I adore high male voices -- it's wonderful to hear such a perfect counter voice, and to hear the classical high male voices accepted and celebrated again. It's also lovely to hear the finest of these voices appreciate the value of popular music, the ONLY place where the very good high male voices have been celebrated for the last 100 years.

People are so strange -- they'll sing along to Neil Sedaka in the car without comment, and then act like Scholl is some strange, unique vocal event. :-)

well Andreas Scholl IS a uniqe vocal event! Counter tenors are not that uncommon but an amazing counter tenor like Andreas, is. The high male voice has pretty much always been accepted in the world of classical music, but everyone thinks Freddy Mercury and Mika a bit weird. Neil Sedaka does indeed sing high but i dont think his falsetto screams are comparable to the amazing rich voice of Andreas Scholl.

It´s an aria in Händel´s opera "Serse". A very beautiful one too, and a sure milestone in the lyric repertoire. You can find many versions here on Youtube, including Scholl´s. Enjoy.
