and for your information, accelerometers are used to measure acceleration. like this particular one which is meant to be used to measure the acceleration of a roller coaster, someone running, or even driving around a curve.
nosplen this is not an accelerometer... accelerometers are made to be used in applications such as aviation, vibration feed back sensors, tilt measurements, or even max acceleration achieaved in some applications. your design cant be used in any of these applications. plus u cant have reading if the acceleration is instantenous and not a continous insident plus the accuracy is almost below 2%. thank you nosplen. try harder. Good luck.
Very nice accelerometer but i saw several flaws. One is what if you are measuring less than 1 g? it would be nearly impossible to measure it using assumptions. And another, if the weight gets too heavy, it would cause it to sag down on the tube creating friction and therefore messing up your hard work. Thats all and i hope you take these into consideration.
i know a better way of making one. . . we made one today in science. First fill a 2 liter bottle with water. then tie a string around a weight that can fit into the bottle, then hot glue the string with the rock to the cap so that it is hanging,
then screw the cap on to the bottle of water and make sure it is tight.... the weight or rock should be hanging by the string in the water, about half way down. Then,
try different things with it like throwing it in the air, spinning it in a circle, dropping it, and see how the rock moves or if it moves at all.....(dun dun DUN!) HAVE FUN =]
Would this work to measure the acceleration of a bus while on it?

hahaha I use HEAVY DUTY NUTS tOO! ;))

Do you think this would be effective for measureing the g-forces on a roller coaster.

hi..
I d like to know the meaning of the unit of sensitivity of an accelerometer.. (eg: ± 2.5g)
pl help me out..!! thanks
jjjjshivajjjj 1 year ago
It means the smallest number of gs the accelerometer can sense - eg 0.3g. Anything less than that and it wont react to the acceleration.

Would this be an accurate way to measure the g forces of a roller coaster for a science project?

use a plastic pipe or something similar if you are worried about the fragility due to the paper tube
I think nospleen has done a great job - I am gonna do it my 7 year old kid.

Why did I watch the whole thing? Interesting, be cooler if you could find a way to make it stay after the force has been applied.
