  • See, this is when people could actually sing, and didn't need robotic affects from studios!! This is REAL talent!!!

  • I've grew up with music like this and I LOVE it!! I dont need a film to show me good music x)

  • I hate to say this but that was kind of shitty. Sh-Boom by The Chords is one of my favorite songs. And I mean very very favorites. I realize they were doing it acapella but it didn't sound good to me.

  • this song is made for Cars

  • this song is mad for Cars

  • I Everytime I hear this in Mafie II it makes me cruise slowly like they did in Cars.

  • Damn! They did this acapella?!?!?! And it actually turned out good. Good to see these guys still got it after 66 years!

  • @TheBoyzFromIllinoize this video is old, it was only posted recently... this was probably filmed in the 80's or before...

  • Sh Boom as far as I am concerned was the first Rock and Roll record. Is that the only hit the Chords had? No comparison to the crew cuts version.

  • huh I found it ;D

  • lost there shboom to fast and not..........good

  • i heard this froms cars and destroy all humans second

  • First R /B song that I heard. I still love it.

  • This song was also used on the film A Simplewish which is quite funny to me!! brilliant song though!! :-D

  • AMAZING STUFF!!

  • No disrespect to the Crew Cuts, but the Chords' version of the song is the original and is far superior to their version!

  • i get the feeling they were completely sick of singing this song lol

  • @nourbutwatmi thanks for that wikipedia.

  • From 1980. Sadly, all four of these fellows have passed on. Carl Feaster was a fantastic and underrated lead.

  • It was cross over music...in the late 50's record companies would have white groups record the black songs so that white kids could listen to it. It had nothing to do with us listening to black music because we didn't care but the record companies were under pressure from some parents who were afraid that the black music would somehow harm their kids. Luckily not all parents felt that way and by the sixties this way a thing of the past. Now if we could just get rid of "rap" crap music.

  • i like both versions!

  • Thumbs up if the reason you like this song is cause you heard it on Cars first.

  • @Lumberjack12321 Cars has some brilliant music in i, cant wait for the second one this year :B

  • @Lumberjack12321 i heard it on mafia 2 first :D

  • @Lumberjack12321 thumbs up if you heard this song on Road House years before some movie named "Cars" came out

  • RETARDS WITH RAYGUNS some horror doo wop subscribe

  • they did the original and best version.killer toon.

  • if you do what i want todo baby we'll be so fine oooooooooooo :)

  • I like this song it's catchy yep I saw it from da movie cars

  • These guys are better than the Crew Cuts who by the way did indeed copy this the Chords wrote this song look it up for yourself if you don't think so

  • FANTASTIC-SUPERB THE CHORDS ARE THE BEST.

good music/tunes for a good christmas time.

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

  • I was there in the fiftties and these jerks are not tho org. period done.

  • sounds like a bunch of drunks singing on the street that just came out of the bar

  • @iMacAddiction121 And because of that, it's just brilliant! :) It's borderline magical what 4 people can do with just their voices, hands, and feet.

  • @iMacAddiction121 ok w/e you say, shithead. enjoy

  • This was the original. It was re recorded by The Crew Cuts because they were white and could be played on radio at the time.

  • its good and all that the chords invented this song and they should earn all respect and such, but i still think the version of the crew cuts is better.

  • Anything they recorded is great!

  • 00:50 :)

  • hail the chords, the real writers of this song!... not those damn canadians, the crew cuts!

  • visit our own vrsion

  • ruffnekk: you must be kidding! The Crew Cuts were created for a non integrated south. The Chords were heard thoughout the rest of the country. The Crew Cuts sucked.

  • they're ok but not as good as the original.

  • @moondy11 These ARE the original!!! They had to fight for recognition and they deserve that respect.

