It wasn't a bug, when you went through candle cove, it couldn't work because it wasn't lit. So it went to the closest, namely north shore. When you lit it, they were linked again.

Zeta, the reason why Candle Cove portal led to Northshore portal was because you DIDN'T LIGHT CANDLE COVE'S PORTAL.

I found a random portal in the Nether upon my exploration of it, and had to tunnel through the ceiling to make it there. Then I had to make a huge cobblestone staircase and walls just to reach it, and it turns out it led to a cave with tons of iron and so far 6 diamonds! ...although where or how deep this mystery cave is, I have no idea

@CoreOptics Add Water to a Lava Spring. It forms one block of Obsidian. Note, not a Lava FLOW, a Lava SPRING.

The reason the portal did that was becuase the portal you just secured (witch orignaily came from candel cove) was not lit or active, so it looked for the nearest portal and boom found that one, just re-light the one in the nether that goes to candel cove and problem solved. The good news is most of this little quirks were mostly address with the older patch. Basicly when you said you were goign to die and try the portal I was like zeta re-active the portal fist lol

So. .. you can't build an underground tunnel between north shore and candle cove portals because. . . ?

because there's no convenient way up into the northshore bunker that doesn't have a giant drop to the land below, and also the potential to fall into a lake of lava further down

I think I figured it out. If you make a portal to hell and light it then enter, it spawns a like portal in hell. Those two portals are now linked and one will lead to the other. What you did was left the one in hell unlit, so the lit end of those 2 portals had to lit portal to send you back to, so it put you in your northshore portal. As soon as you re lit it from hell, it fixed the link between those 2 portals

You probably ended up at the North Shore portal because that was the nearest active portal.

I also noticed that the balls the gasts shoot will damage the gast if the ball hit it when deflected by punching the balls

if you enter the Nether thru any portal, you exit thru the first portal made in the Nether. You only exit the Nether thru different portals TO the normal world

The Candle Cove portal in the Nether wasn't lit, so that's probably why he ended up at the North Shore portal.
