It's a shame, because it could have been an AWESOME cover, really. If they could do it in the studio, and give it the right arrangments and stuff, it could be a KILLER cover. I'm a REALLY BIG fan of Metallica. Not like some posers here, I support them in EVERY-FUCKING-ALBUM they made, and listen to them with a smile on my face. I'm not a BIG fan of Garbage, I listened a couple of songs, and one of them is this one. And I have to say, it's my favourite Garbage song. With that said, I really didn't like this version that much. The original Garbage song has too much arrangments and back vocal in it, wich is lost in this version... (Continue in next comment)

Well I couldn't held noticing that almost everybody who posted likes metallica and hates garbage, so I think that you shouldn't judge by saying that this version is better than the original one, because the original one is not your stile of songs, and garbage and metallica are total oposites, I love both of them because I grew up with both bands as my background, but garbage version is much better

Don't want to argue either, but again, those who say James having stronger emotion is automatically making this better than the original is not GETTING the song. This isn't a sad, sad song. It's the irony in "riding high upon a deep depression". James removed that jangle-pop-ish allure of the original, and thus removed a piece of its core.

Some singer-songwriters have such depth and personality that if you don't GET it, you don't. And Shirley is one of them.