  • Carl Feaster lead, Wesley Neal, Arthur Dix, Jimmy Keys (done in Boston around 1983-4) - 2 originals from the Bronx group

  • Carl Feaster lead, Wesley Neal, Arthur Dix, Jimmy Keys (done in Boston around 1983-4)

  • yup origanalitly damn these guys are the best , no voice overs no alterations, pure genius <3

  • This song is blowing my mind. I wish these guys had their own t.v. show where they go on adventures and sing songs.

  • @crazyat8 - On behalf of my family, we thank you for the compliment.

  • the Chords Queens NY...the original and best!!!

  • @hardsly - The Chords are from the Bronx.

  • I love this song, but I like the Crew Cuts version even better!

  • AMAZING

Black men have the best voices

    <3

  • I love this song. It's my favorite from the cars soundtrack :D

  • It's good seeing Jimmie he waited so many years.Did he ever get paid for his song?Teddy Shelton from the Spaniels.

  • @teddybare61 - Hi, Just to respond to your question, the answer is "yes". As you may know, he fought all his life for the recongition for this song and the group. My cousin and auntie now get the residule checks.

I miss my uncle Jimmy and so does the rest of the family.

    Thanks for asking.

  • Jimmy was a nice nice guy-sadly none of the originals are with us.They sound great here.Jimmy explains a bit about the lyrics on the bio done of Morrisania Groups.

  • Carl Feaster is my late uncle, he's my mother's brother, she is the on;y surviving sister of 15 children, she would love to have a copy of this. so would the whole family. WOW!!!!!

  • sounds ok but my fav was dion + the belmonts no question that was the a doo wop band and hes still playing and hes in the a hall of fame

  • Who cares who wrote it first, all you guys think you know everything when you look in up on wiki. Just listen to the music

  • OMG! They're out of tune for the first 30 seconds! After that, they sound perfect. Bad monitoring maybe?

  • If anyone knows anything about this time period, white singers and musicians were the mainstream. It was very typical for a white band such as The Crew Cuts to cover an African Amercian band's song and popularize it. For example, Pat Boone covered Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti". Some artists, such as Chuck Berry, broke into the mainstream though and preformed for white and African American audiences alike. The Chords wrote and sang "Sh-Boom" which is the original version in this video.

  • ok no offence the crew cuts version of this is WAYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! better these guys dont sing it well at all

  • To clear the record, I'm Jimmy Keys's oldest nephew. Uncle Jimmy, the actual writer, is to the far left. The song was written in 1954. For the person who has doubts, I'm not surprised.

My Uncle lived and died The Chords. We are grateful that other groups copy the song as it lives in his memory to us who love him so very much.

To My Favorite Uncle "Big Jim": RIP, I love You!!

    Your Nephew,

    Troy!

  • the crew cuts are awful

  • @nolangleason troooooooooooooooooooooooooolllllllllllll

  • If you compare the music, the harmony, the singing - and the Crew Cuts dreadful ya di di ya di di's to the Chords' version with its sax solo, there is no comparison. Blame it on all the oldies stations playing only #1's,and perpetuating the myth that there was no other music back then but what they play today. Really a sad story.

  • Jimmy Keyes wrote this song, and his group, The Chords, recorded it in 1954. It went to #5 on the R&B chart, and #2 on the Pop Chart. Then Atlantic Records, who published it, got the Crew Cuts to cover it, and their version went to #1. Atlantic made more money, but the poor Crew Cuts couldn't even keep their name, because there was a group out in California that had the name 'The Chords'.

  • Look at my grandfather singing this song!!!! Carl Fearter Sr. Way cool!!!!

  • Crew cuts version sucks, this one really kicks!!!

  • @Nikub1992 Nobody claims the song was written in 1980. The Crew Cuts did a pretty job covering it but they did not record the original version. Look it up before you get so cute.

  • This song is brilliant!

  • This is a fabulous song and the emblem of an era. It's wonderful to hear this song done accapella. That is what Do-wop was really all about.

  • This is the original song and James (Jimmy) Keyes is the writer. He is to your far left on the screen. Jimmy Keys is my uncle He had a big influence on my life.

