@madfortrad5958 any chance you can upload any more tracks from the fureys spanish cloak album please mate? the one that goes "bogey had a daughter her name was isabel" or the one about the gipsies.
Best version ever, most authentic, great Irish tune, great Irish voice, ignore the Yanks, what great ballad did they ever produce....um.....still thinking.
Your right. It is a matter of taste. If you want to PM me your email address, I will send you at least 15 versions that are better than this. This is a peaceful song about a peaceful place and a peaceful time. It should not be sung as forcefully as it is here. As I said, even the Fureys themselves did a better version.
dis version is brilliant but if ya listen to the damian mcginty version its brilliant and damian mcgintys version has been used in the tourist attraction videos ya shud chek it out
Go raibh math agat!!! This is the most wonderfull version that I heared of this song - while I listen to it if I close my eyes I can see the wide landscapes of the beautiful green Eiré altough I've never been there.Where the peaks meet the sky and the Lochs meet the sea...Oh you beautifull Eire!
If you hear Mick Hipkiss from Drowsy Maggie sing this song no one else compares. The Station pub in Selly Oak, Sundays in the early 80s. I was there most weeks and no one can take those memories away. My father is a Dub but I must say the Fureys murder the song.
i grew up listening to my dad singing this in pubs as i was a kid, hated it at the time but everyone loved him, i cant explain how much this song means to me. quality,.
Lovely whistle playing , what music and singing .

I could not care less who is singing.Couldn't give a big wet Sunday if the singer has nae Scottish accent.
All I know is this is real traditional music.
It is a young kid singing his heart out ,while his older brother plays second fiddle!.

spot on, great low whistle

this one is only ok, but I personally like Damien mcginty's version MUCH better, hense the name.

He does it great for a young kid, but I like the low whislte on the Fureys one as it so reminds me of Ireland.

Damian McGinty is brillaint and since his voice grew up, and now is even more than amazing, I'm waiting for him to re-record this song;
THE FUREYS' version is closer to original tune and despite it's different to McGinty's it's fabby :-); thanks for sharing

A lot of our Civil War ballads are beautiful, but of course you didn't really want to know about American ballads. You just wanted to be offensive.

Not to be disagreeable, but I seriously doubt you've heard them all. Though It's a matter of taste, Ive heard many versions better than this.
I have a different version by The Fureys themselves that is better than this.
I like to hear all versions. Thanks Madfortrad for the video.
