I have never seen a fire built like this. I done a wooden platform and then the fire. I like how this works. As the ashes, just cover them up with the dirt when done. A good way to cook over it. I agree that once the fire starts it needs to be fed with Sharp edges. Thank you for showing this for us. Can't wait to try this soon. Maybe in the mtns in Colo in April.

problem # 1 starting a ''smokeless'' fire with green wood is a no no, # 2 started it on top of the ground when it should have been started in the hole, # 3 holding pan up with wood directly over the flames which will catch fire when they dry out enough and then dump your pot into the fire - its worth the time and effort to do the tripod to hold the pot just above the hole/fire, ; Note: the puck from that dead log would be better to use to start a fire,

Here is a little tip for the next time you try this. Start your fire in one pit and then blow down into the same pit. Aim your breath into the sideways tunnel instead of blowing into the one without the fire. Use the empty pit as a chimney. The fire will burn sideways into the empty chamber allowing for more efficient burning of your fuel (wood). This is very similar to the way a rocket stove works. I suggest you give it another shot and see what you think. Be Safe Bro...Later

Thanks for the Vid, i've been looking for someone actually using a tomahawk to split wood, a good technique to use though when splitting like that, is to actually baton the tomahawk head into the wood since its lighter then an axe and doesn't have the weight to drive itself into the wood
