Please understand that they were doing renovations on St. Barts, isn't it possible that he had Molly rigg the scaffolding in order to slow his descent slightly. That coupled with a drug to induce paralysis &/or muscle relaxation could've assured that the fall didn't kill him. The rubber ball probably stopped John from feeling his pulse(because I really wanna use the rubber ball theory)
HE THROW HIS PHONE!! you know he texts everyone maby he texts NOW on is phone to tell the ppl below and puts it down so ppl wont see the text saying NOW in his phone and know its a fake. like the thery on the ball!
dont think its the dummy, surely Moriarty would have spotted a large Sherlock lookalike dummy sitting in the corner of the roof during the conversation. I think it probably had something to do with the big truck full of rubish and the little ball he was playing with.
You're missing the phone. Sherlock has the phone the entire time on the roof, but he also hides it. He also does something very out of character which is asking Moriarty to explain his plan even tho he already knew Moriarty's plan. So, he basically pretended to not know what was going on so he could record Moriarty saying the plan. after all. "This is my note." He was talking about the phone. There's no point of Sherlock surviving if he can't prove Moriarty wrong.
The hanging dummy has nothing to do with it. There are plenty of videos out there that describe how Sherlock did it. Watch them. But remember, there is already someone or something that looks exactly like Sherlock --how else would Moriarty have gotten the kidnapped girl to be so afraid of Sherlock? Clearly Moriarty made a prosthetic or something that looks exactly like Sherlock. Sherlock could have used this to fake his own death.
@TheSherlockhound ugh, i've spent the last two hours recreating a giant face palm emoticon to compromise. but its over 1,000 characters too big for the comments box. here's a simple one to show u how i feel about this. ;,(
omg I noticed that make believe thing as well but i gave up on it because i couldn't work out what it had to do with anything.
One thing I noticed though was this:
When Sherlock is on the roof with Moriarty, he sings the words 'I've got you.'
Then I worked out: 'I' is the first letter of I've, 'O' is the second letter of got, 'U' is the third letter of you. IOU - 123. Probably not relevant but there you go :D
There was also a truck in front of him at first. But when John got up it was gone. And a lot of people were stopping John from getting too close to Sherlock, even though he at first told them he was a Doctor.
I can't wait to see the explanation when the series comes back. Its a brilliant show.
I think you are right about the ball, the fairy tale because he was telling John he used a magic trick when he first met him. What I think he was tellng him was that it was all an illusion. I think he jumped, was caught whilst John was being knocked down by the cyclist and quick got onto the pavement.
Maybe we aren't missing ANYTHING, and that Moffat is tryna throw us off the trail?

There really is nothing more elusive than an obvious fact (AKA we're REALLY struggling with this)

I love the things you point out, but for me it fails in one point. There is no dead body falling.
But it is fantastic that this "you miss something" drives you as mad :-)
And great that you noticed the ball
It frustrated me that John checked at the wrist at all. Why did he not go for the neck, as he should? BUt then...the concussion
