Hey EA. Were not as dumb as you think we are. I got SC3 and every angle you have in the game is an airal shot. You can't look at your city from ground level like you showed in this promo. A lot of SC3000 trailer I see on YT show the same misconception. Spread the word YouTube viewers.

The problem was computers at the time still didn't have the power to render fully 3D environments and process other shit for gameplay. A fully 3D game was going to be disaster for Maxis, and it sure hell didn't look pretty.

As much as we all loath EA, EA did save Maxis during the late 90s by buying it off and restructuring the company early on. If that didn't happen, there's no telling what will happen to the SimCity series. EA's management of Maxis during the 2000s is a different matter.

@FoxShot01 it very well could be the actual game - just not the one that was released (originally it was going to look like those screenshots and u would be able to walk around in ur city and talk to ur sims, etc - but due to the limitations of yesterdays computers and the risk involved it was never made and they scrapped that SC3K and made the one u are familiar with.

EA was still great back in the 1990s. Their management style was still tolerable; even the Need for Speed series was still my favorite racing series, but then they started cashing in on crappy import culture. I got so sick of the series that I've skipped ProStreet and Undercover. Shift is good, but they still have a long, long way to go to win my heart again.

2000, 3000, and 4 are all 2D but make use of a 2/3 camera angle and pre-rendered building models which get shot from 4 different angles. It's also how The Sims 1 was done.

HOWEVER, in SimCity there are 3D elements like the cars, boats, and debris. Sims themselves are also 3D models.

I know that but if you look carefully at a lot of the buildings they are pixelated in a way that only occurs with 2D images also the sims, trees, street objects, and plants etc are super-imposed so yeah Simcity 4 is 3D but a lot of the features are 2D.

Dude this was before they switched it back to 2D because 3D was impractical at the time. Don't say the graphics suck if you don't know where this game is coming from. During this time the average computer only had 32-64MB of RAM, a Pentium 1 or 2, and a substandard graphics card.

This is video is not fake, but the whole 3D thing was cut for some reason, so therefore SimCity 3000 and onwards was in 2D Isometric (except Societies but I doesnt count that as a real SimCity.)