As for the video, 2 of the orinal members are not there: Warren and Malcolm.

My uncle is from Henderson, Kentucky. Uncle Jimmy, aunt, wife and 3 children lived in the Bronx. He died in 1995. Just wanted to share with anyone who may have wanted to know a litte about the group and my Mr. James Keys, Sr.

  • @roxboronc27573 That's really neat! I enjoyed hearing that and your uncle was very talented and so were his friends. Wonderful song!

  • Considering that I know the family quite well - the song was written by James Keyes and The Chords were from the Bronx, Ny not Queens.

  • Bloody fantastic - geez I am jealous!

  • ChemChem 1234 THIS group...The Chords from Queens New York was the 1st group to record this song!!!!

  • ChemChem1234 the CHORDS from Queens New York were the 1st group to record this song

  • maybe he was a crew cuts fan, haha

  • WOW!!! This group completely MASSACRED this awesome song originally sung by "The Crew Cuts"!

  • I hope you're kiddding. The Chords wrote it and sang it first!

  • @cramorips These are The Chord, moron.

  • Hi there..

Not sure you were only joking in your comments 6t months ago, but THEY ARE' The Chords, Ya Pilack!

  • I hope you are kidding. The Chords not only sang it first but also wrote it!

  • The song was originally by the Chords, but this performance demonstrates why it took a great version by the Crew Cuts to make it a hit. These guys are singing it like they are are lat efo rsupper and trying to get through with it.

  • @ third... This is just an live Accapella version they did maybe in the 80´s. but theyr first release in the 50´s is much much more groovy then the CrewCuts-Version. The CrewCuts had a hit with it because of the social situation in that time: Black music was separated from the whites. That´s why it could be saled to a larger audience.

  • wow... You are the reason why people should have to pass an IQ test before reproducing.

  • @chemchem1234 - You can say what you wish. My family still gets the residual checks for the song.

  • I finally saw the movie "Cars" by Disney. It just floored me that "Sh-boom", by the CHORDS was on it's soundtrack!

  • damn its just perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great music never dies.

  • i am singing this song in Choir at South Jr. High in Boise Idaho

  • nice

  • I dont miss only the old time buy these guys!!

Those kind of music will NEVER die. Juan

  • @juan58102 i agree. i wasn't born in the 50s or remember the 80s but got my radio alarm set on the station that plays these classic oldies!

this kinda music will live forever!

  • I was born in '80 and love this stuff. 50's on 5 is worth paying for Serius radio to me. All the oldies stions here play no-stop Motown (I'm in Detroit). I love that stuff, but there's alot more from the 50's and 60's than Motown.

  • yeah, they don't make music like they used to. now it's all autotune and you can't hear the singer's voice. it's so cleaned up.

  • wow this is very good it makes me smile lol i love it and im young lol

  • PERFECT ! ! !

  • I love it. You needn't even instruments to create an awesome song such as this.

  • excelente!!!

  • awesome, FAVORITE!

  • music just isnt what it use to be! why the heck did i have to be born after all the GOOD music came out. :(

  • I completely agree :-(

  • this is so nice!!!

    just nice!!!

  • Music, isn't what it used to be. Wonderful to watch this.

  • man your right :) i miss those days.....

  • Are they still with us???? DZ from the Bean

  • They are the originals and the harmonies sound great. Too bad they didn't have the music accompaniment especially for the bridge.

    I loved it anyway.

  • I second your love for it. They are fucking awesome in this!

  • I love thiis Song! is Amaziing!!! from: Vzla!

  • They're a little out of tune at first, but they get into it pretty quickly. They are the original version, and I'm sad because the video with their best recording of it got taken down. ):

This version is still fairly good, though.

  • @Riteilu Im uploading the song from Disney Pixar's Cars soundtrack in HD. That should be fairly good.

  • The Doo-Wop!!! Lov'n this...

