaf person who signs, trust me. In music when signing, words can change to interpret the song better to fit the person. ITS AN INTERPRETATION, stop hating on it, I think you guys did a great job.
Beautiful interpretation! My friends and family also found this quite injoyable. Thank you for taking the time to make and post it for all of us here in YouTube land! Keep up the good work! Peace.
@Bayfree102 I know you would rather have the maker of this video explain why but I think he is trying to say "in the future"...simular sign but in a different location. I am sure you figured this out in keeping with the lyrics of the song. However, as I am sure you also know, one has to keep it all in contect of what is being said. Some of my friends (deaf) who go very fast do the same thing. I noticed those making music videos in ASL do the same thing. I hope this helps. Peace.
AHA!! Im learing ASL and I actually understood almost all of your guys' signs! I feel so accomplished. Ive been learing for almost 5 months without a teacher :) PS this is fantastic you got a new subscriber!
I understand just as in diiferent regions of the Country, that we speak "diffeent" dialects of english; however, no ASL books or videos show any of this. Hurt was not shown properly, etc. For people such as myself trying to learn for my partner, this only confuses one further :/
@bitsofus While I appreciate your perseverance for learning sign language, I would not recommend using these ASL music videos to learn. They are to enjoy. If we signed each sign we use in this video the "mechanical, robotic way," it would not look right, or flow with the song. "Hurt" changes always, depending on WHERE you are hurting, etc. So it never will be the same. It's an interpretation-- there are many points of view on how to sign songs. This is ours. Thanks though.
@chillphil27 I did enjoy this video very much, and thanks for sharing. I am getting a much better understanding. I apologize if I seemed unappreciative.
@bitsofus ASL is to be interpreted; meaning that the person signing it - is in fact translating it into their own. If you are just learning its understandable that you would be confused. Word for word english to sign language is Signed English or Pidgen Sign (mix of English sign and ASL). Dont worry it gets less confusing and ASL music vids are not the place to learn vocab but to see how people interpret English into ASL.
I liked this. I liked the conceptuality in certain parts, like during "I couldnt stay away" and 1:50-2:18. Not only was it creative sign morphing, but it was conceptual as well, which is hard for hearing people. I feel like you might have dropped some of the context and over conceptualized a bit, but i could see that if you were going for metaphorical. I liked it for a performance, maybe not if you were actually "interpreting" it. It was a little English in parts too. But you had AWESOME spots!!
@LUVMYBF23 yea i kno so what i did was on tha parts i didnt really understand i just used someone else's way of dong that part and do it there way and this way also i just looked up some of the words online and figured out how to do it sign it
Gorgeous song and beautiful performance you guys rock! I love when someone can not only sign ASL but also put it into a story as well. The chorus really makes this performance great you feel it a lot! GREAT JOB!
@chillphil27 - oh good. Thanks for the clarification. I was interpreting kinda the same way, like, "the new girl gave you things that I can't measure up to". Thanks for the beautiful videos. Keep it up.
@Vietrill Its a scale tipping.... one side is higher/better than the other... Here she is comparing herself to the other girl, so she puts her lower hand near her self for association...
@jaytalex10 Yeah. I totally see that. I am actually planning to sign this song with a friend of mine at a sign performance we do at our school. I think it would be fun to play around with that sign.
This was absolutely beautiful you guys! Do you mind me asking what region your from? ASL seems to differ from region to region and I'm trying to learn and want to make sure I'm imitating something that will be understood where I am.
Are you not american? Or at least no where near NY? Because I got a lot of your signs, but they mean wayy different things to me. But that would be easily explained if you're not from the northern US.
