I worked at Giant Eagle supermarket in 1999 as a kid, I was 19 years old and noticed a habanero in the pepper section. I never had one but I thought they looked pretty, so I snuck one into my hand and chewed it on the sales floor. BOOM. That shit was intense, not horrible but it made me feel alive!
I bought a mix of chilis for cooking today and this one was in it. I've never seen it before.
I cut a little peace off of the outer side to taste it and it wasn't hot at all and had almost no taste. Then I tried a bit of the inner stuff out of curiosity, the seeds. My tongue was burning like mad. Glad I had some milk. That helped. lol.
Thats the closest thing to a Red Savina Habanero which are a bastard to eat. Some Red Savinas had in the past hit a million and a half on the scoville scale.
see now that I'm a professional singer, I'm forbidden to do stuff like this ....I used to love eating hot chilli peppers, but my voice coach, producer, and even doctor all said not to have any spicy foods at all.
@runescapeownyawe earlier this year I came down with a very bad case of an upper respiratory infection, which turned into a bad case of Laryngitis and I had lost my voice completely for over a week. Once that went away and my voice came back (not yet healed though), I was scheduled for a vocal session in which I was unable to hit the high notes at all. Then about 3 weeks later, it came back worse and I lost my voice again. I went in to the hospital and the doctor said no spicy foods or soda.
@runescapeownyawe Considering I'm a professional recording artist who is recording an album, my voice is important to keep maintained. It's advised not to drink alcohol, soda or eat spicy foods. Mostly soda and the spicy stuff.
the contract I signed is 2 years for this album, so once the 2 years are up and the album is released, then maybe. At the moment, it's out of the question so we don't risk another vocal issue again.
Are these significantly hotter than the orange ones? I thought that they were but that might just have been the ones I had.
Also how do the chocolate habs rank among these? Because I've had red and orange ones before and want to try a chocolate one but don't want to be in for too much of a shock.
hi mate, just a bit hotter but it can depend on a few thingsm the chocs are Hotter by a fair bit geez pretty intense actually, but have a go its not not that bad :-)
Tonight I ate half red hab then a whole red Thai chili, like a super chili. My friend also ate them. We split the red hab down the center so we each got some seeds. I didn't eat or drink anyting but he downed 2 drinks and was spitting and rubbing ice on his tounge. He also drooped to his knees when it burned his throat. He thought I was crazy since it didn't faze me. I have a long way to go though to reach the status of you my friend. You are the true "King of Chilis".
Its almost time to start my garden..im growing habaneros..i hope i can get 1 plant of orange habs and 1 plant of red habs..or and ill make a video of me eating them
Excellent, they are fairly easy to grow, a lot say they like Full Sun, i prefer to grow them next to Wooden fences with some shade (dunno why, but they love wooden fences) and let me know when you do a Vid, bee cool to watch, plus feels good if ya actually grown them yourself..
I tried the Red Savina Habanero too. Took a video, but I'm not a chili professional, so it did burn kinda lot. I'm taking an assumption, that the chili I ate was something like 450 000+ SHU. It was good and red allright, no orange anywhere. But man... it is HOT.
yea, yellow Siam the bush grows to bout 3 foot, heaps on it 5-7 cm long they are fairly hot bout 7/10,, the Burkes Thai is a short/ stumpy Ornamental plant, they are Tear Shaped chilli's bout 5cm long a bit hotter than the Siam.. 8/10 (and Coles sell Red Habs now)
is it hot!?

Fuck that shit! Why? For me, chili peppers always seem to clear all the "grr grr" out of my voice and throat. Thumbs up for chili!

They can, actually. I believe it depends on the amount you ingest, though. Eating a long pepper probably won't do much.

What is the habanero flavour??? Is it good because i heard your friend say " it hasnt got that horrible hab flavour in my mouth"
hurro67 2 years ago
It's a fruity flavor, sometimes citris, sometimes strawberry like, sometimes smokey.
It's a very unique flavor, and the reason these peppers are so popular, it's not just the heat :)
Doom2pro 2 years ago
Some are have great flavors while others are terribly bland and just burn. That hab flavor is like a bitter green bell pepper.
