  • @dinnerandashow

So you know where it comes from, in the case you like what you see in the video.

And you go to your local Army surplus

and say something like, [ I wanna mess kit like the one in that video I saw on YouTube!]

Now you can say [ I am looking for a US.GI. Or a Swedish mess kit ] that is why...

  • cant you cook bacon or something with the stove .maybe put a mess tin on top instead of the cup thing:)

  • nice tarp shelter.

  • Why does the cooking gears have nationalities?

  • How do you pack up your ponchos? Is it bad to stuff them extremely tight in a small stuffsack?

  • Good Video, I only have a couple of comments. I didn't see you check for "Widdow Makers" before you set up your shelter under that tree, or tumbeling degris uphill. Secondly, using your stove uphill and on that rock you can run the risk of the wind or clumsey acccident that would knock the burning stove into your hooch. you're shelter was on the down hill side. You are going to be in for a cold night if you burn your shelter up. Good video. Thanks

  • Nicely done.

    * Bad case scenario; dig a small catch pool, drop wall or flat'ish rock, and drain/ovrflow culvert off and out to the side.

** Can use pole(s) and hood as top vent so you could have had soup in your shelter, still been dry, warm and breath. Sloppy-V with small part of v in hood. Draw strings open or close hood for more/less venting.

*** I like to clear my area prior to laydown or setup. Don't wanna shelter over snake hole, mouse den, etc. Brush the area back B4 I leave.

  • you're cheating with that stove by using gel fuel. I've been using mine for years now. It's black from smoke. I always use a handful of twigs. Just a handful of whatever twigs are laying around will easily boil a cup of water. If it's wet out, use the inner bark of cedar or juniper trees or something.

  • @leakyspacesuit hey ive heard about risk of melting or deforming the aluminum, i just got one for my solid fuel needs and i cant wait to see its work ethic, anything to focus on maintaining my unit in its condition? or do i just have to be careful for the first dozen times until it gets heat conditioned with the carbon? thanks!

    doc

  • Great job! Nice vid

  • where did you get that "double poncho tent?"

  • I'm just curious, how far were you from civilization when you shot this vid?

  • I assume creppy crawlies don't bother you? I couldn't use a poncho, I have to use my one man tunnel tent so I can sleep safe knowing nothing is gonna crawl up my legs etc!

  • Pretty cool, 'cept I'd have to have weed to hang out alone in the woods.

  • Speaking of Boulion. I recently got some Soups from the asian area at Hannaford or shaws and I got a Three pack of seeweed soup. Its just add hot water (packet full of Boullion stuff and some seeweed stuff. Its GOOD! and has just a little bit of stuff in it Try it out would be perfect little thing to enjoy out there

  • Hey guys you can use a beer can stove in it and/or a small commercial alcohol burner and burn any alcohol fuel in it. Isopropyl 70% leaves a black carbon on the cup and does not burn as good as HEET or denatured from the hardware store. I prefer the denatured. I am a 52 year old grandma. I love this stove. Works great use it when the power goes out here in the boonies.

  • Where do you hike?

  • double poncho tent? is it made of two ponchos? or is it sold that way to double its coverage because i dont see another hood on the right side.

  • What brand poncho are you using, it seems as if yours is a much larger surface area than mine

  • NH FTW!!

  • Nice video! The hardest decision in the wilderness: Am i gona find a better spot for my shelter if i keep going for a couple of hundred yards.. :)

  • I see that you've snapped two ponchos together for the tent. Do you get leaks through the connection between the two halfs

  • im in love with those stoves. i bought one not to long back. they dont take long at all to boil water. or cook over for that matter.

  • Hey see you all alone on this one, I been hiking solo for a few years, because My old hiking buddy when into the army.I see mountain what state are u in,They should make a hikeafriendfinder site.

