  • Their own music or not, they could play and deliver a good show. That is the quality that today's music lacks no high standarts.

  • I LOVE THE MONKEES!!!

  • Awesome

  • @Beatlesonlyblog Heart and Soul will be a DVD bonus to a reissue of the guys 1987 album "Pool It" this fall throug Rhino.

  • At the time I thought this sucked, and were Beatle wannabees. Now I see it for the brilliant pop composition it is.

The marketing was aimed at kiddies though.

No self respecting Rolling Stones fan at the time wouldn't be seen dead with a Monkees record.

  • The Monkees took a lot of sid, but I always liked them.

If you take away the colour (Their TV show), the Monkees

are a continuation of the film "A Hard Days Night".

I read that in an interview with some Monkee, don´t

rekkemember which Ape it was. Jones,Dolenz, Nesmith

    or Tork.

  • Wether The Monkees played all their own instruments or not the fact is their songs can stand proud against anything The Beatles produced. To me 'Last Train to Clarksville' is possibly the most iconic song of the 60's. I was lucky enough to see the Monkees live (all 4 of them) several years ago in Manchester and thought they were fantastic.

  • Songs written by the top songwriters, backed by the top session musicians The Wrecking Crew, their music is terrific...and they seem like nice guys... goofy most of the time?...yes, but just relax and listen to the music...

  • Born in 1960! The Monkeeys were way better than the Beatles. Who has a great voice today Like Mickey or Mike? Or even Peter or davey? Those guys can sing. They cant make good music today at all anymore!

  • @celticwitan

Wait a minute ...you stated the "Monkeeys" were way better than the Beatles??? Surely, you jest!

  • happy B Day to Micky

  • Love these guys! Fantastic to see them!

  • Go, Mickey Go!!!

  • Added to favorites, yes yes

  • Daveys mullet is cracking me up

  • The Monkeeys rocked! I didnt like the Beatles at all. I was born in 1960. That started me on the music I listen to now. I listen to Metal, Hard Rosk, Ballads, New Country, Oldie of course..70's classics... some 80's classics. I mean The Monkees are my first love in music.

  • Mike got very shy of performing and not being taken seriously. He did a couple of tours but then went on to his own venture in promoting modern Country & Western music. He did a performance with them in London and had a wonderful time. But the next day newspaper critics shredded them and it hurt him so much he didn't perform with them again.

  • @mfgunter Poor Mike...

    He was my favorite D=

  • Didja know Last Train 2 Clarksville was about a guy going off to Vietnam ? ...'And I don't know if I'm ever coming home'

  • Hahahaha... always liked these guys.... even way back then when I was a "musical snob". Hahahaha. They had a string of pretty damn fine hits and did a good job of delivering!! Pretty confident on stage for "a studio concoction" don't ya think? Great post!! ~KK

  • Actually, Mike has openly admitted that he never felt that he was the only "true musician". Mike, Mickey, and Davy had all performed as musicians on stage and in bands and Peter was a studio musician.

Strange thing about Behind the Music and whatnot. You learn things without spreading insidious rumours.

  • Oh, cmon, if you were born tween1956 & 1966, give a hoot, we all dug the MKees, they are all accomplished musicians, let them play, i have seen their genius since 1966, Fuck you, if you don't love America's answer to the Beatles, then KMA-10-4 John Lennon & Paul McCartney said so, They partied with these dudes, so it's ok. Just see the boxed set, then you'll see for yourself-JW

  • @jarwick Yep, the first thing we watched, when we got home from school - EVERY DAY!!!

  • I saw the monkey's at the zoo. They were in between the gorillas and the chimpanzees

  • After watching several clips of the MONKEES and remembering the TV show, I just can't help smiling... I will probably still be smiling tomorrow when I wake up too! lol

  • i saw them in birmingham all 4 in 1997. it was great. did all their group and solo numbers...even songs from " head"

  • This a better audion in this concert! I almost got to see them at Lake Lanier island park in the late 90s.

  • Que grandes son. Nunca me cansare de escucharlos

  • Point taken. Still, not a fan of the other three touring as the Monkees without him. Get well soon, Pete!

  • No Mike, No good!

  • For the longest time he felt he was too good for them. He considered himself the only "true musician" of the bunch and had a rather snobbish attitude toward them. As of late he has relaxed those feelings somewhat and has done a couple of reunion gigs with them.

  • I don't know about snobbish but I think he felt like he didn't fit in. Mike comes from money, his mother invented liquid paper/white out in the 50's

  • Mike's mother was the INVENTOR of White Out which made millions of dollars which Mike INHERITED upon her death. He is loaded and DOES NOT need to tour.

  • Most people don't realize that this song was written as a protest song about a young man who gets drafted during the war in Vietnam and has to get on the train that will carry him to the Army base for basic training.

  • I know that

  • very good...

  • Not bad, but if you want to be real amazed check out this video on YouTube:

The Band - The Night They Drove Old Dix (Last Waltz Part 11)

    C.

  • Omg it's so amazing how mickey can sing while playing the drums. I can't -__- lol
