I love this song so much. Not only for the wonderful childhood memory it invokes, but for the imagery of travel and making friends along the way of life. :-)
I am 64 years old. I had to sing this song also back in 1953, 1954....when I got into Junior High School we no longer had to sing it. It's a part of growing up. Everyone has to sing Erie Canal. If you don't sing it, then you can't grow up to be 64 years old like me. Ha! Just kidding.
@johnny102marvin When I'm 64 i'll think i will have made an accomplishment in my life. Although I have never sung Erie Canal at all. I'm in Junior High School and I'm in band and we play Erie Canal though! Haha. :D
