The first one made me raise an eyebrow because it was quite a ... hopeless ending for EVERYTHING in that arch. But we didn't go out and flaunt that we laughed about it to anyone because A) We're not trying to "be scary" ... xD and B) There's no reason to, its an anime. It's not real, even if we did laugh it doesn't really count for much.

You know, this song also plays when Shion was stabbing poor Satoko to a torture cross or something and had Mion say I'm sorry a thousand time in the jail cell. Satoko's Torture scene part is probably the most disturbing scene in Higurashi. Like the first time I saw that scene, I hid behind behind a pillow and covered it on the computer monitor.

@itsunny there are A LOT of songs that play during the Satoko torture scene. And as for most disturbing, it's either that or the fingernail scene, the Satoko torture scene wins for plot, context and gore, while the fingernail scene has THAT FUCKING MUSIC.

Man, that scene had me in tears and pressing my balled fists to my chest in an attempt to shield my nails from the feeling of one of those men in the room to take the sack they put on her head and come after me.

@seblue9999 and let me tell you, a lot of the effect comes from the music. As far as the "no, no, NO, NOOO!" factor, "Oshin" is probably Kenji Kawai's greatest triumph in the soundtrack. It doesn't just FIT the fingernail scene, it IS that scene. (which is why using it for Satoko's breakdown in the anime-only arc in season 2 was an incredibly stupid idea and is the *only* moment where I can fault the musical choices, which are otherwise excellent.)

@belly8900 the VN is indeed more disturbing sometimes... it's just that I haven't read arc 5 yet.

Remember arc 2, with Shion calling over the phone, Keiichi poking holes in her confession and then Shion's evil laugh? In the VN, it's all in text, there's loud suspenseful music going on, and all silent moments were punctuated with either cicadas or crickets. And when she laughs, her laugh fills LINES of text at extreme speed, then the screen goes black and shows evil eyes. Then SILENCE.

@belly8900 the visual novels were not animated. Static background, then characters appear and disappear on the screen, with some animated changes in their poses and facial expressions. There's no voiced dialogue whatsoever, it's all in text. The drawings were somewhat poor, but the faces are awesomeness. :) And the music/sound usage was just great.

The text slowly scrolls at the top, and you press ENTER to read the next part of the text.

Does not sound awesome, but trust me it is.

@Operative13 first of all, the anime includes plenty of scares other than the gore... and second, you clearly haven't seen the original VN. I have seen two arcs of it (I can't get enough time to read the rest so far, but I want to do so) and DEEN has upped the gore too much, actually... I still think it's frightening even if you ignore the gore moments... more so in the VN.

And Watanagashi is still one of the scarier arcs, which is interesting, considering it doesn't show any gore on-screen.

@adeelkh1 the anime has various different violent endings all of which seem to have relation to the curse of the shrine god every different ending leaves you with more information to solve the mystery and figure out what is happening. even if you don't think about it the story is amazing and fulled with surprises. the anime however is gore and creepy. i'm not too good with explanations so i can't really tell you about it but it's very good

...wow here is a scary situation To be listening to this song in your dark room with the door closed and window open and no lights on except the laptop light and I turned my head towards the fan that just started skipping in the middle of the music.
