The shift in policy took place with out any major problems, gays are now openly welcomed and accepted in our armed forces and there are strict rules about discrimination.

Out of the 26 members of the NATO alliance the USA and Turkey (vastly muslim) are the only two that still ban gays in the military. It may seem like a big step for some, but people get over it.

Today our military even recruits at gay pride, cant get more open than that :)

Great comments. while i support the democrats on most issues i disagree with their stance on the Iraq war today and the surge. However the responses by the republican leadership contenders are disappointing and the response by some of the crowd was truely disgusting.

Im British and a few years ago our military changed its policy on gays in the armed forces (finally) despite warnings from some it would cause lots of problems..
