Ringo is a more versatile drummer than Pete but why knock Pete? He was a Beatle and he likes to play so more power to him. I have seen him live and I was standing very near to him and he was playing and not miming as some have suggested. Ringo also plays with another drummer but in his case he comes out in front of the band a lot to sing but the fact that Pete uses another drummer isn't really a knock as a bad drummer would throw the other drummer and the band off.
@kentaappel The other drummer is his brother. And yes you are right- Ringo has another drummer playing with him usually in the All Starr Band. What is really incredible is Pete Best's original music. I was shocked to hear a song on here called Gone from his album called Hayman's Green. It is fucking phenomenal and would shut some of the 'tarts mouths making fun of him pretty quickly.
Pete Best only raised his head once Lennon had died, he knew if he carried on talking about the Beatles then Lennon would have had him silenced.
Pete Best knew how to ride the gravy train there is no doubt about that, He talks fondly about his days with the Beatles otherwise he wont get an interview, he is a cunning and sly man.
Not to mention a hard drinker, tale teller and sloppy drummer, plenty of people support the underdog now but did not want to know when he was trying to make it in the60s
I don't necessarily feel the need to continue with the conversation.
I play the drums so naturally I am interested in other drummers. I am no special fan of Pete Best but I find some of the comments attacking his playing from people who clearly do not know what they are talking about to be annoying, but that is maybe par for the course on youtube.
But, every P.Best video I've seen on youtube seems to have negative comments from you on it. You seem to have an issue with him...
"...And i agree it is the stuff of legend and interesting to watch..."
Right, agreed, so why not just watch quietly, then?
Every single Pete Best video on youtube seems to have at least one ill spirit negative comment from you on it. It looks a lot like a vendetta. Pete Best knocked over your pint or something?
The facts are that he was a Beatle for 2 years & played nearly 1000 gigs with them (more than Ringo did). He has every right to talk about it and to play music.
It is obvious from the archive material out there of the Beatles with Pete Best playing that his drumming was competent and capable - but also very conventional and predictable. Ringo was nothing special in the earliest days, but he was more versatile and became a much more creative player.
Fact is, Pete Best played more Beatles gigs than Ringo - he was essential to the early success of the group. Replacing him might have been justified, but just when and how they did it was pretty shoddy...
@TheDiddlysquat He did lose out for the first 26 yrs. It's only AFTER the Anthology , which came as a total surprise to him , that he started making any REAL money from The Beatles. Maybe that was the remaining Beatles making up for the way they treated him......which is only fair. Since then it's true that he has been performing regularly AND using his ex-beatle status to promote himself & his band BUT so what?? He WAS a Beatle so he's not saying or doing anything dishonest or not genuine.
@TheDiddlysquat He didn't just know The Beatles.....HE WAS A BEATLE just like John , Paul , George and Ringo WERE all Beatles ie..past tense.... all these guys were at one time or another part of THE BEATLES. What makes it more interesting is the fact that he was sacked JUST BEFORE they made it big.......the stuff of legend.
@TheDiddlysquat - Pete is famous for a really bummer turn of events. But he's utterly famous nonetheless, and in an insignificant way, he can still make people smile with his talent and legacy.
THEDIDDLYSQUAT on the other hand, is a simple waste of good oxygen, contributing NOTHING to the earth except the mean-spirited, jealous diarrhea spewing from his ignorant mouth.
or he was replaced cause well he wasent that good lol.........hes average at best (no pun intended) they made the right move to boot him......history tells the tale...cant argue with facts.........ringo pwns best and thats that
Martin wanted to replace Best ON RECORD - not in the band, but he did that with almost every band. Life was so much easier if you hand a good experienced session drummer laying down a solid foundation for the others to follow. That doesn't mean he wanted Best out of the band - indeed in interviews he said it didn't matter so much live. Epstein clearly felt sorry for Best and tried to find him another band. I really don't think Epstein and Martin were the culprits.
actually, paul and george were the primary movers in ousting best, not lennon, true he went along , maybe under pressure, but if lennon didnt want you in the band, he would just tell you to your face and boot you out as he had done to others.
you know this thing of pete best it's very similar to megadetg and deva mustaine you know the guy with big balls who wasnt to take shit fromanibody or trying to be something that he is not gets fired for the same reasons that made him a great artist, i'm just sorry that pete didnt made a better group imediately he was fired
All popular bands are marketed heavily. It's a no brainer. The record companies want to make money as well as the band members. The Beatles became the Beatles only with Ringo. We can look up all this info in biographies. Stuart Sutcliff was also in the band-playing bass. When he left to pursue his art career Paul took over on the bass. Pete was not the only drummer either. They had a few temporaries. George Martin thought his drumming was for studio work not worthy. Ringo was a perfectionist-
Ringo is a different style of drummer than Pete, but Martin didn't like Ringo initially and used a session drummer Andy White on Love Me Do. I disagree about "Beatles only with Ringo," comment. Pete's style of drumming influenced Liverpool. From Litherland Ballroom gig 12/27/60 that started their rise to fame the Beatles at the dance halls, clubs, etc daily with Pete for 18 months. Chas Newby was the Bass before Paul. Pete performed for al but a few gigs, and had his own separate fan club.
Martin never heard of Ringo, and when he heard him he accepted the Beatles decision to record with him. And "love me do" was redone later with Ringo. True..Stu Sutcliff was bass player before Paul, BTW.Ringo sat in for Pete when he didn't show, even in Hamburg. the 3 wanted Ringo bc he was way better than Pete. Ringo didn't have to redo tracks either bc he was so good. His timing was perfect.
the beatles were a great band, but fact is, they were packaged and sold to the masses. it wasnt until the late 60s that they were being themselves. pete wouldnt sell out
Totally agree and IMO That's how Pete Best is a REAL musician - not someone that became a slave to it like the others.. (whoops I'm not going to be very popular for saying that!)
Whoever singers hail ftom LIVERPOOL...you are all loved by people around the world...altho not as much... I believe.. the BEATLES have gained for themselves (fame & wealth) much kinda sound the original FAB FOUR of which PETE BEST was the original drummer.
Thanks kindly for your GR8 comment!... And yes please do your "BEST" to make it next year... This was my first and it was so great to see all these performers and actually stand next to my heroes and have my pic taken with them... Mark Hudson, what a great guy! Victor Spinetti, warm and friendly... Pete Best is...well...the Best in taking care of his fans... You will never forget the experience!
I think that it would have made sense to move Pete's kit to the front of the stage, since it's his band, as in the 'Pete Best Band'
