  • I bought the CD of this session ages ago. How great to actually see the recording now!

  • Carlos Vega is Master, lost but not forgotten

  • 6:01 - 6:45 hail carlos vega! continuity is awesome! \m/

  • This is some of the sickest performances I've heard these studio cats doing. Really great tune and amazing skills by everyone. Wish music was... well, more like this.

  • And again I wonder... how can this vid have less than a 5 star average rating? Is there really people giving this less than 5 stars!?

  • I just feels so happy whenever I hear this track!

  • this tune has been written by dave valentin and figure in "the hawk" his album just before the amazing"light struck"

  • this tune was not written by Dave Valentin

  • yes i agree and it's not from "the hawk"

    it's from "legends"

  • @fredbass77 Jungle Garden 1985

  • i have a video of this tune played by some grp stars (lee ritenour carlos vega(r.i.p) abraham laboriel and the fantastic larry williams on keys and tenor sax and of course the genius dave valentin)

  • lol

    this is it!

    i am just awake!

  • Dave Valentine is the best jazz flute player...

  • Sou suspeito para falar do GRP já tinha escutado o audio deste show mas nunca tinha visto o vídeo realmente é sensacional

  • What is this song called?

  • oasis

    you genius

    /sarcasm

  • but the group I thought was called oasis?

  • NO...the group is the Grp all-stars I think(correct me if im wrong) but the group is art of what used to be GRP records

  • this video reminds me of my beloved late father..he was a jazz lover and this piece was one of his favourites..love it so much! thanks a lot for posting this!!

  • I first saw Dave Valentin in 1985 at a Wilshire Blvd theater, Los Angeles and immediately fell in love with his performance energy, his amazing, unbeatable improvisational skills and the beautiful sharp tone of his Yamaha flute. Unfortunately, Daves unique style has changed dramatically since 2005. His once unmistakable flute tone is gone. His unique improvisational power seems now timid and predictable. I hope this change is due to personal choice and not because of a fading ability.

  • Could be because of the smooth jazz format, seems to have tamed most contemporary jazz artists.

  • I have to agree with Mauriceandangela, I feel like that is exactly what has happened to Dave's playing. You couldn't have said it better. I agree that he has some how changed his playing style and not for the better. He's some what timid and lacks luster in his improv. Sad!

  • this piece is AWSOME! the first time I heard this was when my brother got married back in 1982! This is well done....Perfection!

  • Carlos Vega :(

  • omg this video is the best woohooooooo jazz jaazzzzz it up

  • Yeah..that is like the best live video that I own. GRP live! It is a shame about Carlos. He was a great drummer and the it was the PERFECT combination of musicians on that stage! No doubt!

  • where's Liam??

  • LMAO

  • this video changed my musical perspective..carlos is a real inspiration. How they play is near to spiritual!

  • HAHA....! YEAH! LOVE THAT VIDEO!

  • dvd?! can you tell me where to find it?

  • I sent you the links to your tube mail...

GRP All-Stars: Live From the Record Plant [1985]

    amazon . com

I have the video on tape! (a copy from the Laser Disc) but I want a DVD.. MAN that Laser Disc sounds superb.... It blew me away the first time I saw it.

  • AMAZON . COM!

ALSO Oasis is my favorite song of them all!

  • You're best bet is to order it. Some time ago I tried to find the Christmas CD of GRP Live and had to order it on line. Forget about finding it in stores...or rather good luck. It's a classic!

  • i have goosebumps---LOVE IT!! ARGH!!!

  • Yeah. Carlos Vega was a really great drummer. Unfortunately he committed suicide in 1998.

  • Delicious...

  • WHO İS DRUMMER??

  • Carlos Vega

  • who wrote this tune? could someone please tell me?

  • mmm..Sorry, I think Dave Grusin wrote Oasis, but I'm not sure!, The credits doesn't say anything about that.. and I couldn't find the answer in google either.

  • I can inform you guys that this song is written by Bill O'Connell. Bill and Dave valentin did extensive touring together in the 80s. Oasis in one of Bill most requested songs, which is blatantly obvious! It's a great tune:-)

  • Many thankss for your info toroheld!

  • @vaineminaru Dave Valentin wrote it (the flute player)

  • My first youtube comment goes to rodrum and this magnificent video. These cats can play. I have always liked this recording, especially the talent of the late Carlos Vega. He really knew how to play just the right thing for the song. Soooo good! Again, thank You rodrum for putting this video up --- I didn't know it existed:-)
