@PeppiBle yep that's exactly what they see, this is actually the only video it seems where the camera is exactly at the drivers eye level i wish they could figure away to use THIS camera and not anything ontop of the helmet or where ever because this is the only true representation of what they see
@iloveneytiri They are trialing it in gp2, though this type from inside the visor is quite intrusive, so it would probably be on the outside of the the helmet on the side
F1 should have those rotating cameras on top of the car like they have in Indycar. It's fantastic to see overtakes and/or crashes from onboard the car, especially when you can rotate the camera to exactly where it happened. Whoever came up with that idea for Indy is a genius
This is by far the best perspective I have seen from onboard F1 footage. It gives you a near perfect eye level perspective that the driver sees. Too bad there arent more videos out there like this one.
This view should be included in F1. It doesn't have to add much weight. You can do this with fiber optic cameras run into the helmet through the Hans device. Those are commonly used in the medical field and can be HD. It would just take a little engineering but they should definitely do it because it is an amazing view and would look absolutely fantastic on TV.
@Garrison64 I think the reason it's not as commonly found is because of the impact it would have on the drivers neck when considering the g forces at work. It would create a bit of unwanted stress on the driver, not trying to sound like I know a ton revolving around physics or anything just my thoughts.
@skaught911 Modern microcams barely weigh anything. But the best way would be through a fiber optic umbilical tied in through the Hans device which is already connected to the helmet anyway. The actual camera wouldn't even have to be in the helmet, just a slinder fiber optic cable. It's the same technology used in surgical procedures today and can produce a very clear image. But either way it would add practically nothing to the weight of the helmet.
@Garrison64 Oh sorry I failed to mention that I was really implying on the stress on the driver's neck while enduring G forces which would increase the stress exponentially. The other half I would looking at from an aerodynamics point of view, even a slight added amount of resistance from the wind would also add a tremendous amount of stress. I completely agree with you on the fiber optics though, would definitely be the best quality picture and almost next to nothing in weight. Cheers
@Kw12345ff What are you talking about? I'm not talking about a video game. I'm talking about using this camera view in real F1. This is a video of the real driver if you didn't happen to notice.
@Garrison64 The reason they don't do it is because other teams can easily see what the other drivers are doing with their fuel management, revs and balance from the TV feed.
@Garrison64 They attempted it on Sebastian Vettel but because everytime he got in and out of the car they have to hookup the camera to the system it got a bit of a pain.
@wilki2208 Hook up before race starts, Unhook after race ends. How hard could it be? I'm sure the mechanicals of it aren't what's holding it back. Some genius engineer can always figure a way around things like that if they really want to do it.
I'd say it;s a weight issue that means the drivers don't use these cameras. I;d say they need an ultra lightweight camera that is mandatory for all drivers.
It's amazing how little F1 drivers see the track and still drive so fabulous.

i would love if they had helmet cam in f1. especially in monaco!

they should place it on the top center of the visor. then we could actually see what the driver is seeing.
btw come back to f1 soon kubica

The best part of this video is that it's right on the eyeline (or at least very close), which shows what it's like actuallt being in an F1 car.
