Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed the lip sync. I have the album version stuck in my brain, and that was the same version played on stage. With all that bouncing around, there is no way they could make it that perfect. Love the song regardless.
Oh, it is so incredibly shallow to say, but: Best hair in rock, hands down! This was the Tommy that my little 13 year old heart lusted after in 1978! (hee hee)
Lights was remixed and re-released in Canada and they played that version in a number of cities because it was slightly different from the album original.
Jesus, Tommy Shaw is so incredibly pretty for a dude, even I would make out with him a little, and I'm a STRAIGHT guy! Okay, all you tough-guy, man's-man, take-charge guy, jock, homophobes... now's your big chance to condemn my kind of thinking! Have fun.
i wouldn't be too surprised hehehe. you should've seen him in the damn yankees era when he had his teeth straightened and was lookin the most buff. ;)
i also have to say that tommy has an exceptional aura in this video. there's a different light on his face, and his hair looked extraordinarily great on this one. gotta love that white costume too! ;)
You know, your logic has been so amazing in this discussion, I just HAVE to believe whatever you say. You said Tommy's a pretentious asshole, so he MUST be. Thanks for opening my mind.
I don't agree with that comment. It's not "true" because you say so, it's merely your opinion. Just because they were popular songs doesn't mean they weren't good. Some real classics came out of those men. And yes, JY did write and sing some good and classic songs as well. Give credit where credit is due.
My first sentence was towards "oldhotstud", because they said "tommy shaw sings this song idiot like almost all the good styx songs". With the first sentence, I went from PURE opinion (akin to what oldhotstud said), to something that can possibly be proven.
I never said the popular songs weren't "good," and I never said only the popular songs were "good."
My last sentence was an attempt to summarize the point I was trying to get across, which was "good styx songs" was opinion and therefore could be different for every person. "Popular songs" is something by which we can more commonly compare since it is based around album and single sales.
It's quite possible I misinterpreted your comment, and I apologize if I did.
Sorry if I misunderstood, but your first sentences wording indicated that TS and DDY songs were popular and JY's songs were good. Meaning, in my eyes, you were saying TS & DDY songs weren't good just popluar. Again, sorry if I misunderstood your comment. I believe there is not a bad song in the bunch, popular or otherwise. Styx rules (in my opinion)!!
No, not mean at all! Have you ever seen some of the ridiculous mean spirited posts on youtube. It's refreshing to comment with someone who has the class not to name call or use foul language. I agree about Styx, but sometimes you have to take what you get lol! And they still sound good in my opinion, I'd rather have them as is, rather than not at all. And Gowan singing DDY songs sounds odd, but what can you do?
I saw them live in Cincinnati on the 27th, and I'll admit, it wasn't that bad. I guess I just prefer DDY out of nostalgia. I was also glad the Chuck was able to show up at that concert.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I have to disagree. I've been a STYX fan from just about the beginning and I've seen them in concert many times, with and without DDY and also with and without TS. I've loved every encarnation of this band. I'll always miss John and greatly missed Chuck's appearence at White River last month.
But STYX is still STYX. They're still as great now as they ever were. I love them all including Lawrence, Ricky and Todd!
I totally agree. Styx is still great. I just saw them this weekend in Wisconsin Dells and the performance was great. True its not like when they were in their prime, but nonetheless amazing. Their current lineup is still very talented and full of energy and fire and damn do they put on a great show. Long live STYX!!!
you are correct in my opinion i like the tommy shaw songs and also i think your are right about another thing is it aint styx without everyone of them it is like a basketball team TEAM being the keyword just like the beatles you take one away and it is not the beatles anymore same with styx take one away and the harmonys are just not the same anymore
I love this song. Great opener on Cornerstone. Like Queen's Play the Game or Rush's Tom Sawyer. Styx is a fantastic live band too! Dennis has such a strong voice.
Oh, man. This is a great band. Sometimes they lip synch because it's required by the TV station. If you know STYX then you know they (in all their versions)sound great live. Few other bands can even compare to them.
I saw The Grand Illusion Tour in 1977?-78. At the CNE Grandstand. They placed Blue Collar man for the first time near the end, but the Album wasn't released yet.
lol obviously DoctorAxe is trolling...

tommy shaw sings this song idiot like almost all the good styx songs and dennis wishes he sang this song
oldhotstud 4 years ago
JY sings the majority of the good songs, Tommy and Dennis sang the majority of the popular songs.
And yes, I did go from opinion, then to a statement based on sales and such.
My point being, saying "good songs" is not a good choice. That's why I used "popular songs" (which makes it true).
robertsim007 4 years ago

I'm also sorry if I came off as "mean" in either post. I was just trying to explain myself.

Always nice to meet another Styx fan.