  • @Vansvideoreviews Well on our forums we started a meet and greet by state. Visit our channel to find the website if you don't know it yet

  • @Vansvideoreviews how do you know your hiker buddy doesnt just murder u in the middle of the woods

  • [eesh! @ 0:20] [ suspicious rock @ 1:28] [learned about pyropack @ 4:53]

    :-)

  • LOL its a little tight but thats what i look for lol same here!

  • good video.

  • @assym2006 70% usually smokes a lot. 95% is better

  • Those mil gel fuel packs are awesome!

  • rock on dude! good to see you out there practicing

  • I coped out the hole in my swiss volcano stove to accept a trangia spirit burner, and I use a leatherman tool to place the cap on it to put it out.

  • Wonder how Weber grill fire starter cubes would do in this. About $4- for a 24 pack at home depot, burns about 5 mins., basically like wetfire.

  • Can you just put a tablespoon of sterno in that thing for fuel?

Maybe make a little aluminum cup to hold it or use the metal cap from something?

  • @fastacker2 I don't see why not, try it out and let us know how it goes! You can do a video response.

  • Im have to do that sometime.....just me and some peace and quiet.

  • Very nice set up. Looks like that stove is a winner. I've seen it demoed on other vids and it looks like a quality piece of gear. Nice place to camp.

  • Not sure if you knew, but the super thin aluminum volcano bottles are supposed to use wood and stuff to heat up the water.

  • Not sure if you knew, but the super thin aluminum volcano bottles are supposed to use woor and stuff to heat up the water.

  • thanks for sharing

  • Hammock camping = no flat ground required :-)

  • looks like so much fun. great vid. I have the same stove and found your basic esbit cubes to work well too. I have seen a really cool ModGear water bottle pouch, i've heard hold this swiss stove perfect with a side pouch for fuel and foon. I saw this in cheaperthandirtdotcom but was wondering if any of you have this and if it does fir the stove. cheers from ca.

  • where can I get those ponchos? and how much?

  • haha, looks like allot of fun hiking and stuff. that was a sweet volcano stove. iv never seen one of those before

  • where can i get a poncho like yours? also can you use wood in your swiss stove as a fire source?

  • I like the gel.

  • the poncho system that you use is just amazing. do you have the set up for sale on your website?

  • @outdoorguy1215 No, not yet. Though after a few more versions, and if there is enough demand, I would be happy to make them to sell.

  • Good to see another video from you. Keep it up buddy. Those stove bottles are $20 for 2 on sportsman guide. Made from Aluminum but still good in a pinch.

  • Very good. I do like your ideas for setting up your poncho.

  • I found 6oz pyro packs for $25.00 each. That seems like an awful lot of money for 6oz?

Does it list the percentage of alcohol in it?

I'm kinda thinking that hand sanitizer would be the way to go. They list 62% alcohol content and is much more cost effective.

    What do you think?

  • @MrBillTroop73 I don't know where you are looking for them, but I think on eBay you can find them for much cheaper.

  • @survivethewild I just clicked on the first thing that came up on google. Nice to know they are cheaper!

  • @MrBillTroop73 Hand sanitizer doesn't hold a flame. I tried that years ago.

  • @PUMACABRA as long as it contained 62% alcohol, I never had a problem bringing water to a boil, it just took more of it than pure alcohol.

  • @MrBillTroop73 HHhhmm?? Maybe it's my altitude (8500), but I can't even get that stuff to light, let alone hold a flame!

  • @PUMACABRA The highest altitude I've used 62% alcohol based hand sanitizer was 1 mile up, and it boiled water just fine.

  • @MrBillTroop73 it works in a pinch but the soapy additives ruin it, try to find "unscented"

  • Great video! Thats a good shelter, and a verry good swiss stove. I did not know that they work with the feul gel, thanks for the tip!

  • @bearpatch1 Ya, sorry. The video messed up before and I was trying to get the one with the best quality up. Thk u

  • So whats your opinion on pyropac fuel gel?

Love the videos. Keep 'em coming!

  • @johncajunmanbrown Inconclusive so far. I'm going to do some tests under different conditions and let everybody know what I think then. Stay tuned :)
