There were thousands of tribes with many different kinds of organizational structures. Many chiefs took advantage of their position of power to give themselves more food, servants, nicer clothes, and better housing. Greed and lying/misleading to suit political agendas has been a reality of all facets of mankind.

The Native Americans and other indigenous tribe at one point would be close knit, everyone shared and did their part. Nothing is perfect, but they would use every resource and throw barely anything away, now we have trash dumps, ozone depletion, I can name a ton of stuff.
