@clipsvh Episodes 1 and 2 are extensions of HL2. Half Life 3 would be perfect for a concluding title since the last left a a pretty big cliffhanger.

@onexero1 yes, but, titularly speaking, that would be synonymous with using what should be a title that starts it's own chapter (the way HL2 did) to finish what HL2 started, and even then, it'd only work if HL3 would take place in the same place as Half-Life 2, otherwise, if you wanted to drastically change the setting again, you'd have to make the next game HL4.

@clipsvh I would feel comfortable if the game was Half Life 3 if it was not set in City 17, Which I am sure it will not be given the ending, and that the engine has had a serious overhaul, which Portal 2 has shown quite well. Either way I just want my Half Life 3 or Episode 3 or whatever they want to call it. Gordon s Quest. I cannot wait!

@clipsvh Half-Life2 did take place at City17,thats why episode 1 and 2 all took place in city17,or had to do with city17,halflife1 took place in black mesa,since it had no storyline in the second one.,if there will be a episode3,then it will take place in city17since it still part of the2,my guess for Half-Life3,is it will take place with portal,black mesa is mentioned more than once in portal,and Dr.Collete Green,Dr.Gina Cross,or Corporal Michael Sheperd will return.

@TheSonic497 Episode 2 is labeled as "Half-Life 2" and takes place in white forest, which is far outside of City 17 (aka: that one big crater) also HL1's plot did effect HL2's plot, HL1 is the cause HL2 is the effect. According to both Portal and HL2:E2 Aperture and Black Mesa were competitors, Green and Cross died, and you mean Adrian Shepard, who can't be ruled out.

@TheSonic497 also if theories I've seen about Portal are correct, Portal one takes place sometime between HL1 and HL2 (glados hints at that) and as for Portal 2; probably happens sometime after HL2 (and the other games labeled "Half-Life 2")

@onexero1 also keep in mind that the episodes are, as you said, extensions of HL2, it just seems to me that finishing a game called "Half-Life 2" with a game called "Half-Life 3" seems like a pretty cheap way for Valve to finally put the number 3 in one of their titles.

@mattiasmoller that is a misconception. the first FPS with a 3D environment was DOOM then from that came quake, and modded from quake was HL and modded further from that was HL2. so the order in evolution goes:

Duck Hunt > Doom > Every FPS today

Duck Hunt > ID Tech > Quakeworld > GoldSource > Source > Orange(box)Source [last time I checked this was the family of the hl engine]

in short Valve built their business on modders, as they still do to this day...

When I was younger, my brother always used to play Half - Life. I always thought it was pretty damn scary, thanks to the Zombies. And this theme made them terrifying.

Looking back, I would still say it's scary, but meh. It was a great game. XD
