  • The video suggests a smaller number of musicians than 50, perhaps even less than 40, and that comes closer to the performace practice in Bach's time. Estimations for the number of singers in the choir when Bach himself performed the St. John Passion range from 8 to 16 (Suzuki has only few more than 16), and Bach's orchestra probably had about 20 musicians when performing this music. Suzuki's performance is fine, but the video clip is very incomplete.
