The problem with metal going mainstream is that it tends to lose most of its passion and reason for being awesome, because you suddenly don't have the artist being responsible for the product; you have the money and whom is behind the money being responsible. Obviously this is not the case ALWAYS, but it does happen a lot. Typically once a band goes mainstream, it is to increase their popularity and whatnot, usually at the loss of musical quality / uniqueness.
