This was probaly the best high school football game I ever watched, both teams were very very talented. I was rooting for St. X. But I will admit, lakeland was the better team. They were fast and diciplined. But i do think that the year after this X was much better than the 06 lakeland team. But still, both teams are very very talented

Lakeland had a HUGE disadvantage that game. It was a completely hostile environment with Ohio fans outnumbering Lakeland 250:1 most likely. St. X probably had a 14 point advantage in that stadium.

To answer your question ohio teams are so good because the football in the state is so competitive. We dont play teams we can beat 60-0 or have teams that win state titles for like 25 years straight. Lakeland may have won in overtime but had that game been played at Lakeland, a collegiate stadium in Florida, or at a more neutral field this game wouldn't have been close. i know this game got played at Cincinatti Bearcats stadium but it still served as homefield advantage for St. X due to the fact that it was easy travel support to all of its fans. 95% of that crowd was for St. X and that is what still makes it homefield advantage!

Carrier in hs football I'd say having a game against an out of state team traveling a couple thousand miles is worth about 14 for the home team. Besides Lakeland who was pretty much a one dimensional team last year, Floridas elite teams havent been the ones playing out of state games. Armwood, Pahokee, Booker T Washington, and St Thomas Aquinas are elite programs that no one outside of Florida has seen.

After that are states like Ohio, Georgia, and Louisiana. Ohio is not on Florida's level in terms of producing talent. Not even close. Looking at NFL rosters, there are 211 CA players. 181 from TX, and 173 from FL. Ohio is 4th with 85.

This was probaly the best high school football game I ever watched, both teams were very very talented. I was rooting for St. X. But I will admit, lakeland was the better team. They were fast and diciplined. But i do think that the year after this X was much better than the 06 lakeland team. But still, both teams are very very talented

That Lakeland team had the Pounceys, Ahmed Black, and Chris Rainey. All in the top 100 recruits for their year. No way was St. Better, even in the following year.
Lakeland had a HUGE disadvantage that game. It was a completely hostile environment with Ohio fans outnumbering Lakeland 250:1 most likely. St. X probably had a 14 point advantage in that stadium.
But Lakeland won through. Because that Lakeland team was unbeatable and because they weren't back to back national champs for nothing.

If Rainey wasn't trying to showboat the whole game Lakeland would have blown them off the field like everyone else. Lakeland only played a handfull of close games over those 3 years. The goal line stands vs Niceville and St. Thomas immediately come to mind but that is besides the point. The fact remains Lakeland was UNBEATABLE those seasons. A 60 game regular season winning streak followed up a year later by a new 45 game winning streak. You think you could beat Lakeland? Stop kidding yourself.

To answer your question ohio teams are so good because the football in the state is so competitive. We dont play teams we can beat 60-0 or have teams that win state titles for like 25 years straight. No matter how good a team is one year, its always a battle no matter what. Ohio Divison 1 can compete with anyone...oh wait they already have,this year our best teams beat all of their out of state competition.

Lakeland traveled a couple thousand miles for this game, that has a large effect on 17 and 18 year olds. Bring St X to Florida and the result would be a Lakeland blowout. Lakeland did the same thing on pretty much every play and was good enough to win state in Florida 5A an extremely hard thing to do.

Georgia may not have a lot of top ranked teams in the nation but according to espn. com they rank as the number 4 highschool football state because they produce a good amount of the top 150 prospects. they produce more top 150 prospects than Ohio does. However Ohio's top highschool teams may beat Georgia's top teams.

Lakeland may have won in overtime but had that game been played at Lakeland, a collegiate stadium in Florida, or at a more neutral field this game wouldn't have been close. i know this game got played at Cincinatti Bearcats stadium but it still served as homefield advantage for St. X due to the fact that it was easy travel support to all of its fans. 95% of that crowd was for St. X and that is what still makes it homefield advantage!

Wrong. Lakeland had almost its entire side filled up. Out of all the teams that travelled to Cincinnati to watch their out-of-state teams play, Lakeland had by far the most fans. They even brought that train horn thingy! It was nowhere near 95% Ohio fans. Maybe 60-40 or 70-30.
Also, somoene else said that Lakeland wasn't a top team? Didn't they win the national title the year before playing St. X and were ranked the #1 team in the country coming into the game?

Carrier in hs football I'd say having a game against an out of state team traveling a couple thousand miles is worth about 14 for the home team. Besides Lakeland who was pretty much a one dimensional team last year, Floridas elite teams havent been the ones playing out of state games. Armwood, Pahokee, Booker T Washington, and St Thomas Aquinas are elite programs that no one outside of Florida has seen.

@cainepittman2 Florida has five schools in the Max Preps Top 25. Ohio has one. There are three big HS football states and that's FL, TX, and CA. It's because of population. After that are states like Ohio, Georgia, and Louisiana. Ohio is not on Florida's level in terms of producing talent. Not even close. Looking at NFL rosters, there are 211 CA players. 181 from TX, and 173 from FL. Ohio is 4th with 85.