  • Orliflower, these fine men (The Chords) were the ones who wrote the song, in 1954.

You can check the BMI website if you don't believe me.

    BMI Work #1316232

Perhaps you are thinking of the Crew Cuts?

  • i love this song!

  • Your Grandpa wrote the song? Kool. But I guess he used a stage name for the credits, as noone named Dude Dead Ass is listed as the writer of Sh,Boom.

  • The guy on the far left looks like Norm from The Wire

  • I love the wire.

  • These are the guys that wrote the song! This is the ORiGINAL group that recorded the song1

  • lawl love how people actually uprate this....

when this song was written down, dear mrexhil2009, the chords where still babies =)

    stil nice song tho

  • This is awesome =D.

  • Ahhh Baby this is where it all started

  • Sounds way better after they added the instrumental aspect.

  • Wow, rough start but they fixed it. Love this song.

  • Great song :) Don't someone have any of their albums?

  • amazing singing talents

  • the ORIGINAL sh-boom. not the crew cuts 8-)!

  • dit is pas echt master!

  • enfin j'ai retrouver cette version!

    genial

  • Comment removed

  • i think the music would of helped them with the lyric thing i just thing it would of sounded better with the music playing i mean what the fuck

it sounded bad but i love them anyway

  • Guys the song is from 1949 theyre performing it in 1980, 32 years after they recorded it. They missed a few notes but it's their song! 32 years, I say they sound good!

  • Actually 1954 I think =)

  • so very true, and it is ashame they actually did not recieve the credit for the, but some other band steals it and gets all the credit

  • So is there a video of them singing this song when they first invented it?

  • omg. they must have changed keys 14 times. they weren't even in a key at the beginning.

  • Hey you must be on crack or something. THESE guys are The Chords, and therefore this is their song. The Crew Cuts weren't the original ones to sing this first. The Crew Cuts' version is the "white" cover of this song, but these guys are THE ORIGINALS. So get your facts right before you talk.

  • If you think these guys suck, then I guess you're the one in the AIDS infected boat. If you don't like this, then I guess you should go and listen to The Jonas Brothers or some shit cause you really don't have a taste in music. And I think you're exaggerating by saying everyone prefers the white version over this one. Take a good look at the crowd's reaction to The Chords' performance on Rock, Rhythm & Doo Wop and come back and tell me everyone thinks they suck.

  • im sorry....but please kill yourself i lie this version much better and you are restarded

  • restarded?

  • yup its called a typo=] ever herd of them?

  • herd...like...cattle?

    i'm sorry i can't help myself.

but no for real. they are out of key. it's not a matter of opinion, it's a musical fact. all performers have their rough days i guess...

  • hahaha awesome for catching their typos. yeah im grammatically incorrect but eh.

  • oh why.. because they mostly know the cover version from the ad probably

  • @jahara: don`t let your bullshit down here, THE CHORDS ARE INCREDIBLE !

  • Actually, the Chords recorded this first.

  • BASS OWNS

  • YES. The beginning was terrible. Tailed off in the middle, and, well, the less said about the end, the better. Otherwise, great!

  • Doesn't anyone notice that they started in two different keys? This is a horrible performance of a great song.

  • true!

  • This song is a dream! Thanks for the post.

  • I adore this song!! It's so catchy^.^

    ~Salma

  • i CAN see people being into this for eternity.

  • Sure, anyone can be into disco forever too. As long as you believe your right, that's all that matters.

  • They're into it.

  • It was 50's, plus this is was a relatively new musical genre and people were really getting into it. I don't particularly see how people can be into modern "music" myself, but as long as you believe you're right, that's all that matters.

  • Hey are you kinda mocking me?

  • I'm young but I really appreciate this music.. thanks my friend for upload this song

  • HELL YEAH!!! :):) The Chords!

  • hey Emile

    Love the live stuff

    Keep it up

    Just great 5 starr stuff
